    1) the middle mast is called the "main mast". 2) Yes, there was a clipper ship that had 5 masts. But most clippers had only 3. Most sailing ships had either 2 or 3. Single masted ships were smaller and tended to be coastal. 3) Vikings sailed on longships, not galleys. Longships are smaller, lighter, faster, more maneuverable and had a much lower draft (space between the deck and ocean). The rowers on galleys sat higher above water than the rowers on longships. The longships were also much more flexible than galleys. Longships did not have rams. Galleys had rams. 4) Privateers were only authorized to engage against enemy ships. Pirates attacked any ship they thought they could beat.

This is the magic system as a whole, long text warning. Chroma Energy can just be used by those who are part of a group or "tribe" with a born in relation with their respective Chroma Energy, also known as Gifted People. There are more Zumanian who can't control it than those who can. Zumanians are essentially "animal people" so you can understand me. In this world there are no humans. The multiple shapes the Raw Chroma can take are: Natus- Native energy of the Pamapu tribe, which seeps into the lands of the Viridia region. This energy was used by the emperor of the Pamapu tribe, the god Yum Kaax. It has properties on plant life, can regenerate minor wounds and restore the energy of others, and can live on Photosynthesis without food. It is a Reactive Nature element in general. Aquos- Native energy of the Marenida tribe, which seeps into the lands of the Iriguase region. This energy was used by the empress of the Marenida tribe, the goddess Chaq. It has properties on water, moisture and liquids, can withstand underwater pressure and can breathe underwater. It is an element of Passive Nature in general. Pyrus- Native energy of the Vulkaneki tribe, which seeps into the lands of the Iyanrin region. This energy was used by the emperor of the Vulkaneki tribe, the god Gibil. It gives them control over heat and pyrokinesis as well as resistance to high temperatures, such as walking on lava. It is usually an Active Nature element. Petra- Native energy of the Apteki tribe, which seeps into the lands of the Nyikaibe region. This energy was used by the emperor of the Apteki tribe, the god Geb. They can generate mineral structures as well as solidify their bodies with the hardness of extremely resistant minerals. It is an element of Neutral Nature usually, but of Reactive attacks. Noxius- Native energy of the Zalau tribe, which seeps into the lands of the Zisede region. This energy was used by the Empress of the Zalau tribe, the goddess Manasa. They have the ability to expel toxins with multiple effects in the 3 states of matter, and the acidity of their stomachs is such that it can melt metals. It is an element of Reactive Nature usually. Volta- Native energy of the Thunderia tribe, which seeps into the lands of the Blitzrom region. This energy was used by the emperor of the Thunderia tribe, the god Zunar. It has properties to absorb, channel and disperse high amounts of electricity, stimulate muscles and even move objects by electromagnetism. It is an element of Active Nature usually. Terra- Native energy of the Quakuya tribe, which seeps into the lands of the Zameenkam region. This energy was used by the empress of the Quakuya tribe, the goddess Bhumi. It gives them a sense of detection of any entity on land at least one kilometer away, they can move underground and manipulate sediments giving them multiple forms. It is a Passive Nature element usually. Aero- Native energy of the Whirand tribe, which seeps into the lands of the Chionotyellas region. This energy was used by the Whirand emperor, the god Aeolus. It has properties to generate and manipulate air currents, fly and possess an enhanced sense of echolocation in any species, as well as manipulate sound waves. It is a Neutral Nature element generally, but attacks as a Passive. Psi- Native energy of the Mitelevian tribe, seeping into the lands of the Xiangfa region. This energy was used by the Mitelevian Empress, the goddess Benzaiten. It is generally a Passive Nature element. It gives members of the tribe psychic abilities such as telepathy and telekinesis, as well as a connection to the world's Chroma Net to move through it without a Nexus Point, only requiring being near to the mind energy of others to teleport. Their abilities can also influence gravity and the flow of the surrounding time flux. Spectrum- Native energy of the Ghoulibli tribe, which appeared due to the curse of the mortal emperor being tricked into angering the god Anubis. This energy seeps mostly through the Zambeki region. It originally belonged to the god Anubis. It is usually Reactive in