Hello, this is the cannibal hotline. We will serve you as soon as possible.

I'm an old, sarcastic, cynical and pessimistic Finnish female, a collector of many, many things, including but not limited to books, Swarovski crystal figurines, automatons, antiques and many strange things. I live in a large, old and very strange house with my husband Mikko. An all-around curious person with way too many interests. My major at university was history.

    These are the water lili candle holders that I spoke in your previous video ! They are very sparkling, I love them. Your room is amazing, I collect Swarovski and books too, especially old books which are gorgeous with gold on the side, I don't know if I'm very clear.

  • @KMLautanen

    Yes, they are <3 I like them more than I thought I would, since I originally told myself I wouldn't collect the household decor items and limit myself to figurines only. Oh well... I kinda want to see how they look when lit by a candle, but then again the heat and dripping wax might ruin them, so I might have to see if there's a realistic tiny LED-candle in correct size and shape, these are too small for LED tea lights they usually offer. I love books too! And antique gilded books are so lovely. I have a few, but for us, books are because of their contents and not just appearance, since we're both voracious readers. A lot of our collection is non-fiction about our areas of education and our various interests, but there's also quite a lot of fiction in there, all things we want to read several times. I think at some point I need to do a library tour, since the room includes a lot of strange things and oddities.

    Rosaline refers to colour, but yes, there's a lot of similarities. It's a waterlily too, but I love this figurine so much more. There's just so much detail in it, the centre too. The video just doesn't do justice to its beauty.

    Thank you! <3 I'll definitely buy the SCS Gouldians ASAP, unless my husband wants to surprise me with one of them before I do. I've pushed their purchase back to after mid-August since I wanted to make sure we wouldn't accidentally buy duplicates, and the anniversaries of our wedding and engagement are coming soon. They're incredibly lovely, we certainly agree on that.

    Thank you! <3 The collection room/library contains many of the things near and dear to us. We spend any spare time we have reading, and since our interests vary greatly, we have a massive selection of non-fiction from physics to history and archaeology to mathematics. When we're not reading, we're building or designing stuff or taking things apart to see how they work. Thus the collection room is much like a heart of the house and our own hearts are built into it.

    Thanks for the compliment <3 I can certainly recommend eBay first and foremost. The selection is good, the feedback system useful and there's a wide array of prices if you're patient. Always use Paypal, and you'll have the guarantee of their money back-policy if you encounter a scammer. Facebook and its specialist groups are rife with scammers, unfortunately, but you can do some rally great and rare finds if you make sure to pay with Paypal or do a local pickup. Those are the easiest. Then there are local auction houses that liquidate collections and estates, and you can sometimes strike a great bargain there. Sites like Poshmark are available only inside USA, and I've heard that some people have found Swarovski from Etsy as well. Then there are some specialist used Swarovski resellers like N&P Swan Ltd or The Crystal Lodge. :) Good luck with your collection!

    Swarovski creeps in your brain and takes over. It's like a sparkly cordyceps for humans, and I fully expect one day we'll all have sparkly brains. In my worst period I couldn't leave home during major discount seasons without a phone and was constantly scrolling through sales lists and refreshing sales pages. My husband was quite vexed :D I got my first non-Swarovski figurine as just a child, then I got a true Swarovski figurine from my ex in... I think 1997, perhaps 1996? Then my current husband, then boyfriend, bought me one in 1999, and began to to buy a larger figurine for our anniversaries, birthdays etc, and that's how it snowballed. I intended to collect just birds and flowers first, and then slowly expanded with "perhaps I'll just collect a couple of those animals" to "just one of each of those annual ornaments because I so love snowflake shapes" to "I know I said I hate Lovlots but that is just too cute aaaargh mustbuy". There are larger collections than mine too, with 2000 or 3000 figurines, but maybe mine will be as impressive, one day :D

    00:43 happens the same here in Chile, the shipping box is bigger than the figurine box and they dont put any padding

  • @KMLautanen
    @KMLautanen4 ай бұрын

    I've noticed it too. Swarovski's shipping boxes now seem to come with just a couple of bigger plastic air bubbles, which is usually fine because their packaging is pretty well designed, but some of the designs are just so fragile it's not enough. I've also heard people say that this year's Annual Edition Ornament, for example, has a new type box which seems cheaper quality. It's cheap-flation: Swarovski has upped their prices (apparently in a strategy to attempt to become a luxury brand) but the cheaper packaging is not a good sign.

