Thank you for the trip down memory lane, I absolutely loved this video, I grew up ‘down the village’, and it was brilliant to see the old place, the venture, the pheasant, the wee red school, the Graham’s buses, so much to see! Many thanks for sharing this wonderful piece of Linwood history. We always jumped the wall to play in the wee red school, but I struggle to find Amy images of the old place. I always remember running to the school at lunchtime from Mossedge with Wee John H Lee to buy mars bars, and play a quick game of crazy golf, such a shame that the history of Linwood has been destroyed, and never taught in school. Napier Street was the heartbeat of Linwood with the church at the top, I fear for what’s left in the old cottages. They’ll be gone soon too at the rate of redevelopment. many thanks to the cine man for taking this piece of history. It’s a treasure. Cheers.

I went to the wee red school. It was reopened because of the growing population there where two classes mines went to Mossedge and the outher went to Craigends in 1966 . The school was used as a youth club in the late 60s and early 70s.

Hi Robert and all, I have always been fascinated by the Clippens House and the white lady that haunted it. Grew up across the road in Atholl Place and me and my pals were always sneaking over to it in the 70’s and 80’s jumping on big plastic barrels in a moat around or at the side of the house. My first flat was one of the Balfour Beatty ones right next to the house. The video is brilliant but where in relation to the basement was the bunker, does anyone know what happened to it when the house was converted into flats?
@rtl19602 жыл бұрын
Stephen thanks ! we where originally going to spend the night in clippens house to investigate ghosts ! my late friend Prof Archie Roy was at the time top expert in psychic phenomena was going to join us , unfortunately after getting permission from Renfrewshire council it was then with drawn but we where allowed into the house that's when I did the video , we where not allowed into the bunker which I believe was in the basement of the house .

Hi Robert, I am a retired telecommunications technician who used to maintain the telephone lines into Clippens House Strathclyde Regional Command Centre and the outlying ROC posts. I have been curious to find out if all the equipment had been removed before conversion into flats or just bricked up. I worked for the council after after leaving BT and no one could recollect any vehicles removing the equipment. Any ideas.
@rtl19602 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately I do not know what happened to the equipment , Jim Winters got permission from the council for the heritage society to get in to see inside , we where not allowed into the bunker part. We arranged a second visit to investigate the Ghosts The council agreed and we where bringing in Prof Archie Roy who was at the time top expert on paranormal. But the council then blocked us from getting back in. Would suggest you ask Paisley Museum ? As they would probably get the contents.

Thanks for uploading this, Robert. Brings back another memory of that day for me. Our family dog did a Houdini on us for a week and I went looking for him at Cardonald Cat & Dog Home. I found him there and on the way to get the bus back to Paisley, I spotted a plane that didn't look quite right. Sure enough, it was the Shuttle getting a piggy back ride. Not sure whether I was happier to get the dog back, or to see such a spectacular sight.

I am 78 years old. My first job from school. was as an apprentice at J and P Coats in Paisley. I started fresh from Hillhead High School in Glasgow. After a preliminary few months at the Glasgow Head Office in Bothwell St, I was sent down to Paisley about 12 miles away. I travelled there from the housing estate Khightswood in the west of Glasgow, by my Vespa scooter, over the Renfrew Ferry , down the Renfrew Rd to Paisley. Work started at 7. Am. The noise of the Spinning machines was deafening . At that time there must have been 6000 people employed between Anchor and Ferguslie mills. Britain was making things, there was a community. Sadly gone.
