Exquisite work ... Very interesting, how to create the Quill work. I use to make earrings with feathers, and I can just imagine how some people are surprised at the cost. They don't realize the amount of work/knowledge that goes into it.

I will be weaving my first headband as a gift to a Makah and Snohomish elder for my naming ceremony. Years ago Gram Lillian Pullen of Quileute showed me how to make a beginner's basket. Weaving with cedar is so healing. It has been many years since I have worked with cedar but people keep giving me more! I have cedar that is up to 15 years old. How do you know if the cedar is still good for weaving and when it is not?

@@selbst105 No problem ... You could use something softer however. I'm in the process of making a pair of mocs with brain tanned buckskin, but if you don't have that you could purchase some (thick enough) split cow skin, or commercially tanned deer or moose hide if you can find it.

I think that is vegetable tanned leather. I noticed it is not as heavy weight as I use which is 8 to 10oz. This looks like 6 to 8 oz vegetable tan leather. Tge thicker tge leather tge more likely to have to pre punch the soles with an awl comming through at an angle. Hard work.
