I'm Chris, an old school VW modifier in the UK, follow me as I build all sorts of car projects!
You'll find on my channel, DIY how to's, much geek'ness and how I'm solving or modifying some of my projects, normally get more technical than needed! Always been in to VW based cars but love all sorts of challenges
Current Projects include
VW T5 Camper van
VW Corrado TDI conversion, with Air Con , ABS & ESP! building it to a high MPG spec motor, putting in some newer tech in 90's!
Porsche 914 2056cc
MK1 Golf Track built TDI
Having being one of the 1st in the UK to do a TDI conversion using mk4 lumps into a VW Golf mk2, I still like to give it a go and do things I've not done yet!

Okay so i manually took 12v from fog light that enables on key ignition and put onto black wire, and rest of your video I seem to get the same except the coolant sensor i get on specs. But my ISV is still not reacting! What could be wrong? I have jumped the isv while connected and bloody hell it noticed it works then, revved like crazy
Absolutely brilliant video. I'm convinced. Thanks a lot pal.
Glad you enjoyed it, makes a great improvement 👍
Thanks for your video. By far the best one for me on ply lining a van.👍
Glad you've found it useful, thanks 👍
Thanks
I thought the M.o.t. was every 2 years in greece ?
Having issues with mine and this has helped with where to start! Cheers 👍
Glad it's helped, thanks for feedback 👍
😂
Its summer, so heated seat essential in in the UK. Conveniently located power supply!! Short cable run. Fused I assume?👍😊
@@paulwhite2023 Indeed it all came together nicely in the end! Yes we have a fused link and realistically leisure battery always on charge whilst driving Thanks for the comment 👍
Is that not going to annoy you being different to the passengers side or have you a plan?
cool way to showe WHO is the king of the road :D
I have a plan...... just didn't mention it come to think of it! Needs bit of a retrim long term, just want everything right 1st
Interesting video. However, these head units apoear to be made in China. That country is guilty of atrocious war crimes and crimes against humanity. China is also launching cyber attacks against our hospitals, schools and defence infrastructure. They're also supporting Russia and are supplying them with arms, military components and expertise. I'll be looking to buy a European made head unit instead, if I can find one ...
I can see where your coming from, one reason I went with Xtron as the contact & main distribution is in Northwest of UK, which all my contact was with them amd I'm sure the website says designed in UK
Great video ,enjoyed the porcshe content 👌
Glad you enjoyed it, what an amazing journey we had. Cant wait our next trip as I'm watching the start of this year's. Porsche FTW!
Worn out watching the race and thats just fifteen minutes. Well done.👍
You'd best take the weight off your feet and chill 😌 Was a bit of a tiring trip even by our standards Glad you enjoyed
You made fitting that headliner a hard watch... use a bigger table, it would be so much easier for you. ALWAYS use oversized pieces. I get that its expensive, but if its trimmed within millimetres, it will shrink and pull itself apart....
I made it harder to do, your right 👍 I do find a couple of boxes ideal for moving about and my trusty workmate set-up is so oily I couldn't risk it Thanks for the input, we're all learning. many thanks 👍
BIG TIP, when the inner metal sleeve is removed from the bush remove the blade from a hacksaw, put blade into the old bush still in the wishbone, reattach the hacksaw to the blade and cut through any rubber left the through the outer metal part of the bush taking care not to cut into the wishbone itself, when cut through hammer and punch will knock out the old bush relatively easy.
Me watch, me scared to do hehe! Great work!
Rivetting video. I mean clipping video.😂😂😂. Looks a good finish on the roof, be interesting to see it face to face. Where did you source the suede with foam backing? A trim shop or general ebay market place msybe? Seven days and counting....👍
I did have to clip some of the footage ✂️😂 The material has made it so nicer than the planned carpet, which I'll say was a eBay purchase, enough spare for the Corrado
Great video as usual ,like the clips .well done.
Thanks, glad you enjoyed - magic clips make the difference to a tidy job
Hi! Nice video😅 you know to the t6? If yes…can you send the link to buy ?
Would you fit mine in My caravelle ?? Obviously I would pay you
I have just bought the xtrons Iq92mtvp
Brilliant video…thanks for sharing
Flippin' first class!
Right now my '89 16V won't start. There's fuel and there's spark, resistance at temp sensor is 1Kohm (at 20°c room temp), ISV inner resistance is roughly 4Kohm but there's no voltage at the ISV connector. ISV is clean and works when supplied voltage. Does this point to a bad control module?
Woher Haben Sie es gekauft?
Hi nice work .. did you get these from ebay? Thanks
Hi, thanks and there still working! Yes I did, there's a link in description which I suspect is still working, as I mentioned if buying again I wouldn't worry about a complete kit, I'd just get the lamp units on there own Many thanks for watching 👍
Können Sie mir bitte den link hier mit teilen? Hab es gesucht aber leider nicht gefunden Danke im Voraus Ich freue mich auf Ihre Rückmeldung
What about passing the mot with coil overs? Does the van handle better going around corners/roundabouts now? In retrospect would you say similar results could be achieved with lowering springs?
MOTs aren't a problem providing when fully jacked the spring still has loads, isn't rattling about. It handles so much better, way more responsive, don't get me wrong it's still a large tall vehicle with a high centre of gravity and not magically a go kart! 2 reasons I went for cheaper coil over kit over lowering springs, I suspected the shocks were tired, none were 'gone' . Lowering springs are good and many have a OEM feel but particularly with vans you need to know the weights, so a camper V empty makes a difference in stance at rear, hence ability to tweak it Couple brilliant questions 👍
Thanks:-)
Nice, thanks
I just replaced my stub on my T5 and oil seal while I was at it. It still loses 1.5 litres of fluid every couple of days. I don't understand. Great video though, good to see the stub end and shaft up close as it's hard to tell how far it needs to sit in there otherwise.
