Join me on my watch repair journey!
Welcome to Weekend Watch Repair. My name is Adam and I'm a passionate hobbyist watchmaker who loves nothing more than tinkering with timepieces and bringing them back to life.
On this channel, I try to create videos that cover everything from simple watch maintenance tips to more complex repairs and restorations. I'll try to provide you with valuable insights and helpful information that will enhance your appreciation for these intricate and timeless machines.
My goal is to provide a comprehensive understanding of how watches work, and share with you step by step how I repair and service these timepieces. I'll show you the tools and techniques that I use, and I'll try and capture some of the things that don't often get shown on some other videos. My hope is that you gain some technical knowledge for your own repair work, or if you just enjoy seeing these watches come apart and get put back together you'll find these videos entertaining.

is there any polish compound to deal with mineral glass?
One of the very first watches that I serviced was a really beat up Elgin from the early 70's. Looked like someone chucked the watch across the ground. But then I opened the caseback and angels started singing and a bright light shone out from within. A gold AS 1902 movement was sitting there, beautiful and pristine as can be. Same as your AS 1903 movement, minus the calendar complication. I was rather gobsmacked. It was however missing the automatic works. After a good deal of searching, I was able to find the automatic parts and a replacement Elgin case for it. Now, it is my favorite watch.
Great videography, and such a cool watch..👏👏👍
Thanks a bunch. I'm glad you enjoyed the video.
Beautiful dial. And as a few in the comments I have to agree hardly ever see a red dial. Got to say I like this oddball watch granted I like the oddball/unique stuff especially firearms cause there are so many interesting ones out there.
i love it its like me weird and thick!! Gum : Faber-Castell i use for rodico dont tell anyone
Haha! Me too.
@@WeekendWatchRepair Gum Faber-Castell i use for rodico dont tell anyone
@@ElderPinto254 I just look that up. It looks like it would work well.
@@WeekendWatchRepair just try thank me later lol its a little bit softer and every colour you want !!!
I love that candy apple red dial!
So do I.
Lovely work.Looking good! Watch lubrication is definitely a journey of applying less and less more precisely.
It certainly is. I'm far from perfect, but I'm trying to be very aware of the 'less is more' train of thought when lubricating a watch - especially the wheel train.
BRASIL. CHARLES 🤔
Hello!
Refreshing design. Beautiful dark candy red dial and date-wheel (love the date-wheel in fact). Nice find. Now you have something to grace your wrist that in all probability no one else will have.
I agree. I had never seen one before I came across the eBay listing. I've looked them up since then and seen a few models for sale (on rare occasion). They made a blue one that looks pretty stunning as well. I may be more partial to the red though. I see many more blue watches out there already, and this dark candy red is just fantastic.
@@WeekendWatchRepair Agreed. In the sea of black and blue dials watches, which are produced more because they sell more, the red makes it pop. And not just any red. Dark candy apple red with a datewheel to match. Years ago, I was informed by a salesman red dials are hard to come by. When manufactures produce them, they simply don’t sell in high quantities. Red dials are usually made in small batches, and sometimes in L.E offerings. Sir, being someone who always had dreams of being a watchmaker, I wish you nothing but success. You’re doing great. I think you have what it takes to grow your channel immensely. With consistency, it’s possible. I have observed many small channels excel to stardom. I have been watching more watchmaker content than ‘unboxings’ and reviews. Hence the reason I am here. Cheers 🍻
@@RabbitWatchShop Thank you for the history on why red dials are less common. I wasn't aware of that. Thank you as well for your kind words. I upload videos when I can. This channel is a hobby of mine, as I do not make my living from KZread (nor am I trying to). I try to get a new video done every few weeks, but that is as long as I can find the time to be at the workbench! Sometimes life gets in the way and other things need to be done. I'm very glad you found the channel and that you enjoy the videos. All my best.
never seen a crown like that, kinda reminds me of my citizen bullhead
I hadn't either before this watch. Since then a friend of mine told me about another brand called ZRC who do a lot of crowns at 6, but it's all modern stuff.
First ;)
Indeed you are!
Love the sound of the cannon pinion going on!
Haha, I did as well. Those and the barrel lids are really satisfying when they 'click' in place.
Should have took the affiliate link that's how youtube works these days just a heads up pal
I am not concerned about making money off of it. It was more important to me to be able to give an honest and unbiased review of the straps where I do not have anyone paying me to promote a product. The people at that company are very kind and fully understood. They kindly offered to do a code instead, and I thought viewers would appreciate the discount. I don't make my living off of KZread, so an affiliate partnership isn't anything I'm really trying to do.
Beautiful. Love that color and the case looks great.
Thanks a bunch. I'm very pleased with how it turned out. And I agree, that dial color is fantastic.
What a great video! And the perfect watch to expand on the cleaning process with. Simple movement, could have been a short video, so plenty of extra time to add in the cleaning. Love the PIP shots, I find them interesting.
Thanks a bunch. I'm glad you enjoyed it. I was pleased to be able to finally go into a bit more detail on the cleaning process.
god bless you i got 7 seikos 6139a and 6139b movement every time I got a problem with any of my waches i run straight to your assembly or deasembly of 6139 than I fix the issue spicially the second and the chronograph some times they not rest in place i just hold the bottom rest and line them on the spots ❤
Glad you found them helpful. Thanks for the comment.
freakin beautiful!!!!! thanks for the discount code
Thanks so much for watching, and thanks to VGreen for agreeing to do a discount code! You'll like the strap. They do great work.
,ollthose tweezers are messin ya up!!! throw them away
I know...I know!
