    It’s easy to imagine purchasing and playing one of these in the late 70s if I were around back then. It would’ve likely been perfectly suited for stacking (something like) an OBXa on top of it if I were still playing it in 1981. I obsess constantly about keyboards with stackable chassis, having owned and parted with a Wurlitzer 200A, a Rhodes Suitcase, a pair of Baldwin electric spinets, a Yamaha CP70 and a Hammond E organ (that my mentor refused to let me mount another keyboard or synthesizer over top of).

    I own the same model for a few years. You can get them very cheap here in Germany, mostly in really good condition. This organs were made as home instruments, they were much more affordable than home pinanos back in the days. In 2020 I did a little overhaul on the Philicorda, the spring reverb was dead (had a shorted transistor) and some registers did not working (some traces on the circuit board near the switches were broken). But that was it. I also added a switched 1/4" stereo jack into the signal path, so I can plug in an effect pedal and use it with the build in speakers. Sounds very cool with the Neo Ventilator II Leslie emulation. It's a neat little and very reliable instrument with a surprisingly good sound. 😊

    You've done your homework..... can't beat the Ventilator. Yamaha has made some strides with better Modeled rotary effects with YC series and new Montage M boards, but you'd have to re-invest into the new iron for that. Instead, it's no doubt more affordable to go Ventilator or Ventilator II instead of replacing your investments for a the sake of the best Leslie organ effect. Great choice.

  • @geoelectro
    @geoelectroАй бұрын

    Yes, been using the Ventilator since it came out. As soon as the II came out I got it. I use it with my Korg Kronos and even the Hammond B-3X App on my iPad. Yamaha did a great job with the technology available at the time. I may do a comparison of the chorus effect against the H90. That might be fun.

    Ya, a sequential LFO trigger would work really well to sequence this and a whole lot more. The ARP 1047 has separate outs for the 4 filter types with a blend knob. It also has a bunch of other goodies. Thanks for the inspiring content. Cheers

    Nice patch. The Yusynth Quadrature LFO would be another tool for driving the VCA's too. This idea was my first DIY module I built in the 1980's for my PAiA modular. It had a SVF but of course wasn't anywhere as nice sounding as the Q107. Fun stuff. Yes, the OB6 filter is a great one because of the ability to use the matrix to morph that beautiful filter.

  • @ilikethechaos.7032
    @ilikethechaos.7032Ай бұрын

    Or the STG Mankato Filter self oscillating and used as a LFO. I have used the quadrature outputs into a vc mixer to do something similar, but if I remember right, it was wavefolders and waveshapers I was morphing between at the time. I like the envelope idea a little better for some things as I remember wishing the Mankato had sync so it would restart in time with other aspects of the patch.

  • @midiwall
    @midiwallАй бұрын

    As you work with crossfading, watch out for the phase relationship between the outputs from a single split source. You can easily get into a spot where you're getting more NULLing than mixing. Sometimes this can be good (it's a fun way to create a notch filter!) but many times it'll drive you nuts trying to figure out where your bass went. This is why @ilikethechaos.7032 has solid success with waveshapers, the off-phase relationship of a pile of inputs is a feature!

  • @Bata9999
    @Bata9999Ай бұрын

    I had a similar idea for emulating a state variable filter using a voltage controlled crossfader on the high and low filter out. This is how some oscillators with variable shape blend between waveforms. Problem is I don't know of a voltage controlled cross fader in 5U (haven't really looked).

  • @geoelectro

    I believe the DotCom VCA2++ can do it. Yes, just tested it. It works because each VCA in this module has invertable attenuators. While one is getting louder, the other is getting softer. It's setup so one CV goes to both VCA's unless you run two CV's so they can operate separately. It can do panning and Ring Modulation as well.

    It may be that Roger recorded the audio with the camera mic...I'm not sure. I recorded directly to DAW. I had a Model 15 Moog for about a month and that filter rocks! The Ladder Filter from DotCom does an equally good job. The 4pole/2pole switch has a big affect on the sound. There is a jumper on the back to make the 2pole a 3pole. I'm going to try that soon. Hi George, I just got a Philicorda GM752 from Europe and it was damaged in shipping. The 5 Din center plug on the bottom for output/headphone? was pushed in. One key is raised but still springy. The front panel looks like it pushed forward and buckled a little so I know the keyboard shifted around in transit. I switched the power from 220v to 110v on the bottom and powered it up. Pilot light came on but no sound with any combination of switches Zero noise. Bummer. Waiting to hear back about the insurance. The inside looks very clean. Did not see any concerns with the naked eye. I'm curious what a general repair guess-timate would be on this organ. I would like to fix it, maybe as a project myself or if there is someone who could repair it I'm all ears. It's too cute to just let it go to waste. Since you JUST worked on one I'm feeling hopeful that I can get this working again. Goes nicely with my other Dutch keyboard the Solina.

  • @geoelectro

    Man that's a shame with the shipping damage! It's not possible to estimate this kind of problem. Especially without actually seeing it and making tests. However, I believe it can be repaired. In my case I found and downloaded the schematics and began troubleshooting the problem. The first thing you should examine is the power supply. Good luck!

Interesting to see the additional modules that the MFG of your system offers that are not available for the Behringer clone, such as sample and hold, the switch, quantizer etc. I have started looking at other manufacturers for similar modules to add. I just added a second 960 sequencer and sequential switch, also quantizers from 2HP and clock module that I can run the sequencers with and have them better match other external sequencers. I recently acquired a Behringer System 55 and it is a blast to use! In a world of instant gratification and presets, turn something on; press a button and get a pretty sound, it is refreshing to have to work at it to get the sound you want. Its like an erector set for musicians! I love your set up, looks to be closer in scale to the original Moog and love the wood cabinets! After I get some time under my belt an decide what modules I like where, I plan to get a similar cabinet. Glad you're making these videos! I actually do this with a Behringer Eurorack replica of the Moog 960! Except I run my sequencer CV out through a VCA and use the clock as the VCA CV, or the other way around, depending on what I'm triggering. You could maybe do something similar and save yourself that AC mixer, by feeding the CV out into the comparator threshold CV in, and running the clock into the comparator's input. You can do the same using that VCA on the bottom too, for two of these sorts of crude "logic AND" circuits. That gets pretty neat with clock dividers, especially if you have another sequencer. (Look at how the Moog Subharmonicon sequencer works)

  • @geoelectro
    @geoelectro2 ай бұрын

    Great info. I’ll play with that. Like I said I found this by accident while working on another project. I like the VCA suggestion, especially since I have several.😊

  • @nickmarkham3743
    @nickmarkham37432 ай бұрын

    @@geoelectro Forgot to mention a caveat I'm sure you're already aware of. But for completeness sake, voltage levels can cause this patch to fail. If your clock source is weak, it doesn't open the VCA all the way, and your sequencer CV may not trigger your envelope generator. Generally, all I need to do is add some offset to the VCA CV input. (The level knob, if your VCA has it) It's not usually a problem anyway, but for some of my modules, their output just isn't hot enough. Especially when you're using this trick with two low output clock sources instead of a clock and a relatively strong sequencer step.
