    I'm really looking for how it works - the thinking behind the heat exchange. does it work differently in summer or winter? And, where to look for info on knowing what settings are right for home conditions (people, closed windows, etc).

  • @PioneerBuildersInc
    @PioneerBuildersInc2 күн бұрын

    I recommend an indoor air monitor and adjust as needed. In general, the humidity during winter will be higher than straight exhaust or supply ventilation (that's a good thing) and vice versa in the summer.

    The manual of the thermostat says that connecting a wired sensor will disable the onboard sensor in the 1050 and you can only re-enable the onboard sensor to read humidity. in your video you show the 2 readings the thermostat and the sensor, I would like to have more information about the remote sensor and how can use it to average temperatures and /or schedule the individual use of the sensor in different times of the day.

    Interesting perspective about Torx head screws. I find that the T-25 and greater work very well. Of course the right drill or impact driver is the key. It is not going to change the fact that there is a hole in the wall. So there may be some measurable reduction in some frequencies but don't expect to not to sound like a hole in the wall. What it can do is significantly reduce the amount of light that comes through. I used some matte black spray paint to help make it better and make the brown cardboard less noticeable through the vent slats (mine was installed around head height).

  • @PioneerBuildersInc
    @PioneerBuildersIncАй бұрын

    @@curtisbme we have done passive returns for years without any sound deadening without a complaint. However, those were higher on the wall. We'll see how this performs. I'm always trying to refine the process. Appreciate the idea of the paint.

  • @curtisbme
    @curtisbmeАй бұрын

    Installed one of those in our basement (larger model) when we added a return to the furnace/AC in a room with a door as I wanted to reduce light coming through it and ideally a bit of noise though that is probably not a measurable reduction. Though I'm curious why the room doesn't have a return if the room has a supply? Thought that was standard to do to ensure every room's heating and cooling is more consistent vs just doing one or two big central returns. Obviously don't need to have big door undercuts or do something like this if the room has a return.

    How do you like this unit compared to Broan or Zehnder devices? Are those worth the higher price? Any guidance on how to choose between the multiple manufacturers for a new build?

  • @PioneerBuildersInc
    @PioneerBuildersIncАй бұрын

    I don't have first hand experience with the Broan or Zehnder. I have examined a Broan and wasn't terribly impressed with the fit and finish, but take that with a grain of salt. The Zehnder are very efficient, but unless a person has the money and is in a more extreme environment, say climate zone 7, I don't know that I'd spend the extra money.
