    Rumours abound that there is a work-print doing the rounds which has a longer running time than the theatrical cut? It might be a bonus disc on the 4K/blu-ray, but I can't find it on toz sites; anybody else got any ideas? ps. Saw this at the cinema on opening week in Australia back in October 1985; the audience really got into it, I was 15 then lol.

    You really made a big mistake about totally missing out on “Where the F is Santa Claus?” As another special they did, and it was really good. It was from 2008 too and Bam was still living the great life but that’s got to be one of the last years where his life was just like “the old days”. Plus most or all of the original cky crew was not in that one, just Brandon Novak and other random people.

    The 80s was the era of good horror films. It just has the most amount of good horror films, but compared to the 70s and 2010s there’s not as many as great horror films. It also has a shit ton of films that use “fun” to cover up for mediocrity and sanitized the genre that made it really boring. Half of the cult classics are boring as shit. Probably because I have a lot darker sensibilities than most, but horror fans saying it’s shit, but at least it’s not a bore like [insert modern slow burn horror movie] and I’m like, “that movie is way more boring.” I guess my ADHD makes me get bored with bad movies. People say the golden age of slashers ended in 1984, it died in 1982 when the most popular films were Friday the 13th Part 3 and Slumber Party Massacre heralding the end of dark slasher movies.

  • @generationwhyentertainment2455
    @generationwhyentertainment245514 күн бұрын

    @@thomasffrench3639 nah hard disagree. The late 80s slashers were the most solid as practical effects had peaked and the film they used looked cleaner. Not that the early 80s is without its charm. Personally I love slashers but I’m more of a sci fi horror guy anyway

  • @thomasffrench3639

    @@generationwhyentertainment2455 but the scripts, acting and writing were so much worse, and they acted more like poorly written comedy films than horror movies. At least early slasher films were more entertaining as they actually tried to write good stories and direct it well and weren’t so focused on effects. Then the goofy slashers came in and ruined it for everyone with their sanitized atmosphere and poor comedy without any grittiness which made them so boring And aside from Tom Savini slashers and Intruder, I cannot think of any that had awesome practical effects in the later 80s and Tom Savini stopped doing slasher films at that point. What movies are you referring to? And if I wanted cool kills, I would watch Rambo II or an Arnold Schwarzenegger movie, because most of them are way better. Day of the Dead and The Omen have better kills than most slasher movies. I never understood this obsession with kills unless you really want to make yourself sad by growing attached to these character then die, which I love doing. I also appreciate the realism it can add to the story.

    25:21 yeah I have a theory that Friday the 13th Part 4 was an inspiration for Kevin Williamson when he was writing for teen soap operas. Although I wouldn’t say they are better than all John Hughes movies, but I do think it’s better than the Breakfast Club at least, which is pretty overrated. Although I think Part 7 does a pretty bad job with it except for the love triangle between our main characters, because while nowhere near John Hughes or Part 4 level, it’s decent enough to get out of the boring teen shit at the other house.

    I never understood the appeal of Sleepaway Camp 2. It’s pretty bad and I couldn’t finish it. And to call this garbage better than Scream or Friday the 13th Part 6 is pretty laughable. The original Sleepaway Camp is nothing special either, but at least it is pretty entertaining.

    @@generationwhyentertainment2455 okay that makes sense for F13 Part 6, but that doesn’t explain Scream. I would say it falls under Disaster Movie rather than Airplane! If we are talking 80s teen movies, the original is a better parody of that than Sleepaway Camp 2.

    I will forever have a special place in my heart for this film with Hoskins and Leguizamo’s chemistry being a highlight. I like the movie for what it is and it’s based off arguably my favorite video game character ever. The criticism it got was a little too harsh. I said what I said of the first version of this I won’t or can’t repeat myself. The first Clerks, I haven’t seen in years, but I still remember me frequently replaying a scene due how well crafted the writing was. I liked the second one even though it’s a couple steps down. And the third one even tho it has its moments it was a bit too depressing for me. And there was no growth at all. I like the big “fuck you” moment Dante give to Randall, but the movie was such a negative departure from the ones that preceded it. Also, your off the cuff treatment for part 3 was exceedingly better than the schlock we had for part 3. I doubt I’ll ever watch it again. And I can’t watch part 2 anymore because it has Rosario Dawson in it. I had nothing against her and still don’t as a person, but I saw a film she made in 2007 and it scarred my perception of her. I just can’t stomach to look at her. Pretty much killed my rewatchability for 2. I’ll stick with the first one then, I guess. Later.

    I don’t think I’d ever make garbage angels due to finding garbage (especially other people’s garbage) disgusting. The part that always makes me laugh is Abe smoothly going in and out of the burlesque bar because he saw Bart. And 90s standards and practices were fairly “gay”. Big news. Also, although Ralph and Martin have no business being with each other, in the context of the show, the two make sense as a pair due to being portly, weird, dorky outcasts. That’s why I rarely watch Kung Pow, because even though it’s hilarious in my opinion my humor for it goes fairly stale on a couple of repeated viewings. You should review this film if you ever get the chance… or ever care too. It IS really funny. Lean is still a thing? Christ. There were some moments in the show that were uncomfortably phonic or possibly racist but generally the cultural critic punched up and was on point. Certainly a product of it's time, also tho Duckman many many many times hinted at our pointed out that he's bisexual, which is a mixed bag as an antihero. He's doing the work to normalize it however as I see it, and there's a lot of complex strong female characters. TBH, even a lot of the perverted weirdos are oddly humanized, which... gotta appreciate the complexity ✨

    I'm just going to point out how great one joke is, because nobody ever gets it. When Iggy an Spike come out of the evolution machine, one says a "transformation" has occurred, but the evolved one suggests it is more of a "transfiguration". The joke is that transfiguration is a religious concept, originally, and it refers to the evolution of a human soul becoming a spirit in heaven, or the divine manifesting on earth, it indicates a higher level of change than just the physical, which is what has happened. He's already aware of his higher potential spiritual awareness due to the intelligence boost, as he is now able to imagine a whole lot more and conceive of higher ethical and moral constructions, what many would say is the human quality that separates us from the animals. And they chose to express this awesome concept with a two line gag and not directly address any of it. This movie's greatest crime will always be it's wasted potential to have been so much more.
