Man, Circuit City hasn't been around for decades in my area. I remember being 7 or 8 the last time I went into one of those before did a clearance at ours and shut it down.

The government and big tech want us to stay home sit on the couch and order online. The American way I grew up in is fading away for the evil new world order to take hold of this nation.

Great video!!! 🤗❤️🤗❤️🤗❤️ I don't remember when I lived in Elgin, Illinois if I ever drove down this this mall to visit it. Since I'm in Rockford, Illinois I couldn't get to see this last days/day of this mall because of car problems and my husband's change of is schedule of him working 4 days of the week from 7:00pm to 7:00am but it's so sad to know another well known mall in my home state of Illinois is closing up just so sad. ☹️☹️☹️

Thank you for this final tour before this beautiful mall shuts its doors for good. I’m feeling really sad as you walked through the mall and take shots inside the closed stores. Just sad and even numb. This is such a beautiful mall. The architecture and design are just beautifully done. I hope they don’t demolish some of the building with the beautiful wooden columns, and wood panels on the ceilings. This building once had full of life. I just can’t imagine this building being demolished. I’m just utterly sad. Even though I’m not from the Chicago area. I’m sad about a lot of malls being closed down because of multiple reasons. But the reason that struck me the most is the poor management of the owners. They didn’t do anything to revive this mall. Just sad🙁

Thank you for recording and chronicling the last days of Stratford Square Mall. This was the mall I grew up with and had a ton of great experiences and memories of. It's a shame to see not only this mall, but so many malls not being able to survive and thrive nowadays. I suppose it's all part of the passage of time. I visited on April 15th 2024, the last Sunday before the mall closed it's doors to the public. It was a rush of both nostalgia and melancholy. There was a ton of people also visiting that day and soaking in the last memories of this mall. I went around remembering all what stores used to occupy many of the spots, what the anchor stores used to look like, and how bustling and lively it was on the weekends and close to the holidays. I'm glad someone else is really appreciating Stratford for the wonderful experiences it once held.

I grew up in this mall and haven't been there in years since i moved to Florida.. My Aunt & uncle just called to tell me that they took their final walk through there tonight before its demolished soon. I knew youtube would have at least one urbex video of it. This video is incredible!! thank you for sharing this.

It's sad that shopping malls are a dying breed today, thanks in part to the advent of online shopping. I have to admit I love that retro video game store at 2:23, especially since it has statues of Mario and Sonic in it.

Crime I think. The Walmart 4 minutes away, not in Aurora, wasnt built until way after this one closed. was Ames before it was Walmart. They need to do something with Aurora west side.

The first malls were open air & then in the 1980's they enclosed the malls. Kid's would hang out in the Malls & or the parks - no cell phones so parents did not track you. Now people can buy anything on Amazon etc. Kid's barely leave the house. Malls were nice at Christmas Time.

I keep thinking that it was just yesterday this mall still had some life but then reailze I was last there in 2017. That was before Carson Pirie Scott closed and I would always enter the mall through Carson's. I heard that the FYE store lasted nearly until the end but finally shut down because the mall turned the heat off. When I still lived in Illinois I kept going here no matter how dead it was getting because I remember how great this mall used to be.

My town has two malls. One is dead but was never really alive to begin with. The other which is on the newer side, late 2000s, was bumpin then and still constantly bumpin now. Including PC Penney.

Namdar Reality Group (the previous owners) killed this mall. They have a track record of being a $2.7 billion retail slumlord and they neglect every mall they own. They got sued from the Village of Bloomingdale for it and Namdar lost the mall. The village of Bloomingdale is gonna redevelop the property. Before Namdar bought the mall, it was doing fine. Thats why it’s dead now.