  • @KMLautanen
    @KMLautanen5 ай бұрын

    Definitely. The membership gifts have usually been nice (if you don't count the paperweights), and some nice loyalty gifts over the years too, but these last three years with the sitting baby animals - the giraffe, the zebra and now that cheetah - have been such a miss that it might as well have been a shot with a faulty rifle by a legally blind person aiming at a moving coin from 1000 yards while riding a drunk camel.

  • @KMLautanen

    @CupheadCL You need to be a Swarovski Crystal Society member for three years and buy the SCS Annual Edition piece for every one of those three years. Currently the 3-year membership costs 119€, and this year's annual exclusive piece costs 680€ (a couple of last years those pieces were around 450 € each, but this one is more complicated and thus more pricey), so the loyalty gift costs quite a bit, really.

    I never knew they had so many different figurines! Wow!! They are all amazing! Your butterfly collection is absolutely beautiful! I love butterflies and have collected many random figurines over the years. I also agree you shouldn't buy glass cabinets just because some random person on the internet didnt like your wood ones. Since it's your home it's your choice as to how you choose to display your things! I also prefer wood cabinets over glass. My husband and i also sleep in different rooms since he snores insanely loud. My daughter can hear him in her room downstairs! Lol. Plus his work schedule he gets home at 430am amd always woke me up coming to bed.

  • @KMLautanen
    @KMLautanen6 ай бұрын

    Thank you! <3 There are thousands of Swarovski figurines, if you count everything - someone said over 11 000, and I'm not sure if that counts all the possible variants and everything. I know several collectors who have over 3000 figurines so mine is still relatively small, and some collectors just collect the huge Limited Editions and Myriad-sculptures too, so they're usually far more impressive :) I also love butterflies in crystal form. I adore watching real butterflies too, but I'm terribly afraid of actually touching one, so I admire from afar. I always wish Swarovski would release more butterflies, especially multicolored ones. Finally someone else who likes wooden cabinets! We're a tiny minority, because I constantly have people asking me to buy glass shelves, and I must admit that while they look stunning, every time I think of one I remember one of the cases where someone broke several figurines when a shelf gave out, and one particular case where a glass collector's upper shelf broke, creating a destructive domino effect of shards (and the fight with the insurance company, ugggh!) Also easier to photograph, because you take a photo of a glass display with figurines and all you see is formless sparkle-glitter, sometimes made worse by the person using camera flash). I think there should be a support hotline for people whose significant other would be more quiet if they played a dented tuba all through the night. One particularly memorable night it sounded almost like that, although someone had also stuffed an angry tomcat in the instrument.

  • @alwaystired515
    @alwaystired5156 ай бұрын

    @KMLautanen I'd be devastated if a shelf broke and lost my collection. I have Crystal houses, carriages and figurines from my husband's great grandmother. Along with just other random momentos. And I definitely agree on the support group! Mine sounds like he's sawing down a whole forest and not just a single tree!! It's awful!!

  • @KMLautanen
    @KMLautanen6 ай бұрын

    A loss like that becomes especially devastating if there's sentimental attachment to the figurines, and not just monetary. With some good luck and proper insurance you can replace some of your loss, but nothing brings back a valued gift when it's shattered. The snoring trauma becomes especially terrible when they're apparently using a chain saw. And then people just tell you to poke them so they'll stop snoring, and then when you've spent the entire night "just poking" you start looking for a dictionary of worst insults to anyone who says "have you tried poking".

  • @KMLautanen
    @KMLautanen6 ай бұрын

    I have a friend who raises monarch butterflies in the 'States. They bring the eggs and caterpillars indoors to safety and then raise them so that no parasites, weather or birds can harm them, and release them when they hatch. They do tons of them every year, and apparently it's something that requires a lot of care and work, but people who do that help the conservation efforts. It's something I've always appreciated and I follow their photos and videos every year. Just a thought of touching a caterpillar makes my skin crawl, but the way they release the fully grown butterflies is so impressive. Such beautiful creatures. Although we have no monarch butterflies here in Finland, they impressed me so much I started growing flowers just for butterflies and leaving some over-ripe fruit in the garden for butterflies to feed on.

