GFCI's are not for overload protection, that's the circuit breakers function. GFCI's monitor the current in the hot and neutral wires and will trip if the difference is between 4 and 6mA to protect the user from electrocution. I'm assuming that the circuits are 20 amp with 12 gauge wire, you shouldn't use 20 receptacles on 15 amp circuits. If you're going to install a GFCI on a circuit with another GFCI downstream, use pigtails to the Line side, and do not use the Load side. Also, check the old receptacle to verify that it's not already GFCI protected from an upstream device or a GFCI breaker. Those receptacles should be labeled "GFCI protected outlet" in those cases, but it's not always done.

Always a good idea to install a GFCI no matter where and closest to the breaker as well as those wet areas. One thing you didn't mention is that you need to install the correct amp version. A 20 amp only on a 20 amp service (12AWG wiring/20 amp breaker and a 15 on a 15 amp service, (14 AWG wiring/15 amp breaker). Also a GFCI protects all receptacles downstream of that device.

It's code compliant to use a 15 amp duplex receptacle or GFCI receptacle on a 20 amp circuit and there's no compromise in safety. It's the installer's option. GFCI's protect downstream receptacles only if fed from the Load, which is not always desirable.

Thanks for this pro tip!! My back couldn't take it standing up, but it worked just as well on knee-pads with a wrecking bar. Didn't even need a hammer, just had to hit them with the bar a few times from different angles to loosen them up, and they popped out clean with the flat end of the bar! Whole room took only about 20 minutes. Life saver!

I have a Berkey. I was looking to buy some replacement filters only to discover the price went up drastically. $349 for 2, this doesnt include the flouride filters. Feb 2023 I paid $185.00. Thank you for this review, I will check it out. I imagine using a separate uv light around the glass of water may help as well?

This was excellent to go by. The only thing left as just an oh by-the-way was disconnecting the switch itself. It was a little more than just squeeze this. I had to put a small straight blade screwdriver under it ti lift it enough to come loose. Pointing out the one screw and nut way over to the left was great. My plastic cover came off and back on much better. I did it in July in the garage and the adhesive was soft and easy. You talked just the right amount and showed eveything. Thanks again.

Thank you so much for the thorough explanation and tips. I replaced mine today and after $65.00 and a trip to ACE (the only wrench I did not have was the 10 mm), the job was done. in less than one hour. You were right about the upper bolt. The 10 mm wrench is absolutely essential there. The bottom one was a cinch with the ratchet. Thank you also to Fraserfirrr.

Did you not have the side tank hooked up? You should've had one hose going there and one to the back of the unit.

Hi did you used to have a smoke detector in that spot that was a wired and battery operated smoke detector AND now you just pushed up those wires because you won’t need them with the newer versions of the smoke alarm not needing a wire install as well? I’m wondering if my wires can just be pushed back and I don’t need to replace my old one with the wires? I’m so confused. Please help. Thank you.

my old deck had joists 24" on center. Trex recommends 16" on center. I t hink your deck is going to sag......unless those joists are closer than they look. I ended up replacing all the top decking, and then adding add'l joists making them 12 " on center..(more than required), but easier (to me) than moving all the existing joists that were 24" ON CENTER... I just added another joist between each one.

That flashing tape is very important, because water tends to sit on top of the joists and cause wood rot. Your deck will last a lot longer with the flashing.

Backstabbing receptacles is a option but it is not ideal! It increases the chance of bad connectivity. Always loop the wire around the screws the proper way!
