That's the negative lifestream. The lifestream of the people with Jenovas cells that cant return to the planet. It's what the remnants are also born from. You can see it in the beginning of the movie during the motorcycle scene. The hounds kinda just spawn from it

In Lifestream Black (its a novel by Nomura that takes place before advent children) were told that Sephiroth basically attached himself to Cloud in the Lifestream and that his hate is what kept him from dissolving in the Lifestream ( my theory is since hes connected to cloud he used the life stream and went to a earlier point in time through Cloud) Keep in mind Only Cloud could see him till the end of remake

The way Masamune rings like that... it's eerie as heck. Just his presence for an instant bringing calamity wherever he is...After all these years and two videogames we can see those murderous eyes watching the world like that and Cloud being overwhelmed until he uses a different Omnislash to defeat him. Most likely if thwy meet again Sephirot will be ready for this Omnislash too so Cloud will have to be creative again
