    Hi, I’m very interested in the Vocaster One and its price is currently drastically reduced on Thomann‘s website (45€). However, I’m actually interested in recording music with it (Chinese bamboo flute/tin whistle and my guqin which is a stringed instrument). I don’t need an instrument jack, I would just use my condenser mic, most likely in combination with my iPhone 11 Pro and Cubasis. My idea is to replace my current interface (Alesis IO2 Express) with a better one. On your website there is an article about the comparison between the Vocaster and the Scarlett series. For the Scarlett series it says that for recording there is “plenty of headroom”. It says nothing the like for the Vocaster series and now I ask myself if it is more prone to clipping/distortion than the Scarlett series - especially if I want to record flutes/whistles which are often louder than a human voice. I also have to mention that I’m not an experienced audio engineer so my question might look stupid to some people. Do you think that the Vocaster One would be a good choice for me? Thanks!

  • @FocusriteTV
    @FocusriteTV2 күн бұрын

    Hi, thank you for reaching out and we would be happy to answer any questions you may have regarding Vocaster. The microphone preamps on Vocaster feature a very large 70dB input gain range, which is directly comparable to the 69dB gain range on the latest Scarletts. Therefore, Vocaster would have no problem capturing very loud and very quiet sound sources. As long as you don't need to connect any instrument cables to your interface, it seems Vocaster would be a good fit, but please let us know if we can answer additional questions.

    What does clipping mean?

  • @FocusriteTV
    @FocusriteTV8 күн бұрын

    Clipping is when an input signal is a too high, and the captured audio is distorted. You can avoid digital clipping by making sure your gain level isn't too high for the sound source you are capturing.

Vocaster will feature additional features, like microphone enhancements, and a mute button, but it should be noted the input signal of the microphones will be sent to the outputs when the mic is not muted. Specifically what kind of port are you trying to connect to? Have you installed the driver? This is included with the installation of Focusrite Control - downloads.focusrite.com/focusrite/clarett/clarett-8prex On macOS, Clarett Thunderbolt audio interfaces can be connected to Thunderbolt 3/4 ports using an Apple Thunderbolt 3 to Thunderbolt 2 adapter with Thunderbolt cable (this has the same connector but is different to a 'Mini DisplayPort' cable. Always check for the Thunderbolt logo). To connect to a Windows PC, you will need a computer with Thunderbolt 3 port. Thunderbolt 1 and 2 systems aren't supported, but may work and Thunderbolt 4 systems are not officially supported. Your Clarett will function standalone. Using Focusrite Control on a compatible computer will allow you to determine how the inputs and outputs are routed when used standalone.

    It is disappointing that Focusrite has abandoned the maintenance of its equipment drivers without at least offering a way for the community to continue this maintenance. As a result, both my VRM Box and my Saffire Pro 40 interface, whose hardware is completely functional, have essentially become useless simply because I updated my computer and the drivers are no longer compatible. People pay a lot for "classic equipment" and should I just throw this equipment in the trash because of a discontinued driver? The preamps are good, the AD/DA converters, the phone amplifier, the connections... everything is funcional, but because of a software detail it becomes useless... thank you Focusrite!

  • @FocusriteTV
    @FocusriteTVАй бұрын

    We apologise for any disappointment this may have caused. Unfortunately, we had to end development support for our Saffire FireWire devices at the end of 2019, approximately 10 years after their release. Generally speaking, we offer a minimum of 2 years of development support when a product is discontinued. In the case of Saffire, we were able to extend this support to over 5 years. Similarly, the VRM Box was discontinued several years ago and is not officially compatible with any operating systems released after OS X 10.9 Mavericks. Changes to current operating systems have resulted in incompatibility issues that we are unable to address. However, your products should continue to function well if used with a compatible operating system.

This leads to a more precise analog-to-digital conversion. This provides not only a better time base resolution but also good resolution in the frequency domain". Do any research anywhere and you'll find the same. If you disagree past that, I don't know what to tell you.

  • @PetraKann
    @PetraKannАй бұрын

    When you sample of frequency 22 kHz using a sampling rate of say 44 kHz you are generating 2 points per wave cycle. In other words a smooth sine wave of 22 kHz would only have two points on the sinusoidal wave for the converter to work with and reproduce the original wave input. Compare that to sampling a low frequency sound of say 22 Hz. In this case the sampling rate of 44kHz will generate 2,000 sample points along this sound wave. The Converter will be able to reproduce that low frequency much more accurately. So, as the frequency of the sound increases the digital sampling accuracy decreases. High end frequencies are much harder to digitally capture and reproduce by a digital sampling encoder.
