Welcome to my channel. I've been a music and video game audio creator for over 25 years, and have been lucky to have toured the world with music, and work on some of the biggest AAA video games. My passion is synths and this channel will be a mix of studio jams, mini-docs on synthesizer history, and just general studio-related shorts. Hope you enjoy!

Awesome work / video. 9:02 but one thing which was annoying for me - is that side chain effect to the background music (each time when you speak, the music goes quieter) - this could be a good idea, but you overdosed that effect. It could be better if the music stays at the same level, instead jumping from loud to quiet all the time like crazy, or if that side chain effect could be less noticeable.

The slap bass samples sound much better and more realistic than the GS Wavetable and Sound Canvas slap bass samples in my opinion, even for a sampler that was released back in 1986.

Awesome accomplishment. I remember searching ages for an HD5-IF, I ultimately got “lucky” and was able to buy a brand new old stock original complete with packaging (“lucky” in quotes because it was massively expensive). Since then I have used it and the S-550 exactly zero times. Need to get back into making music. Cheers

Let me get this straight, the syncing the devices I understand but you are then running control voltage to the cutoff... then the gate output to trigger...?! That sounds very counterintuitive. I have to try it. Hope you don't mind if I borrow that patch configuration? I have the sub and the SQ1 and an Electro-Harmonix ocean's 12 that might allow me to play with the possibilities of your configuration here. Although the Strymon Big Sky is probably a much tastier ambient reverb. I just want to try that patch. Very cool patch idea. Cooler jam. God bless

Nicely done. In the late 80's I was asked to provide music for a play and I was having trouble with my Poly800 so I rented a D50 for a few weeks. I was stunned by the sounds it could make, one patch after another had these complex layers of lush tonal character. Every sound suggested new music. Whoever programmed this was a true sound artist. I hated returning it, and I can still hear its haunting sonorities in my memory.

Since the new Prophet 5 rev 4 uses both filter chip sets (the CEM 3320 and the SSI 2140, I wonder if they'll incorporate in a firmware update the 12db filter and the Q compensation capabilities of the SSI 2140. I have the Rev-1 filter mod (the SSI 2140 filter chips) on my Rev 3.3 Prophet 5, and while I can't save the 12db setting, nor the Q compensation per patch, the mod opens up a lot of sonic possibilities to my old friend. Especially not losing bass frequencies/volume at higher resonance is so nice. The synth can (almost) pull of the classic Tom Sawyer bass rez now!

Did anyone back around 1990 take advantage of a Roland D-50 Postcard offering a special reduced purchase price? I did! But I can't remember though if it might have been from an ad in Keyboard Magazine. I just remember somehow getting the official Roland postcard and taking it to my local music store sales guy who had not heard of the promotion and had to get it all checked out before he'd sell me one for the advertised price!
