There still isn’t any real starter technique for using a daw that really clicks with most people starting with the qwerty and shortcuts /key commands. It’s like brail and I can’t get used to it still to this day . So it’s a misery for me . I grew up totally without any training on the qwerty and when I attempted to learn it I found out it triggers my ptsd very badly so I have stuck to the mouse method to avoid that . On iOS I was very happy for the most part with gadget and garage band hoping to be able to use logic with touch instead someday convinced that would eliminate fidgeting with unintelligible tools driven by keyboard shortcuts etc. I was wrong. The iOS version of logic infuriated me twice as much because unlike GarageBand it’s clunky cluttered and expects me to use the hideous stylus I hate too. And unlike GarageBand where you simply touch a clip to open editing tools etc and song sections to assemble parts length of patterns they’re totally not incorporated in logic for iOS . So I’m now struggling with sync in logic on the computer with my hardware which ableton link runs in but I can’t figure it out either. Searching for an answer online is usually impossible because everything takes too long to get to the explanation. 👽😐😖

I just happened across this video and decided to watch it. I’ve been making music for over 30 years now, but over the past 4.5 I’ve been solely DAW based. I use both GarageBand iOS and Logic Pro for iPad. I do have quite a bit of 3rd party plugins but most the time I use the stock sounds and effects. This one was started in GB iOS and then moved to LP4iP to add more and then finish it off. Everything you hear is stock instruments and effects. I didn’t use any 3rd party anything for this. Please let me know what you think. kzread.info/dash/bejne/Y6Vrsbanqq27dZc.htmlsi=kN3l78l8OmjBXyE1

I have mixed feelings about Slate VSX. The bass in the emulations seems to be totally overpowering (in the reference tracks, not mine). It may sounds cool and exciting, but I can't believe that studio monitors have such an overly bassy sound in recording studios. In addition, the speaker balance within a given simulation seems strange, because when switching from small near-field speakers that can sound as if they somehow had sub-bass, we suddenly get even more bass. Totally weird thing. In the meantime, out of curiosity, I checked Realphones 2.0, which I was skeptical about, especially after spending a lot of money on VSX, but I must say that after listening to their emulations, it sounds much more realistic. I recommend checking it out. After a long time of comparing Slate VSX vs Realphones vs my KRK 5, I'm considering returning the VSX.
@DanTremblayMusic4 ай бұрын
Interesting, thanks for sharing. I’m not familiar with Realphones. But KRK are exceptionally popular for a reason, because they work well. If I were you, I would spend some time treating your room with some acoustic panels and more importantly, bass traps. The KRK’s should do just fine. My reference monitors are tiny and lack low end, so for me the VSX make sense. But I agree with you, it’s better to stick with one room and one emulation. Thanks for watching and for sharing. Cheers!

Thanks for reminding me again what comes inside of Logic! Man, I get so caught up in the consumer feeding frenzy and feel like I just 'need another plug in' that I overlooked what I already had in front of me. There are some limitations but you can always do a midi line, bounce in place bring into Sample Alchemy or another sampler and still have your way with it. Thanks for the vid!

Absolutely. I’m still rocking the same computer and have used it in several productions for client work. I have also tested the m1 air with the same configuration and it can run large Ableton live looping templates with ease. If you’re running very large projects with tonnes of vsts, you may want to consider something more powerful. But I haven’t run into any issues yet. I would still recommend it even though the m2 and m3 are out. Hope that helps!

Neat to see how this came together. On first listen to the released song I appreciated the piano and texturing you added, and the overall approach to keep the song true to how Lauren plays it solo. Really elevates the song without overwhelming the soundscape. Would not have known the acoustic guitar wasn't Lauren, solid impersonation... Was curious about the vocals at the end, and how that was created. As a listener would hope its multiple harmony takes, but that is probably unrealistic when a harmony effect does that just as well. Or is that just more of a hard pan of two tracks making it feel like more is going on?
@DanTremblayMusic4 ай бұрын
Thanks for watching and commenting, I appreciate it. As for the vocals at the end (I think you’re referring to the “ooo’s”?), i think Lauren wanted them further back. So I think initially she was going to back away from the mic during tracking. But the problem with that is you introduce more room noise. So instead, I pushed them further back into the mix with reverb so we retained the quality of the take. As for the outro vocals, I dialed the effects back to really get that up front and intimate sound. 😉