nature. The users of this Chroma are undead and are related to the Underworlds (the afterlife the hell or how you call it) It allows them to pass into a separate dimension for a period of time, their bodies being undead they do not suffer damage from wounds nor do they need to breathe (they can even cut parts of their body and remain in control of these) But their bodies are in a constant state of decomposition that makes them need to consume soul energy to reverse the process as much as they can. Also cold temperatures slow down the process. Other of the abilities they possess is to judge the acts and know the life expectancy of anyone they look at, but this ability fails on immortal beings or other Ghoulibli. Vitae- The most common kind of Chroma energy found in all the Zumanian kind even those who do not control Chroma. But just the Varitrobe tribe can control it. It is found flowing in large quantities in the territory of the Ulakopuni region. This was representative of the ruler of the Varitrobe, the goddess Djanggau. It usually possesses an Active Nature. This energy allows both to heal major damages as well as to improve the physical aptitudes of the individual, and it is the tribe with the greatest amount of Chroma Reservoir energy at its disposal. Energy that they can use for defense or offense. From bursts of this same or materialize limbs to enhance their damage or cover from attacks. In addition the Chroma Vitae can cause damage to the Ghoulibli on contact. Umbra- Two of the rarest kinds of Chroma in the world. The sum of these two produces energy in its pure Raw state. It is an element of Ethereal nature. The south of the Onmyokuni region oozes that energy raw to the surface. Energy used by the god Tsukiyomi, emperor of the Umbera tribe. The possessors of this energy can move at impossible speeds thanks to pass into a dimension of their own Chroma energy. They have perfect omnidirectional vision, and have the ability to produce constructs with their own energy known as illusions. On a large scale even whole people with their own thoughts can be the illusion of an Umbera. In addition to this they have the ability to manipulate the actions of others at will if they look them in the eyes, but this is not hypnosis as that is making them want to do it, this is denying their will. Their minds cannot be read even though they can. Except for Illumiera and gods. Lumina- Two of the rarest kinds of Chroma in the world. The sum of these two produces energy in its pure Raw state. It is an element of Ethereal nature. The north of the Onmyokuni region oozes that energy raw to the surface. Energy used by the goddess Amaterasu, empress of the Illumiera tribe. The possessors of this energy can move at impossible speeds thanks to pass into a dimension of their own Chroma energy. They have perfect omnidirectional vision, and have the ability to negate the effects of Umbera illusions no matter how strong they are. They also have the ability to manipulate the actions of others at will if they look them in the eye, but it is not hypnosis as that is making them want to do it, it is denying their will. Their minds cannot be read although they can. Except for gods. Technus- This type of Chroma energy is exclusive to the pre-zumanian species created before they existed. When they were exposed to Chroma energy it also ended up affecting them producing what is known as Chroma Technus. It is an element of Neutral nature but can adopt any type of nature effortlessly, minus Ethereal. This energy was later used by the regents of the Mechanos and Strecnians, the gods Kanayago and Amatsumara. The Mechanos, beings of nanotechnology have the ability to modify their bodies into multiple attachments for various situations. As well as regenerate much of their bodies easily. Strecnians, beings of a slime-like goo created from solidified data can manipulate the technology they come in contact with. They are generally immune to physical damage due to their consistency, but always tend to enhance the abilities of a Mechano.

This is the magic system from my story. It's known as *_Chroma._* It's basically elemental magic but with a twist. Since all elemental systems have a weakness and effectivity chart it makes characters need to change elements on the go. But the characters of my story are genetically limited to just control one. So, there's where the 4 different states of the Chroma Energy comes. Active. The use of the user's own energy. Passive. The use of the energy from the environment. Reactive. A unbalanced mix of the energy of the user and the environment. Neutral. A perfect mix of the energy of the user and the environment. Usually a counter to attacks. Ethereal. Related to the dimensional plain of the energy.

