I am officially a new subscriber and I wanted to let you know I love that you have 50 years of experience and the way that you covered the m6 Mark II was amazing I have the three prime lenses by sigma and I've been a fan of the EOS m series but wanted to take better advantage of the glass. I recently ordered the m6 Mark II from b&h and your video was very informative which makes me feel a lot better about the purchase I made. I'm an amateur photographer but I love it and once again your video was so relatable and I really like the fact that you have the experience and yet you kept it simple and easy for people like me to understand. I look forward to your videos that you come up with in the future and I am definitely a subscriber now.

Hello Mr. Wagner, I would like to give you my opinion, without intending to bother you, regarding the contamination of the 35 mm film developing and printing process. I imagine that when you were working with these 35 mm systems it never occurred to you to think about how polluting it was, nor do I think that now young people think about how polluting it is to make digital cameras, 80% of which are made of plastic and are renewed cas models annually, or how expensive and polluting it is to extract some of the precious metals they contain, nor do we think about the liters of water necessary to make a single pair of jeans and the subsequent contamination of the water used, nor about how polluting it is. is massive livestock farming, etc. That doesn't mean we are going to stop buying digital cameras, the 35mm ones, even the cheapest ones, were made of metal in their time, in my time the cheapest ones were already made of plastic and in many cases with few electronic components, I don't think we are going to walking naked down the street because of the polluting and exorbitant waste of water generated by the textile industry, nor will we stop eating meat, etc. etc I think it is not a good option to advocate now that cinema is re-emerging against digital because of how polluting it is, now that this photographic system is a minority in the market, I think it is not fair to advocate for pollution or burden consciences of people who are beginning to discover 35 mm photography. Otherwise I think you contribute a lot to photography with your page. A cordial greeting. Jose Antonio.

Thank you for a very thought provoking comment. Unfortunately, technology advancement can produce a lot of waste. This is certainly true for electronics and you are right, there are lots of precious metals extracted from horrible mines in Africa that are used to make these devices function.

I still have the GX1, debating selling it as I find my Olympus E-PM2 is a little better, more compact, better at jpegs, and also has IBIS although the E-PM2 controls are a bit trickier than the nice switches and buttons of the GX1. The E-PM2 was a Mini though, built more as a compact camera replacement with more sophistication than a P+S, whereas the GX1 was an enthusiast mode. Have you tried any of the Olympus alternatives to the GX1 like the E-PM2 or more likely the E-PL5 or E-P5? Olympus made some great bodies with IBIS that took Panasonic a few more years to catch up to, and adding the Lumix 20 1.7 lens to the IBIS equipped bodies is an extra win. Thanks for the video.

I have a PEN EP-5. It has the advantage of sensor based image stabilization. I also like the fact that the screen pops out on an angle. It is a little bigger and heavier than the GX1 and generally more expensive used, but it is a better camera. I shot b&w film in college and now shoot all digital. My favorite aspect of film was using a fully mechanical system, knowing that the shutter, aperture, timer, and all that was driven from cranks, gears, etc was so cool! I still have my Pentax k1000 from back then. I have dug it out of storage and will see if I still enjoy it enough to justify the cost. I’d love to own a F-1 because you can remove the prism and see how the thing works from both sides. I love having stuff like that around, to show people. I’ve seen this camera for $500 too. Unbelievable. The G9 was marketed as the Panasonic flagship photography camera. Being a Panasonic there are a lot of video features. The depth from defocus (DFD) is very good for photography. The camera locks onto the subject quickly and accurately. DFD isn’t so sticky for video. The focus sometimes looses lock and then drifts. The IBIS feels like it is more than five stops of stabilization . II easily can hand hold and capture an image at 1/2”. Add an OIS lens and you get dual stabilization for about seven stops. This is unbelievable. The lens choice is quite large. Panasonic and Zuiko lens are interchangeable but only the camera’s brand lens has full functionality. There are also third party lenses worth looking at. Two lenses in particular are worth note. The 12-35 & 35-50 f2.8 lenses are all you really need. Small. Lightweight. Sharp. Fast. Reasonable price. Yes the Panasonic-Leica 12-60 is a very good lens. It starts out fast at f2.8 but quickly stops down to f4. I love the Panasonic primes. The Panasonic-Leica lives on my GX9 for street photography. The Panasonic G9 is a true bargain for photography and/or videography. It is inexpensive and a powerful tool. The choice of glass is very good. The DFD is more than adequate for everyday use. A minor negative for some is that the body is somewhat large for a M43 body. This doesn’t translate to a heavy body. I purchased this body new when first released and have used it a lot. I wish I could have purchased the body at current prices. I love this body and wholeheartedly recommend it for any video or photography user. Mask On Nurse Marty (Ret)

