    This is completely understandable. Out of all the fish you see in this video, we only have 2 remaining. This is even after treating all the fish for illness using our tried and true treatment plan. I am glad you have had better luck than us with Aqua Huna. Dan's Fish is really expensive for the quality you get. We have bought from them, and the 6 fish we received are all still alive. I would say that we produced around 1300 gallons of RO water the first year. We recently moved to a new state and have almost finished fully setting up our new fish room. In our new location we will most likely not use the RO device unless absolutely necessary. We decided to seek our and breed fish that work with the water we have available. The water here is a little harder than where we were in Ohio.

    What if your tank is heavily planted I’m worried I won’t be able to siphon up all the worms while using Fritz expel-p

  • @NoobAquatics
    @NoobAquatics3 ай бұрын

    We have several tanks that are heavily planted. It's OK to not siphon all if you do a total of three treatments. We tested this on two of the heavily planted tanks that had these worms and didn't siphon at all due to how many plants were in the tank and to this day the worms have not come back. Expel-P ends up killing the worms through permanent paralysis, the third treatment is to kill the newly hatched worms from the released eggs.

    great video! ive a question im planning to add old sachem black sand id on a tank I break down a couple years ago ill pour it on top of existing substrate (after rinsing it) can I do it or substrate already went wrong after these years? Thanks.

  • @NoobAquatics
    @NoobAquatics6 ай бұрын

    I don't seen anything wrong with using substrate from another tank, you can always try. After 3 years, the SeaChem Black Sand, because it is a porous clay gravel, it may be really soft and similar to dirt in its current condition. It could be a little difficult to rinse easily. If it had softened and broken down then there is another way you could add it. Depending on the amount of water/size of the tank, you can always reduce the water by removing it and putting it in a bucket or several buckets, and then adding the substrate into a smaller amount of water slowly. After you add all the substrate that you want into the tank, you can then return the original water back into the tank by diffusing it using a plastic bag or glass plate to keep the substrate from clouding up the water.

    I think the dosage of the Fenben wasn't strong enough? In the tank with Fenben you have snails. Fenben kills snails, so this telling me you didn't use proper dosage or Fenben was out of date.

  • @NoobAquatics
    @NoobAquatics7 ай бұрын

    The Fenben was dependent on the fish eating the food. So the FenBen was food based and the Levamisole was powder based in the water column. This method is less dangerous for the inverts in the tank. This was prepared by DiscusUSA and was not expired. Finding Fenben in powder form was not as easy at the time of this video. But, DiscusUSA does now sell FenBen in its powder form if you are wanting to chance the dosing. Even with the powder form, as we have tried that recently, it still seems to be less effective, so our main choice currently is Levamisole.

  • @brendaalent6464
    @brendaalent64648 ай бұрын

    It may not be a true comparison because Levy tank is bare bottom which you can get every worm, whereas the Fenben tank had gravel and eggs can always hide in it. Neverless i will still go with the levy . Thank you for the info

  • @NoobAquatics
    @NoobAquatics7 ай бұрын

    Maybe, but we were not as worried about the eggs. Yes, the eggs can cause a re-infection. But our main concern with this test is how well it worked in killing and/or expelling the worms in the fish. We found that Levamisole seems to remove the worms from the fish better, and the FenBen didn't do much to expell the worms already in the fish. One other issue is how both meds are delivered. We could only find FenBen on medicated fish food at the time of this video, and this required the fish to actually consume the correct amount of medicine. This made it really hard to get the fish properly medicated. The Levamisole was delivered in the water column as a powder and absorbed into the body. One thing we can say is that we are extremely pleased with how well Levamisole works, and after three full treatments, we have never seen any of the worms come back, even on the three tanks we did not gravel vac. DiscusUSA does sell the powder form of FenBen if you ever find that Levamisole isn't working.

    Hi, I would like to mineralize RO water to increase the KH level and also ensure a constant pH level of 6.5. I have Seachem Alkaline Buffer and Acid Buffer. The store advisor suggested that I buy the Brightwell Florin Delta KH+ product. Doesn't it have the same effect as Seachem? Secondly, will Seachem cause degradation of the active Master Soil Powder substrate?

  • @NoobAquatics
    @NoobAquatics9 ай бұрын

    We stick purely to Alkaline Buffer and Acid Buffer, what we like to do is add this to our water before a water change. These SeaChem products are a mixture of 3 different bicarbonate salts, because of this they tend to last longer on their ability to buffer the water. To maintain a pH of 6.5ish you will just follow the direction on the side of the bottle to target the correct pH. I would stay away from Brightwell Florin Delta KH+, this product is pure Baking Soda, nothing else. If you look at the ingredients on the side of the bottle you will see that it is Sodium Bicarbonate. Your better off just going to the store and spending a few dollars on organic baking soda. This is not a long term fix, and the buffering capabilities diminish too quickly. It also adds in too much Sodium, so if you are running a planted tank then this can become a problem for your plants and fish later. As to answer your last question, we are not too sure on any side effects with aqua soil. Most of our tanks are now dirt on the bottom or volcanic ash on the bottom and then capped with sand. Over time aqua soil ends up losing its nutrients, and you will eventually need to replace it or add in root tabs. You can always send an email to SeaChem to see if their products would cause any diminished returns on the aqua soil, from our experience we haven't noticed any issues.

Males tend to show colors, gill flash, and mouth wrestle a bit, but I have not seen any males battle it out to the death yet. But to answer your question, Yes, it is possible to have two pairs in a 55, but all fish have different temperaments and personalities, so if for some reason it doesn't work out, always have a backup plan on where you can put the more aggressive pair.
