  Somewhere in there an old wooden office door should open and on the other side in an old office filled with floral behind an old wooden desk with an old mechanical adding machine on top it would be nice to see Stanley Bard , doing well and smileing . The Chelsea Hotel has never been the same without him .

  This is the very place where the hotel scenes of the 1972 Billy Wilder movie 'Avanti!', starring Jack Lemon and Juliet Mills, were shot. Though the movie's plot is unfolding on the famous nearby island Ischia, Wilder was unable to find an adequate hotel there, and decided that Excelsior Vittoria in Sorrent would be perfect. Still, Ischia is highly recommend as a hollyday location. I have been there twice already.
