Hey boet, glad to see you back to normal! The only way from here… is up! God Bless.
Thanks for kind words. Appreciate it. Likewise
I've used the terinno tires for the last to cross seasons they stay on the rim really nice and will never burp when running super low pressures
Also never had burping on them. Really not a bad tyre at all just not a fast tyre for the racing snakes.
Stock wheelset?
No. A local brand that was made by a company in South Africa. Bullet proof. Carbon and epoxy from Germany.
i want build this frame with mechanical groupset like the advanced 2 😊
I’ve run this as a rear tire with the zero for the front both 38mm with great success
Most bikes come out with the 38C. Very popular tyre and I know of someone who has put them through their paces with good results and no issues.
Is the measure "36mm" for the width reliable, or are they a bit bigger once mounted?
These measure 40mm as per manufacturer. Depending on rim inner diameter they could be slightly wider or even narrower once mounted. Hope those answers your question.
I am 90kgs, riding the thunderos 44. One possible solution to the snakebites is to use tire inserts. I have some foams in there and have not suffered any issues with it. Going to try the 48's now (hopefully they will fit).
I have a friend who I pretty light say around 70kg with no problem. I think with a few tyres the inserts is probably the way to go.
Amazing of you to stream live and tape this. 👊
What happened with the audio this time?
The wind was hectic and was pushing the camera. Mic got pulled from helmets chin strap and had to then clip onto my shirt.
Shoot that sucks... Awesome anyway to get live footage of the race, so thanks for that
Hi , it will be nice to know the real weight of those tyres .Thanks .
Manufacturer lists them at 550g. Can always add a few grams to what they list.
@@massimoguglielmisa I ended up buying the tufo tire gravel thundero 700 x 48c weight weighed 478 and 491 they are good , thanks anyway .
Handlebar tape not so smooth installed. But nice bike
Nice review. Thank you for the honesty and good explanation. Your conclusion has been my experience as well. Bigger to a point is good for sure. Knowing the limit of where too big becomes diminishing return, and a negative in terms of unnecessary added weight and decreased aerodynamics, is a key thing to know. 47-50 is light MTB territory and should be used as such. For gravel 38-43 seems to be a sweet spot, perhaps slightly smaller for all out racing. Mostly roads and 32 fits the bill nicely.
Thanks for the kind words, it is always my opinion and experience however it could be of some help to others and that is the point.
@@massimoguglielmisa Definitely a help to any who hear. Thanks again and keep up the good videos and reviews.👍
What size frame was this?
Size large
@@massimoguglielmisa how tall are you?
@@codylanebillson2034 I’m 1.83cm. I opted for the large to increase the stack due to lower back pain in order to still be aero and efficient on the bike.
why no grease used on this build? Crack axle, hydraulic houses joints, headset bearings…
Definitely had grease everywhere. Not in the shots
@@massimoguglielmisa thanks for clarification ☺️
Sadly, it’s not recommended for hookless rims 😢
Great job! Even using the fork cable guide :)
So you encountered no tire rub in the short setting using the 47's?
Hey there. Nope. Bear in mind my inner rim width is 19.2mm however still measures 47mm pumped to desired pressure.
Hi... What is the tier of that Propel on Giant's carbon category.... Advanced 1 pro.. Advanced SL.. Advanced SL 0? Thanks
Hi. This one is the advanced pro. The frame is advanced carbon and the fork is the SL grade carbon. The advanced SL frame has the advanced SL grade carbon in the frame and fork.
Awesome content! Hope to see more of the crit videos
Glad you like you. Definitely when we racing there will always be.
Hi! its 650b or 700c?
Hi. They are 700c.
Hi what's better this or the maxxis rambler?
Hi. From what i see on paper the rambler looks faster. Think it’s a great tire as i have an athlete using a set. But again it will depend on terrain, pressure and what width you looking at. Most tests are done with the narrower versions and also not in real world environments. Gravel tyres are designed to perform on dirt.
Too strong 💪😎 You are a machine
Thank you Shaheen. Appreciate the kind words.
Were you running the Terreno Dry 47C tires you were reviewing a while back? If so, how was your experience with them?