Your videos are great too. I binged Marshall and ran out of videos so I looked for someone similar. You're both awesome.
Thanks so much. I'm trying hard to make detailed and thorough videos. I am really glad you are enjoying them.
i wonder if that main spring and barrel design was done that way to create a safety mechanism to prevent over wind ? i would surely act like a self locating ratchet on all those spring hooks around the inside of the barrel.
Yes, the spring will slip along the inside edge of the barrel wall. Some barrels have those recesses along the wall, others do not. The purpose of the braking grease is to allow the spring to grip enough to hold tension at a full wind but then let it slip against the barrel wall if winding continues, thus never allowing the watch to be over-wound.
It's possessed 😮😅
Hi Adam, big fan here, great work! Getting my first Seiko 6138-0030 shortly…so some of your tips to have checked are a great help here! Also have had some successes in servicing previous Seikos of mine…which have been greatly assisted under your video presentations, thank you for that. Regards from Sydney.
That's really great to hear. Thanks so much.
i have a 6139-6002 pogue that runs ok but needs a service, would you take on this job? i inherited the watch would never sell it but would really like to have it running to its former glory.
I appreciate you reaching out, but I am unable to take on commission work at this time. That might change at one point, but I'm just not set up for it currently. Thank you though.
@WeekendWatchRepair ok thanks for the reply, you do great work I'm also self taught and did an online course but I don't have the level of tools you have such as jewel press etc. I think this watch will need that level of kit. All the best.
@@andre-dx4yw I appreciate your understanding. All my best to you as well.
A quick question: I watch quite a few watch repair & refurbishment channels, & as far as I can tell, no one seems to use a pencil sharpener to get a fine point when using 'pen-wood'. It seems like it would be the obvious choice. But always the point of the peg-wood seems to have been cut using a knife instead. Why is that?
I've tried that. I find that it tears the pegwood and I don't get a real sharp point. For me personally, it's just faster and easier to cut it with a X-Acto type razor.
Amazing job! You deserve to be really proud of yourself for this!
Well done. Love your sense of humor and the intermission!
Thanks. I enjoyed putting that together.
First-time viewer. 👍 and subscribed.
Thanks so much.
Drilled lug holes only on one side actually makes plenty of sense, and is all you would need for easy spring bar removal. I had never seen or heard of this before but I like it.
Good point.
Just like you are not a professional watch maker, you are not a professional photographer. The first rule of media is don't tell people what is wrong. Most people won't know unless they are professionals.
Fair point.
Great job:enjoyed watching 😊
Thanks a bunch.
I would like to know what microscope you are using. I am thinking about delving into this unique hobby and it seems like a microscope would be manditory for my old eyes.
It's absolutely necessary for me as well. AmScope - SM-4NTP 7X-45X Simul-Focal Stereo Lockable Zoom Microscope on Dual Arm Boom Stand
Thank you ‼️
19,800 beats per hour, or 5.5 clicks per second?
That’s correct.
Brilliant!
Thanks a bunch.
Love that color. Great job
Thank you.
Love that watch. Nice work on all the repairs. Really like your channel.
Much appreciated!
First off LOVE your videos. I love vintage Seikos as well, and love restoring them to former glory. I'm having trouble sourcing gaskets/parts numbers. Where do you source yours?
To find the part numbers, I'm able to find 90% of the Seiko gasket part numbers from the old Seiko Casing Guides. They are available for download from numerous websites. Just a quick Google search should find a copy for you. You can find your model number (XXXX-XXXX) in the document and get the OEM part numbers for the crown, case, etc. gaskets. I hope this helps.
Your Pre-Cleaning Routine > Full Cleaning Routine for those of us without a machine. Very complete. And yes, I watched start to finish and I enjoy your videos.
Thank you.
your
i like the dial,i liike the watch,i am impressed by yor skills, bravo....
Thank you.
Currently working on one of these where the date wouldn't turn over on pushing the alarm button. This video is incredibly helpful. Thanks!
Glad it helped!
This watch is pure jewelry. Lol😢 However, useless or not, this thing looks great, inside and outside! 🕐⚙️🍸
I wish I could take credit, but all credit goes to Seiko. I just cleaned it up and got it running properly. It is a great looking watch for sure.
👏👏👏👏
Thanks.
NW Arkansas where I live had a couple recently
Indeed you have. Hopefully this severe weather season will be over soon.
Adam, first off another great video. I feel I learn more from your videos than every other watch repair channel out there. Your content is always informative and interesting. Secondly, is there any chance you could post the gentleman in Argentina’s eBay store address. I actually gave my son this exact Walkman in the late 90’s when I first got into collecting and tinkering on watches (back then you could get watches like this for Pennie’s compared to today) anyway, his now just sits in the top drawer because it needs some serious work on it, and I’d love to have the ability to get some NOS parts to help repair it. I know that Walkman watches were very popular in Argentina as I actually purchased the one I gave my son from a gentleman from there. Anyway, another great video, thanks.
I initially found him through a Facebook group (although I don't remember which one). Here is his eBay store: www.ebay.com/usr/wattches.ar A lot of his stuff is not posted. I'd suggest contacting him and seeing if he has what parts you are looking for. If he does, he will create an eBay listing that you can then purchase. His name is Guillermo, and he was a very nice guy. The parts I received were exactly as advertised. I hope this helps.
Increíble error de fabrica , lo noté después de desarmado .

Welcome back. I have a couple of Bulova's. Figure Chinese aren't copy them. My research shows that Bulova's don't have standard 52 lift angle (ref Bulova tech letter #34, Nov 75); 11AL uses 50 lift angle, 18000 beats
WOW!
