Welcome to my channel. I don't have a set topic, but instead try to make videos on things I find interesting. The content of my videos mostly focuses on computer projects, my cats, product reviews, and how to videos. I try to have a daily video scheduled every day at noon CST. You are basically getting a poorly curated glimpse at my day to day life. I sometimes take video requests if it is something that I can reasonably do.
My main job is electronics recycling and wholesale. That is part of what funds my ability to make these videos.

Thanks for the video, man. I just got a similar one manufactured by HP. It just does not have the black plate on the back. I still did not remove the heatsink to repaste it but I have opened the top frame and removed a lot of lint that was between the fan and the fins. Believe me, your card is very nice compared to mine... Looking at your video encoraged me to try the repaste, it is reaching 70 degrees Celsius idle.
Yeah lint doesn't help things. Thankfully these older cards aren't too bad to take apart. Some of the newer ones are a pain though.

Thanks for this excellent video digging into the PL units. I'm curious about the 15amp fuse on the front - would you happen to know that part #? I believe I need to replace one that is cosmetically broken, but still working.

That first one around 2:03 was interesting. Onyx came running in, tail going. It seemed like he was just feeling zoomy and looking for someone to go at. But for a second I wondered if something else had riled him, like a sound or something outside. Though I strongly suspect he was just being zoomy (like a goofball).

"Seems like they broke it up pretty fast thankfully." I think you hit the most important point right here. There will always be little scuffles, so it's important for them to be able to deescalate. In some fights I saw before, things spiraled out of control. Now, they seem chill around each other, and are able to have a chase without it turning into a full-out brawl. After working so long to get them back together, it's GREAT that they can get along so well. Good job guys!

FYI, when googling for the GPU cable for a R720, your videos are about this only thing that gets kicked back (other than sales links). I've watch both so far but what I really need is a pinout map of the original dell cable. Any chance you could make that pinout diagram and maybe put it in the description? (specifically I need the pinout of the 6 pin to power a Quadro P4000)
@@Brandon_Behnen if the P4000 uses PCIe power any of the random R730 GPU power cables for sale online should work just fine. Just make sure they have the jumper wire on the riser side if you want to be able to use it in a R730 down the road.
DP/older HDMI are both pretty bad, but DP is worse. Sometimes all you have to do is flip the cable and use the opposite end. I remember getting a box of DP cables at an office and they only worked when plugged in a certain direction, this was back in 2013.
@@TenshiHinanawi-uq3oy weird that they worked better one way over the other. I don't think I have had any issues with HDMI but I've been running DVI and VGA for the longest time.

I heard somewhere that the DisplayPort standard doesn't have the locking tab as part of the standard. So if it has the locks, thats on the cable manufacturer. I haven't had many issues with DP personally.
@VialiSamuhagu weird. Never knew that. I go through hundreds of PCs every year. Unfortunately many of them are going DP only so starting to see more issues.
The locking mechanism is dumb in general, what about for people with poor grip strength, like the elderly or disabled that cant press it properly?

Just don't buy cheap ass cables. Or just cheap ass anything for your computer. Been using DP over HDMI for years and never had a single issue.
@@00wheelie00 honestly even expensive cables can cause issues. I forget if it was DisplayPort. But I remember LTT getting a cable tester and a bunch of their cables were junk.
@@computersales I can see that happening. I mean people sell 5000 dollar hdmi cables, because the image is supposedly better and plenty of fools fall for it. But that's not what I buy. I buy Ivanky cables or similar for 15-20 euro instead of some chinese no name for less than 10. I never buy a longer cable than I absolutely need and neither me nor a couple of dozens of people I built systems for have ever had a displayport(cable) issue. I havent used HDMI on anything but TVs since Displayport's been around. Technically you're right, a bad displayport cable gives much more issues than a bad HDMI cable. But I'd rather know I have a bad cable rather than have intermittent display issues to troubleshoot.
@@00wheelie00 I'd rather have intermittent display issues over computer crashes due to bad cable personally. The average person won't realize the cable is their problem and may end up unnecessarily replacing PC parts or have important data corrupted by the time they figure out what is going on.
As a long time hater of DisplayPort I agree. Just use Hdmi they never should have adopted this stupid standard.
@@enderland5914 the only reason they did is because it can push more bandwidth than HDMI if I understand correctly. I'd really like to see a better standard replace DP though.
@@computersales And HDMI Forum just flatout refuses to support Open Source. AMD can't make HDMI 2.1 OS Linux drivers because the refuse to license it.

@@computersales Oh absolutely, and now we have a whole generation that grew up believing it's normal when you buy hardware that the manufacturer can dictate what software you can run on it too. (Looking at you Apple and console manufacturers) Somehow they have convinced the courts that accesscontrols are copyprotections. Even though these measure will never stop a perfect disc copy from someone with a press from running, but will block completely legal OS software from running on your property.

Those tend to be less problematic thankfully.
My guess is Folks forget about the Locking mechanism and start pulling harder&harder till it slips out anyways, but by that time there's already some Damage done ... Many Dells I work with come only with DP and I had very few Issues - but I always knew disconnecting the Cable helps sometimes with Boot Issues

Perfect timing. I'm running my firewall on an HP thin client, and yesterday I upgraded the NIC to an intel 10gb. OPNsense was reporting 80-90c operating temps. I couldn't figure out why the heat output was so high when the NIC is known for running at a lower wattage and cooler temp. I finally traced it down to the DisplayPort connecter. I was using a screen and running local console to reconfigure my settings. As soon as I unplugged the DP cable, the temps went down to 45c. Not sure if it's the built in DP GPU or what, but that DP connection caused me grief.
@@illstateofmind yikes crazy DP can screw up temps too. I wonder if it was somehow increasing CPU temps by having communication issues over DP.

ha-ha-ha.......silence, small talks....ha-ha-ha...would have been better to simply show us the mapping pin by pin side by side, so the other DIY guys could do it with no hassle...would you be so kind as to do so? riser side starting from p1 goes to p? on P40 and so on, please? (I also have one OEM cable, which is completely not matching to the ones I bought - the profiles of the hausing is not matching to the P40)
@@rossengeorgiew9589 I think I show my printed diagram of the pin out on each end facing the front of the connector. That is really all you need to when making the cable.
@@computersales it is not actually showing which pins are connected to which corresponding pins on the other side and I am like...watching my new dell R730 with 2 P40s like a big stone, even if I do have some ebay cables and only need the correct routing. Please help!
@@rossengeorgiew9589 honestly the only thing that really matters is the jumper. As long as you have ground going to ground and 12v going to 12v it will be fine. One of the ground and 12v will need to be split into 2 wires since you are going from 3 pins of each on the riser to 4 pins.

When will the squishy boyes interact unsupervised?
They have been unsupervised at night for a couple days in a row now. Technically right now supervised is not too accurate during the day since I check on them rather than watch them full time. Not really sure what to change the title to, to make it more accurate.