Yes I was. So with all the testing I ran them at the recommended pressures. Rear - 2.6 bar (37.7 psi), Front a little lower at 2.4 bar (34.8 psi). The terrain was really rough with a lot of rocks and corregation but at no point did I feel as if they were going to fail. One of my youth athletes on the other hand did not have any luck. He used the Tufo Speedero I also tested and got a sidewall cut and snakebite even though he is very light. So the Terreno dry in 47C really held up and I must say for their size don’t roll had at all. But next in line for me would be a more slick tyre to test in a bigger size for more speed.
@@massimoguglielmisa Perfect, thanks for the reply. I bought Terreno Dry 47 for the front and 45 for the rear. Have not put them on yet but looks like I made a good choice. I'm doing a 120km gravel race in two weeks so I may actually put them on for that. Currently I'm on non-TLC Goodyear Connectors 45 and I'm impressed with how good they are for being a cheap OEM tire, they are getting quite a beating from me. AFAIK Tufos are known to be relatively quick at the expense of durability. They recently introduced more "rugged" variants of their gravel tires, not sure which one he ran.
That is great. I’m sure you will be happy what type of terrain is the race going to be? As for those Tufo’s they were the Speedero in a 40C and I agree they are fast but it comes at a risk. Good luck for your race.
@@massimoguglielmisaTerrain is going to be 65 % paved so very mellow gravel race, Terreno Drys might actually even be too much but I don't feel like doing the other 34 % of gravel and 1 % of XC MTB terrain on slicks :D
I'm no Keegan Swenson :D
Had similar experience with Schwalbe G-One Overland 50mm -- huge, heavy, slow but very durable. Will probably put them on my old alloy wheelset and make winter tires out of them. But I don't think all 50mm gravel tires are equal in this, I'm sure there are tires that wide that are actually still pretty snappy. The issue with yours is that it's a MTB tire (as you mentioned), the issue with mine is that it's for "bikepacking, commuting and ebikes", which pretty much fully equals "slow AF" -- I was stupid for not paying more attention to that spec when I was buying them.
Great to get some other feedback, and I agree they are not all equal. Especially when you look at the different tread patterns and durability. I guess they all have their place however the reason for this content is to help us all out to assist with making choices when we do go out and buy.
this is an OPINION piece, no testing at all!
Surely everything I do is in my own opinion however it based off testing on certain terrain and pressures. It’s not just riding but riding on mixed surfaces with different tyres pressures, and with the bike I used, the Giant Revolt using the flip chip both ways surely it is test. One does not need raw data to determine this as the change is enough to get from a real ride feel.
Well Done 💪😎
Thank you.
Challenge Getaway TLR 40mm works fine on knobbly tow paths in the UK. And fast on roads. Tough to mount is a negative. Min pressure shows 25psi
Not a bad tyre at all. Nice low pressure. Would be nice to test and see how it handles and holds up with rocks etc.
There’s a new heavier armoured version. My optimum test would be back to back with these and Maxxis Receptor Rambler Ravager. Subtle 40mm tyres!
What is that color called? This looks amazing!
Hi. It’s called Supernova.
Very cool to see the race from your perspective 🙌🏼🔥 congrats again for the win... you made it look easy 😂
Glad you like it and yes it’s nice to see but nice for everyone to see also. Lol I’m glad it looks like that. Was nice having you in front always willing to work. Thanks
This is awesome 💥thank you so much 🙏
Only pleasure. Always nice to see. Nice having you in front and always willing to work.
Frame weight please
It will be size dependent. Size Large you looking at around 1.2kg excluding the fork.
@@massimoguglielmisa next time please, make measurement of each detail, this makes more helpfull/clear informative.
Building up a size S Advanced 1 for a customer right now. Frame on that one is 887g, fork 406g
Excellent Video Massimo. 🍾🥳🙌🏻
I’m glad you enjoyed. Thanks for the feedback. Really appreciate it.
Nice one Thanks for the vid
Glad you enjoyed it
How much is the frame weight?
You looking around 1.2kg
Stunning , love that colour
Thanks it’s even better in real life.
I think if you tried a wider rim your tire dynamics would change, 19 is more road sized in my opinion.
