You are describing the school I worked at last year, minus an 8th grader bringing a gun to school and another one stealing my cell phone, who got 3 days in-school suspension. I only came back because the city police was able to recover my phone from the child’s house! Honestly, the stress from that school year has cemented my decision to leave.

I taught at a middle school for 2 years and that was the most depressed/anxious/stressed/overworked I’ve ever been. I had to get out. The second I got another job my mental health and physical health got so much better. Teachers deserve so much more.

I am quitting today... The particular school I am teaching at... The management has admitted children who clearly have learning and huge behavioural needs for the sake of getting the fee... I feel for the students but I am too tired of planning for 30 minutes of teaching but ending up discipling the students for 20 minutes out of the 45 in a period. The pressure to finish the syllabus is real. The extra hours that I dont get paid for. The stress of dealing with management decisions which change by the hour.

Please find someone to address school bus driver issues. We drive a 24,000 bus with anywhere from 25 to 75 (skinny) students daily. Knowing that texting and driving is distracting and dangerous, can you imagine how dangerous it is to have 5 to 20 or more kids misbehaving on a bus? We get mocked. We get hit. We get treated disrespectfully by administrators. Those same kids teachers have problems with keep getting put on our bus… the ones that get EVERYBODY acting up and disrespecting the drivers

No, I understand. My son (with his masters degree in education) worked as a teacher for two years, and then decided not to stay in that. It was horrible for him. It’s bad enough for me as a school, bus driver. I can’t even imagine with the teachers go through. I love you guys, especially you miss Richardson .

If you have good classroom management, the administration will continually put students with behavior issues and/or difficult parents in your room. The administration doesn't care if you're stressed or that you have more students than your peers. They are simply trying to make their job easier. Unfortunately, I dealt with this for thirty years, and I applaud you for being courageous enough to put yourself and your health first.

i just looked up an alternative school near me n the website said the ratio of staff to students is 1:2, i cant imagine having to look after 30! kids, multiple with need for special attention. i dont even think its fair for the kids at that point

Your videos made me want to reach out to an old teacher who was so incredibly good to me. I found out she has passed away. She was only 50. I just pray she did not take her life, or succumb to stress from the job. I'm in so much pain knowing she is gone. I hope you and other teachers like you know that the kids get older and move on but they don't forget the love you showed them. I was too shy as a child to tell her that everything she did meant the world to me. But i hope she knew, and I hope you know too. I'm sorry our system treats you like this.

i just want to say hank you from the bottom of my heart for not demonizing your disabled students. i've seen a lot of ableist sentiment around disabled and behaviorally challenged students, and as someone who was both of those things in school, it's hurtful. the way the schools are run ends up running disabled kids into the ground, leaving us without the support we need and worsening struggles we were already facing. seeing people blame us for a situation we have no control over and are therefore acting "inappropriately" in has always been heartbreaking to see. thank you for not perpetuating those ideas and being respectful about your students, even while the way the school made you deal with them was giving you serious medical issues... not everyone has that kind of integrity. thank you.

For a few decades now, the average American is unable to conceptualize an appropriate "punishment" for a "crime". It's always extreme. They don't get that what he did was not an appropriate response for what the teacher did. It was too much. Then they also never consider his contribution to the situation to begin with. That entire situation would never have happened at all if it were not for his own behavior. Like I said, most American adults are absolutely broken extremist who really can't see that they over-react to the slightest things and UNDER-react to things that are REALLY serious. ... and so American children are the same.

I even sometimes give the side eye to my husband. 😂😂 After one episode, I told him, "If you ever want to leave me, you don't have to kill me." We both laughed so hard bc he said he was thinking the same thing. He said, "Please don't put antifreeze in my food." I promised i wouldn't. 😂
