That is a modification I've never seen, and I've seen a lot of them. I've owned 1911-type pistols for about 40 years, but never shot in competition, or had much work done on them. So, the disconnector is completely disabled when the slide is back, but moving forward? Could that cause it to go full-auto, or have any other issues functioning?

Yaun. All the 1911 s ive ever had 5 or 6 25 years ago. I sold and or traded them away durring the 2000 teens. My new collection so far has no 1911s. The newer guns are lighter and higher cap. Today is the golden age of firearms. Love thise 1911s may pick on up, may not.

When I built my first IPSC 1911 on a Colt Series 70 in 1982 my gunsmith offered this mod. He also modified the underside of the slide to accommodate a longer Commander ejector that he installed, which is a mod Pachmayer was doing for Ross Seyfried and Jeff Cooper on their Pachmayer Special competition guns at the time. That longer ejector gives the brass an extra hard whack on the way out, and combined with a lowered and flared ejection port makes sure the brass is out of the pistol quickly and far away with no hang ups. Thanks for the detailed video on this mod! 👍

Is it a really cold winter where you are? That seems like feeding them way too much, unless they're very weak hives. Also, sugar water is not that good for them. They need proteins and fats too, but pollen substitutes are awful. Basically it's hard to start from nukes. If you feed them too much they won't make much honey, or they'll make "funny" honey. One thing is for sure: beekeeping is a fun activity for couples.

I did this to a 686 I owned a few years back. It took about 5 minutes, cost about 20 bucks, and made a HUGE difference! Loved that revolver, sadly destroyed by a reload my buddy gave me! That was about 12 years ago. I just bought another 686 today, and its in the mail. I will be replacing these two springs once I get the gun in my hands. And no more reloads from Skippy down the road either!

I’m 54 bought my 700 BDL 243 when I was 19. I’ve hunted with it every deer season since. It would shoot MOA but recently I bedded the action and freefloated barrel. With Remington 95 Corlokt tipped it shoots same hole every time even when it starts getting hot. I really love showing off its accuracy now when people pull out their custom benchrest rifles and are shooting sub MOA and my old Remington hunting rifle is tack driving.

Other than adding wood grips the only thing I did to my Kimber Custom 2 was adding an oversized slide release. Having short thumbs it was absolutely necessary.

There are people arguing about whether this can affect the firing cycle. Some people are saying it cannot because the disconnector remains in a lowered position for the duration of the cycle after firing. I am not an expert, so I decided to test this to see what the reality is. I took my 1911, no mag, no round chambered, cocked the hammer, pulled the trigger and continued to hold it down. I then pulled the slide to the rear, cocking the hammer and slowly allowed the slide to return to lock up. On my pistol, enough of the disconnector remains above the pistol frame for the front edge of the slide to catch on the disconnector as the slide moves forward. Continuing to hold the trigger in the pulled position seems to make this more significant because it seems to apply pressure to the disconnector that holds it in position, rather than allowing it to move entirely freely. I am sure my pistol is not representative of all 1911s, but I suspect that this catching of the disconnector has been causing some problems for me.

I never heard of it, but it seemed perfectly logical to me to do not only that, but much else that eliminates friction between assorted often coarsely finished mass production parts. Polishing compound, PTFE powder and some attention to detail, everything moves smoother and with less effort. edit: I build engines and make jewelry, so my take on the value of finish work is different than that of the average person.