True. Wider rims weren’t accessible at the time however the minimum tyre pressure still remains from manufacture. But as I have said these are pretty great and roll really well on the current rim as apposed to the 50C and or the flip chip on the longer wheelbase setting. So with the current setup they really rolling well. Also not everyone will be using wider rims out the box either so it was good to see how they are on these.
Good and informative, thanks Massimo
Glad you liked it! My pleasure.
Could you please send link where to buy the stem? Thanks 🫡
Hi. Only available from giant. Best to contact local bike store or online.
And they seem to be out of stock all the time... Lets launch a bike with a proprietary stem that can not be ordered...
Sorry to hear. I do know there was a hold up with the stems in a of 120mm. I went one size up due lower back pain. But I must say that I can ride a M/L being 1.83cm however my TCR was to aggressive for me. This bike is really up there with the top brands. I hope you come right.
weight please?
As seen 7,6kg. The wheels are heavier than most as they are also 60mm in depth. But I must say the bike is a machine and you don’t feel the worthy on the climbs.
@@massimoguglielmisaVery sick bike!thank you!
Your pressures are still to high, try under 25 psi.
Thank for the advice. I had the front one pretty close to that and the rear close to 29 psi and it felt very loose and terribly slow. Was also very bouncy and very very sluggish and slow.
@@massimoguglielmisa you've obviously never ridden an MTB 🤣
@@paulgrubits7449 I actually have. Raced them pretty competitively you know.
I have the 44 Thunderos. Love the speed on road and gravel and predictable grip and confidence that the side knobs give you. However I have the same experience with snake bites. The tires held up well on 1500+ km's of mixed gravel and road including ronde van riebeek (6+ doorings in the tire, all sealed) and the Gallows. But riding the contour path over Kirstenbosch garden's gave me 2 snakebites that I could not seal with plugs. I am 95 kg's though. I switched the front to a specialised pathfinder 42 for the added puncture resistance (supposedly) but these are more nervous on gravel when cornering.
Just saw that Tufo has HD versions of the tires now for only 30 grams of extra weight.
Great to get some added feedback. They are really great tyres but seems it’s safe to say that even the wider option can result in a snakebite too if you are a heavier rider. My snakebite was at the Swartberg 100 and in a race at in Vredfort Dome in Parys in the Freestate. I’m also adamant that it is the compound of the tyre, the weight of the rider the and not the size that will determine if they will cut or not.
Can you send a link for the handlebar?
Hi. Sure. keanbikes.co.za/products/Carbon-Handlebar-Road-Aerofly-Di2-Ready-p409854617
I ride them and i have 130KG. I start with tubeless aplication and after change of sides with tube.
So did you also struggle with flats?
@@massimoguglielmisa nope. Pressure is 4 bar in rear. I have one or two punchers from sharp rock.
Noice one M... looks like a weapon 😮
Thank you. Was really a pleasure building this one and getting up to date with the new model. Will do a full ride review soon.
It was very hard to hear you at the end, sorry. You may want think about shooting in a less echo-y room and/or using a cheap external mic that is closer to you.
Thanks for you feedback. Appreciate it. Will look into it.
I bought 1 Tufo Speedero 40mm for rear and 1 Tufo Thundero 40mm for front. Gonna test them soon
Not a bad setup. As I said they really roll well however if the terrain is rough just watch out for snakebites.
By now I have done several trips and I can say they are amazing. Of course, don't go to crazy low with pressure. I would not go lower then 35psi, most often around 40psi seems to work great for me
@@Aragorn.Strider they really nice but the South African gravel roads are really rough with a lot of rocks and stones too so that’s the problem.
Yeah, great to get some info on those. The issue at hand is if you see the Tuscany gravel roads they test these on, they are a far cry from what we have in Africa to battle over. I reckon going in size and trying a different brand will enhance your experience over the rough stuff. Keep pedalling. 👍🏻🤛🏻
Thanks Lazlo. For sure I totally agree but I do think based on testing we will be able to conclude that wider is just as fast if not faster. So more to follow. Thanks for the support.
Keep them wheels rollin!👍🏻
Always!
Well at least the weather was good! Nice to see some local flavour! Keep at it!
Thanks Lazlo. Weather was great for a long day in the saddle.
loL stop drafting and do some proper ITT or mountain pass. Solo or youre weak AF wheel sucker.