O_o There are some wierd magic rules here. Witches need to have pacts with demons? Virgions can't do magic? What? I guess just go for whatever you like. My idea of a magic system is way different. This video did bring up something I haven't considered. The government could interact with magic and have laws. That is interesting. The Wiccan Rede is a good rule lf thumb. So I would like to have poiltical laws based on that. Magic is generally legal and acceptable. However it is illegal to use magic to harm someone. It is also illegal to control thier free will. This control is still harmful. In Harry Potter, the unforgivable curses are illegal. People tht get caught are put in prison. This does work in a similar way. There can be laws limiting magic to those who are resposible enough to follow the rules. This can be called magic control. People are only allowed to used magic at a certain age. Very young kids are not allowed to use magic at all. People can start learning magic in thier teens or twenties. Then they need to graduate magic school before doing magic outside of the that school. Once magic is learned, people can use it for the rest of thier life. Magic is banned or restricted for people with a background in crime and/or mental illness. This magic control would be controversal. It has a pro side and con side. The pro side argues that people should be safe form the harms of magic. They want to prevent people getting cursed by cruel Dark Lords and other bad magicians. The con side argues that wielding magic is a human right. It is oppressive for the government to infringe on that right with controlling magic. This controversy is juicy enough to make for an interesting plot or subplot in a fantasy. It reflects the real world controversy of gun control in the United States. Personally I am pro gun control. There have been too many shootings. This leads to injury and murder. So I think the American government should be stricter and remove loopholes in gun liscensing and gun sales.

In the fantasy setting I've been developing for awhile humans never invented gunpowder and so crossbows and ballistae took the place of muskets and canons. However, there's also dragons so ships are outfitted with two sets of ballistae: one below deck for ship-to-ship engagement and one above deck for counter-draconic warfare. First and second rate ships can also be outfitted with dragon decks and therefore act as aircraft carriers, dragons are held in pens below deck and then release through large openings in the upper hull.

I would include another: if magic is common think about how it would be used for everyday things. Such as public safety, sanitation, and mundane careers (such as a cook). "Everyday life with magic" makes it feel much more integrated into the world (internal consistency). 7:27 There's a difference between "failed to cast spell" and "failed to solve problem". Magic can be super reliable without instantly solving everything. I don't recall any "failed to cast" in the first few Dresden books which were plenty exciting. 7:55 Should be "decide on the general attitude and public reaction" in each place. Local laws are good but only exist for places that are aware of magic which depends on how common it is or if there's a conspiracy. 9:39 I think you should switch laws 6 and 7 for the sake of order but ok. 1 call out here is that "training" might be like the X-men where everyone has to figure out their own stuff but the teachers can help walk through it.

For magic systems, oh boy am I getting a headache on mine. The best way I can describe it is... [deep breath] Imagine the code system from The Matrix, where select few able to read it somehow interpret it into a visual manifestation of what is going on in real time, only in this case it's writing that code to manifest and manipulate physical matter. "Programing" the code it into a cog wheel made of a luminescent material with the physical properties of iron but the visual properties of corundum with essentially a blueprint of a machine or elemental effect while it simultaneously absorbs raw materials required to create it. Then when the cog wheel is electrically stimulated it will then manifest and assemble the desired machinery or effect around it, when deactivated the manifestation will then disassemble and store it again where materials and programming can repair and improve upon it. This allows a skilled craftsman to design impossible machines that will be magically constructed, resulting in complex weapons and armor, Cannons that manifest and fire bolts of energy, stationary engines that can produce sufficient thrust to defy gravity, and other creations all powered by magic. Then there are the people in my world where (thanks to generations of exposure due to geographic isolation) have the material in their bloodstream instead of iron and are actually able to manipulate it to perform elemental magic without the aid of a mechanical apparatus but require they literally have every runic symbol in the code tattooed on their skin using ink infused with the material to act as an interface that requires a lifetime of training to master. like I said, a headache