Well I'm glad the video helped, but gearbox is loosing that much oil, it must be pouring out! There has to be a very wet patch on the box, may benefit from a full jet wash and a short drive to locate Good luck 🤞
Excellent guide. I always say to make sure to tighten the bolts after the arm is in the correct position with weight on.
That's always best practice, yes it got relaxed and re torqued shortly after during a wheel alignment
Great video .
Thanks, it makes a great difference, smells of fresh clean wood!
Great video - Thanks
Given the all work required to put an interior together I'm expecting a daily video for 37 days! I vote for "tight northerner".😂
😂 not sure if I can keep up with expectations, but I'll see what I can do! Thanks for the vote, your probably right 👍
Good to see you back on stream Chris. I like the Corrado content and the T5 content too. Sad the Corrado doesn't get much traction compared to the van. Reflects peoples' interests I guess. Need more Vento coverage.🤣🤣🤣🤣
Thanks for the support Paul I totally agree if the Corrado isn't niche enough it's sensible cousin would make a perfect stable mate, if only I could find a low mileage nicely modified vento...... 😂😂😂
Mileage is all relative....ahem.😂😂😂
Legend thanks for your service
Here for the corrado content since I'm also building a TDI 'rado.
Great to hear, makes so much sense as conversions go. There will be more.....👍
Take the bulb 💡 out of the engine management light on the corrado 😅
😂😁 if only it was that easy, still goes into limp if I sneeze 🤧
@@CrispysProjects turn it off and back on again 😅 we need more corrado videos . Did you get the ac working ?
@@stevenharpervw 😂I've mastered which parts of the busy motorway to cruise while turned off , incident free AC worked, but needs a leak tracing before re gassing, before the summer would be nice 😎
I bet you miss your deadline😂
Let's hope not, I have a lot planned 😂😉
KZread csn be a bit thankless at times but finding the projects interesting and really appreciated your knowledge on the 16v Golf a while back. Hoping you keep sharing the content.. On a separate note, i have an android head unit fitted to an older car and found the display kinda clashed with the rest of the dash. I found a launcher on the playstore which let's you customise the home display to match its surroundings. Think the one i used was AGAMA in case you're interested.
Your right Dave, very thankless hobby, but just as fun in many ways I'm sure many have made videos 'Life after KZread' which are never published 😂 I'll make a note of that and look into the android add in, I do like tweaking things if you haven't gathered that 😲🤣
No mate, told you to post a video .keep it up post some interesting repair guides .keep it up.!
Thanks @marvelwear I'm sure I've a few good ideas or conversions, let's get though the back log 😲😂
Was wondering what had happened to you and Le Mans 😂
Thanks, appreciated. So much on as life happens, hopefully back on it! Had to rename the Van 2 LeMans series
Excellent video, instructions for a starter rebuild!
Hi, I hope you're in good spirits. I have an inquiry: At the 4:40 mark, you observe a hexagonal bolt. This bolt in my equipment is seeping oil. Could you enlighten me on the purpose of this bolt? Furthermore, is it feasible for me to unscrew it to substitute the O-ring?
Nice Where u located I need check mine, having bad start.sometimes take me 30 min to start
I. Have a t5. Brilliant van
Nice video, the screen looked like it reflects a lot which is common for glass & the Vw t5s due to screen angle, I went for a Sony unit as I wanted anti glare screen, physical buttons for volume etc (as older T5 doesn’t have on steering) and wireless apple car play, plus I’d rather spend a bit more & don’t trust Chinese electronics in my van!
Good working bro 😊😊
thanks for doing this, just what I needed!
Polly bushes much better loads easier to fit
Your right poly bushes easier to fit by loads, I've found them too stiff in road cars, didn't want to have a harder ride in the van Thanks for the input, appreciated 👍
Cheers for the explanation. Do you know how much different it is to do the rear bearing of a 4motion? Thanks
Hi Ollie, I believe there the same bearing - part numbers on mine wah same front & rear, you just need to pull the CV joint/shaft out 1st Good luck and hope the video helped 👍
would you not expect fluid to come out when your remove the shaft - and having to top the oil level back up again ?
Great question, No you shouldn't get fluid come out. The full level on these boxes in below the output flange seal Hope that helps, but yes you always check your levels particularly if the vehicle is new to you or there is a leak Thanks for the comment 👍
Nice vid! Ive got a XTRONS in my Camper for quite some years now, while I´m over all very satisfied and would recommend a XTRONS unit any time I´m struggling with sunlight readability of the IPS Screen used in mine quite a lot ( wich is a pain when traveling abroad and using the sat nav). Therefore I´m thinking about upgrading to a newer version, especially the one you use. Can you share your experience with the readability of the QLED Screen used in this unit? I would expect the Readability to be much better even when the sun is bright and shining into the dashboard to some extend. Any thoughts to share?
Thanks for the comment, it's a great unit but I agree the angle of the unit in the T5 makes it harder to see, mine is in permanent dark mode, the apps that run in android day colours is so much easier to see, I would like to try a sun screen as it still difficult to see but that's a combo of the angle, matt screen finish and dark mode and that the only bad thing I can say