Thanks for the tip on the back focus lock. Interestingly, much of pro video is shot with manual focus lenses. Auto focus speed and locking capability is a big talking point that really only matters to certain people. For those who can live with the G9's autofocus will get an incredible camera for the price.

To make it clear with the focus issues on that camera, and Panasonic cameras in general prior to the G9 II: this is only related to video mode. There is no focus problem in photography mode. On the contrary the G9 has some unique focus assist tools that makes it very fast to acquire on a subject. It is called FarShift and NearShift focus. With the shutter half pressed you engage NearShift focus and the camera will focus on the nearest object in the focus area. You have to set a dedicated button for this but the G9 has lots of buttons and even digital ones. As for digital buttons the LCD screen is full touch and the menu is comprehensive. Panasonic cameras are easy and enjoyable to operate.

The M is my main camera for personal work, but it has its limitations, so I took a G9 that was still lying around in our studio together with the gorgeous Leica 12-60 and I can use it for videos and whenever I need a more flexible platform than the full manual M. With the adapted 50 Summilux (100mm equiv.) I also have an awesome portrait setup. It’s a $4500 lens on a $500 camera and yet it feels totally perfect. The G9 is still amazing…

I have two M4/3 bodies, but they don't have this feature and there have been two times where I was out and it began raining, so I had to quickly hide my camera under my coat, it was ok. But, that got me thinking that it would be nice to have a body where I wouldn't have to stress so much about the weather suddenly shifting. I had considered a G80/85, but for the same price can get a used G9. I can't justify a G9ii at 2000€!!!

My life has always included photography as a hobby with the only work I got paid for being in skydiving still using film but going to digital when it came out. When I retired and the crazy active side of life came to an end I picked up a mint F-1, several viewfinder options and a few lens to "take my time"with. With adapter and L series lenses it becomes a monster! The video side is also discreet and by choosing a neutral profile it produces files that are very workable in post production even if we are not talking about 10 bit; it's really a shame that Canon has decided to discontinue the M series; perhaps not even Canon had understood its potential!

The SV doesn't have internal light metering and doesn't use a battery while the SPII is one of the first to have TTL metering. A battery for it is available and costs about $3. I also bought a digital light meter that mounts on the camera's hot or cold shoe for about $30 with shipping. It can function as a reflective but also as an incident light meter. Take it out and bought a Colorplus 200 for it. Now, four years later. I personally enjoy the "Experimental" side of it: the modification and repair on the lens and body aswell as the films, especially older expired one. Did i regret it after getting a Canon 6D? Nope not at all. The entire fun of Analog photography is the experimental like i said before and the community. Today it's just another hip and trendy and i gotta admit hate it with a passion especially the rising price. For me, Film as a primarily will never be. It will be a hobby, a curiosity and love for me and a few others. Their time has passed but not with me

I just bought the kit to develop black and white film. I am going to give it a try and will report back.

Thank you for great message! I get asked these same questions all the time. Really love the insight about human vision being panoramic.

The second version of the 14 42 kit lens is smaller and sharper than either the 14 45 or the first version of the 14 42 from reviews I've read. I use it on my GX1 and G5 Lumix bodies. Stabilization is good too. About $100-125 used unless it's already become over inflated like most photo gear in the last 2 years. Good review of the G6, the G5 was almost as good and even cheaper on the used market. Both the G5 and G6 were forgotten because the G7 had some 4k capabilities.

Seeing in 3D is a great point! The reason I still shoot with a 0:41 camera or my medium format cameras is that I love the 3D look in the view finder and the slide on my light table. For us old guys it's like looking at images with the old ViewMaster. I struggle after scanning to a digital image because the image is converted to a 2D image. And, I love shooting with b&w film and in b&w mode when I shoot w with my digital camera.