    @@KMLautanen wow. I would love to see your dollhouse collection. Sounds like you have a very interesting house in general🤩

  • @KMLautanen
    @KMLautanen6 ай бұрын

    I don't actually own a real dollhouse as such, although I have one specifically made four-tier shelf decorated as a dollhouse and built to size. Instead I have a room with dollhouse rooms built inside the solid wall structure. The only light fixtures in that room are inside the dollhouse rooms, so there's no overhead light or sconces etc, but the relatively small room is still lit by 23 light bulbs at eye and chest level. And those dollhouse rooms contain my collection of dollhouse things. Here's a few examples: www.kmlautanen.fi/fi/katjablog/minit/l1.JPG www.kmlautanen.fi/fi/katjablog/minit/c1.JPG www.kmlautanen.fi/fi/katjablog/minit/e1.JPG www.kmlautanen.fi/fi/katjablog/minit/f1.JPG www.kmlautanen.fi/fi/katjablog/minit/a1.JPG www.kmlautanen.fi/fi/katjablog/minit/g1.JPG Then there are a few "roombox" style settings built in old bird cages, a glass lantern etc. In all, the room has currently 35 dollhouse rooms without one actual true dollhouse. As a bonus, they take no actual floor space at all. The house has been called "interesting" before. The oldest part is around 100 years old, though there are no building permits, paperwork or plans left from that time, so nobody seems to know the actual building date, and it's in public records as a "guess-timate". The main building is a bit under 500m2 (5381.9 square feet?) (though that's another guess-timate, since the library is six meters high, the main staircase takes a lot of floor space etc) and then there's another building with a sauna, storage space, a summer guestroom, wood storage and hobby space. The entire thing has been expanded a few times over the years, and there's no official floor plan of it all either.

  • @kjerstibog
    @kjerstibog6 ай бұрын

    @@KMLautanen thank you😊 Those dollhouserooms are incredible - so much detail. Do you know what the house has been used to earlier? With the really high ceiling and size it must have been something grand 🤔

  • @KMLautanen
    @KMLautanen6 ай бұрын

    Nope, it's always been just a private house. The six-meter library was our own construction and my own plan, the room was built from scratch by hand and using manual tools (the house main skeleton/frame was there first, of course, but we did everything from the interior wall and ceiling beams and support columns up by ourselves). We wanted to try and build a large round room (six meters in diameter and six meters high) with a domed ceiling all out of wood, because many professionals said it was impossible (one was determined it could only be done by masonry, another suggested a metal support structure etc, so we decided we wouldn't hire anyone and just did it ourselves). The library floor (www.kmlautanen.fi/fi/katjablog/bloginkuvat/kirjastolattia.JPG), the entire round room with hand-made along-the-walls shelves (www.kmlautanen.fi/fi/katjablog/bloginkuvat/torpkirjasto2019.JPG) three metres high etc, and yep, a domed ceiling made out of wood.

  • @KMLautanen
    @KMLautanen6 ай бұрын

    Oh yes, there are the large Happy Flowers, approximately 18 cm tall, then medium, 10 cm tall, and small, 5 cm. :) I know many people have different solutions with ornaments. I've seen people display them in open boxes on shelves, and many have either stationary or rotating display stands (not made by Swarovski). Swarovski also made their own ornament display stands, but they only fit two ornaments each and they don't look as good in them, IMO - not to mention if you want a lot of ornaments, you need an ungodly amount of display stands. I know many people just take them out for Christmas to put in their tree, but they're at huge risk of breaking, I guess - over the years I've seen dozens of posts about broken ornaments when they a) fell from a branch, or b) the entire tree fell over because of a pet or a child. I have my own method, which is one more bonus of solid wood shelves.

    It will be perfect if you custom made a proper display cabinet, since u already spent so much on swarovski crystal.

    Thanks for the recommendation, but I prefer my own shelves. Not buying a glass display cabinet is not about money, I use many times that for my other collections. It's about the fact that I detest modern glass cabinets, and I don't collect to suit the taste of others.

    I had never seen the peacock, these blue and green colors look gorgeous ! The little box with the beads is very cute, it looks like a treasor box. I made some infidelities to Swaroski, I bought three articles from Baccarat : one ornament star and two butterflies. They don't reflect light like Swarovski does, it is nothing to do with it, I prefer Swarovski by far.

    I’m glad you pointed this out! Baccarat is so highly renowned and is typically held on a higher pedestal than Swarovski when it comes to crystal makers, but I never understood it because the majority of their products just look like molded glass! They aren’t faceted and don’t sparkle! There is definitely no comparison to Swarovski in my opinion!

