Most of these tips, we are already doing as my husband and I are getting ready to sell our house. Our current house is only 4 years old (we now need a bigger house) but the builder didn't leave us any paint for touch ups, so we went to Sherman Williams paint store and they were able to match our 4 year old walls with an exact shade and color. We have never painted our walls but the paint has aged and thus, needed an exact match. My tip is to find a paint store with a computerized system for matching paint color if you only need to touch up the walls. My husband did have to cut a small hole in the wall behind the fridge (and then, repaired that hole) to bring a sample of the paint color to the paint store. But it was worth it, to get the exact color for touch ups. And now, our walls look great for viewing our house. Please wish us good luck in selling our home!

Holli, I'm looking at both Georgia and Alabama from a retirement perspective (I'm about 5 years away from moving). Both states offer very generous tax incentives to retirees (unlike my state of Wisconsin, which offers for the most part nothing). But just looking at Georgia for the time being, from a cost of living and climate perspective, I would have to choose South Georgia. From a climate perspective, I've had my fill of winters (I'll take the 95 degree temperatures with 100+ degree heat indexes over wind chills of -30 degrees). From a cost of living perspective, my retirement dollars will stretch further in South Georgia. If I want to go to the beach, I can be in Panama City or Destin in 2-3 hours (depending on traffic) if I'm in South Georgia (more like SW Georgia; Gulf Shores, AL would be about 3 1/2 to 4 hours depending on traffic). I'm close enough to the beach that I can drive there in a decent amount of time, yet I'm not in the bullseye of a hurricane as I would be if I lived on the coast. I can always drive to the Apple Festival in Ellijay or Octoberfest in Helen if I chose to do either one (I know there are plenty of festivals throughout the state during the year). I had to take Florida off my retirement list, partly for the hurricanes, but mostly because I was priced out of the state.

Sounds like you’ve really thought it through. Yes, it’s hard to beat GA for the climate and great cost of living. 🙌🏻

@@movingyalltogeorgia Something I forgot to mention the first time is that being in that part of the Deep South is that I'll probably stick out like a sore thumb with my northern accent (maybe less so with some of the military bases nearby) as that area doesn't probably have a lot of northern or midwestern retirees.

Yes your accent will stick out. The great thing about the south though is that you will still be very welcomed and most folks will be hospitable to you regardless of where you are from. Come on down! We’re ready to welcome you!
