"I’ll never forget the time I called OH on the phone and his producer, Brown Eyes, told me he was out walking his cat and that he would call me back when he came back inside and he did indeed call me back." not mine, taken from another comment elsewhere, much love from the shenandoah valley

It might be just me, but I think I hear a Mickey Newbury influence on this song. Not a damn thing wrong with that...🥃

The redpill is that Bruce Springsteen was singing sad and based songs in a way that sounded like standard stadium music

I remember Ian from way back in like elementary or middle school, I believe. It's so wild to see someone from your area make it big. He's such a talent. It makes me happy to see him representing Eastern Kentucky's people the way he has, and I can't wait to see how far he goes.

They got the farmhouse burning, watched it burn to the ground Smoke filled the horizon just two miles from town There was no need to worry, there was no one who'd care It was a dog den where good men were rare With the wheels on the highway through the cold autumn rain Out came the pistols and a book full of names Thumbing each one who'd sing out the words Facing hard time is an old junkie curse On down between the country Where deer lay along the road On down between the country Where a long life is a blessed one, I'm told When they caught up with Henry, he was out in his yard Splitting that beechwood before the winter hit hard Laid a bullet in his back, watched him drop like a rock And come to rest 'cross that old chopping block Anne Carol ran the uppers from the laundry downtown Played online poker when there was no one around And except for a few strays in the dead parking lot Not a soul heard the thud or the shot On down between the country Where deer lay along the road On down between the country Where a long life is a blessed one, I'm told ❤❤❤❤

I am not a big Springsteen fan - but this song is one of his best compositions - and this cover of it is amazing - much better than the original --- Springsteen's "Ghost of Tom Joad" is also an awesome composition - totally reimagined in an amazing cover by Rage Against the Machine

Feels dirty and real like VanZandt...makes me feel like nobody and everbody loves me all at now. God looks after "Drunks And Fools." Somedays, i have risen from the "dead", as both. Sorry, for the faint of heart, i laughed, with the rest of yall.

America practices all 14 defining characteristics of fascism and it's songs like this that remind me of that. The characteristics that stand out the most is their obsession with national security, identifying their enemy (usually communists), and supremacy of the military, and an obsession with crime and punishment. Since WW2, America has always been at war with someone, always found a way to continually pump money into the military and the corporations that manufacturer for them, but how many victories have the USA actually had since WW2? Korea was a flop, resulting in a stalemate. Vietnam was a flop. The USA withdrew. The Cold War was a decades long bluff. Gorbachev discussed with Reagan that he wanted both USSR and USA to dismantle a significant portion of their nuclear weapons but Reagan's arrogance prevented that from ever happening, unable to accept that the "enemy" wanted to do something that was objectively good. If Reagan were to go along with such plans then there would no longer be an enemy to identify. The war on terror has had no clear victory and the war on drugs hasn't been a success either given that drugs have won. If a nation truly has freedom, why would they ever need such a large military? Living in constant fear is NOT freedom. Iceland sets an excellent example, a country with no military and some of the best living standards in the world.

His lyrics hard like a sledgehammer, where it matters, there's something real there, that can't be fabricated where death and betrayal and the longing for something more than what we got in this life. found in the palisades where there's no other place to hide, there's a beauty that withstands and lets up hold close those we need the most.
