This was truly an inspiring podcast. Im a new veiwer, but when I heard kurt was going to be on this episode I was shaking in my boots with excitement! His visions and expression when it comes to his art makes me feel better about not having a an when I throw pottery.

@@CarterPottery I was part of the youth circus that went to the apy lands to put on shows and do workshops. It was the most amazing trip and has inspired me to learn some of the language . We even got to go and see the big waterfall which I had no idea existed out there , I can honestly say I've never met a bunch of people more welcoming would really love to come back some day and do some more workshops and shows been performing professionally for 30 years now.

What kind of underglaze are you using?
@CarterPottery5 жыл бұрын
Hello Mackenzie, I'm using Chrysanthos underglazes. When I moved back to the U.S. I started using Amaco underglazes, which are really nice as well.

Its decorated with ceramic under glazes. The final color is aided by the clear glaze that is applied on top.

Hamada used a hand wheel, not a kick wheel. The head of the hand wheel is about twice as wide as that of a kick wheel, and it is turned with a stick. Electric wheels, gas kilns, and refined materials were certainly available while Hamada was still working, but he chose the older ways because they fit his aesthetics and philosophy. His early ceramic training included significant research on glaze composition; he knew a tremendous amount about the technical aspects of ceramic science but preferred to work with traditional materials and methods because of their natural beauty.

This video is very good but what is a light porcelain slip?
@CarterPottery8 жыл бұрын
+Michelle Bell In the video I use a porcelain slip from Jingdezhen, China. You can also use this technique with any white slip that fits the clay and firing temperature that you are using.

Hello Disisdkat, I got an email with a question from you on applying the slip but I can't find that comment to reply to. To answer your question, "When do you apply the slip and the underglaze (wet, leather hard, bone, bisque)?" I pour, or dip, on a deffloculated slip when the pots are leather hard. This wets the pot down. I then let it dry back to leather hard again before I apply the underglaze and sgraffito around it. If you have any other questions feel free to ask. Thanks for watching.