    Glad you like 5063694 SCS AE Arya . She's quite gorgeous, though for a long time I wasn't sure I wanted her. They released the 5063695 SCS Exclusive White Peacock and I completely fell in love with that (though I'm constantly afraid it'll tip over and break) and it overshadowed Arya for me. But when I saw it live, I had to get one too! I had to check out Baccarat's items. I've seen some in Finnish auction sites and they've never really impressed me, but I must say I like their Snowflake ornaments, but I've also gotten the impression they're more squeezed glass than cut crystal. Nevertheless they impressed me. I also fell in love with the multicolored "lucky butterfly". That one is actually rather adorable.

    I pretty much agree with you. I like some of their colours and the complicated cuts of their snowflake ornaments, but as whole they're just not the quality and sparkle Swarovski gives :/

    I had never seen the lovlot squirrel, usually i don’t very like lovlot but this one is adorable!! I think he must be very rare. The only lovlot that i have is the purple dog because I’m in love with purple

    @KMLautanen Жыл бұрын

    I didn't like Lovlots for a long time either, but I got a few in a lot with others, and then some went into my wish list etc. Gracy is a beauty, and not too rare, you should be able to find one between 50-100 € quite easily. :) And purple is my favourite colour as well, you have good taste!

    Thank you! I'm glad if it helps someone. Although I only present the new items in my collection and that's barely of any help with identification, but I hope people who fall in love with an item and want one of their own will have easier time locating one. The best Swarovski identification site is crystallodge.piwigo.com/ with over 3400 Swarovski items presented. It does have some errors and it's far from complete, but it's a good guide for people who need to identify a figurine (their guide is missing many items as well, so I use it in combination with various other sites).

    The stars with the blue color are amazing. I didn’t know it existed this calendar but I agree with you, they should put other models because stars are all the same despite the color

  • @KMLautanen
    @KMLautanen Жыл бұрын

    This 2021 Calendar was sold out pretty quickly. They made more of the 2022 calendar, but I didn't buy that one. They published the contents beforehand, and it did include figurines, but sadly they were Lovlots Mo-cows and Ricci-moose, and I don't care for those. I've also heard rumors about 2023 Swarovski/Disney calendar, but I've yet to see photos. The price sounded pretty hefty though. The 2022 Calendar cost 700 €, and another collector said they'd heard they'd heard the 2023 Disney calendar would cost 1000 €, though that remains to be seen.

    Oh, and the blue-looking ornaments are those with Aurora Boreale-coating. The angle and the white stationary background doesn't captivate their true beauty.

    You’re right, the figurines in the US are bigger! And i didn’t know that for a same model, there were slight differences wether it comes from Europe, Canada or USA

  • @KMLautanen
    @KMLautanen Жыл бұрын

    There are, of course, more figurines that are the same everywhere, but a few dozen different ones as well. And since they're assembled by hand, you can find many of the older ones with head in slightly different positions, for example, or the swan-mark in a different place. Truly fascinating!

    You’Ve got the mother of Mandisa! And the aurorboreal, i don’t know if it is the light that gives this blue color but it’s gorgeous!

    Yep :) I also got the last Elephant, Fayola, early in 2023. They are a stunning group as a family. The Aurora Boreale-coating shows many colours depending on light and the angle you're looking at it from, purples and blues. The other coating called "Shimmer" shows more pinkish and purplish shades. They're both very beautiful.

    In a way that sounds very familiar: when I started, I told myself I'd keep my collection modest, small and humble, that I'd only collect some favourites from flowers, birds and Crystal Memories. After that it's been expanding every year, new lines finding their way to my wish list, and when I think of all those wonderful figurines I could have added to my shelves years I go I could just cry! I'm glad when people find joy from collecting these wonderful figurines. They're something that unites people regardless of age, race or gender. I'm glad you enjoyed this peek into my collection :)

  • @KMLautanen

    Thank you! I hope you get them soon :) The Tigers especially are adorable, and Baby Elephant Mandisa is among my favourites from 2022 releases. If you mean the SCS AE Elephants, they seem to be still in stock on Swarovski's website. After they retire their prices on eBay tend to climb a bit, but you can sometimes see good deals when a collector sells or downsizes their collection. Good luck in your search, and thanks for your compliment. :)

    People can get confused. I've also seen many tiger cubs sold as lion cubs, Horse Esperanza's foal is often sold as "Esperanza", Whale Paikea's baby is sold as "Paikea" etc etc. Before 2021 only the main SCS Annual Exclusive had a name. :)
