I miss when KZread was about the humanness and everyone expressing their own content. When the algorithm came into the mix everything about the content changed to pleasing it; lots of content lost its soul.

I think a lot of artists and creative people get called pretentious, unfortunately. Especially if they have a lot of knowledge on whatever their particular niches are. . . Anyway, I enjoy your content!

After thinking about this over the day, I think what I like about KZread for all its failures is the entirely inhomogeneous content. I got addicted to shorts some days ago, but once the algorithm has learned what I want to see, it has become surprisingly boring, because it is exactly what I expect. Same happens on Spotify - it makes great choice for music which pleases me, but hardly manages to find a song I would bother to keep in mind. Which is why I like a lot when channels just do something unpredictable from time to time. Not always. But sometimes just something pretentious can be very welcome, just like unexpected silliness does the same. So I enjoy how it is outside of my control on this channel.

No mention of the Israeli hostages still being held captive in Gaza or the Israeli soldiers who have given their lives to dismantle Hamas's operations. No mention of Hamas's brutal October 7th terror attack on Israelis or its ongoing assault on Israeli citizens. No mention of the international rise in antisemitism and hate crimes toward Jews in the days and months since October 7th. So much for a "balanced" take. I have really enjoyed Jeremiah's content since the early days of KZread (Church of Blow was one of my favorite web series), but regurgitating pro-Palestinian talking points with little context is the sort of hollow, provocative clickbait I thought Jeremiah decries.

AND I'LL TELL YOU SOMETHING ELSE YOU FOUL CRITICS, there's a BIG difference between Pretentious (which I'm fine with whether he qualifies or not) and Elitist. NO THEY'RE NOT THE SAME THERE TWO DIFFERENT WORDS!!! Pretentious is an accusation when the artist has, (god forfend!), standards of some sort. There nothing wrong with having tastes and standards ffs. They're PROBABLY thinking you're "elitist", which can actually be pretty messed posture towards others. I wouldn't worry too much about being pretentious and I'm meant ways, it can be a strength.

What an ironic comment. Especially considering that KZread is just a distribution system like you said, and not the art that is distributed. Better KZreads do exist, but nobody uses them and keeps posting on KZread because it is predictable and familiar… so you know… good luck chaining that.

Been feeling down about wanting to create films while staying true to myself and the overall struggle of an indie filmmaker. Today I had the thought that in the history of filmmaking now is the best time to do it with modest means, so far. The struggle is exposure, the algorithms like you said. I believe there can be a hopeful future as well, we just have to navigate uncharted waters to get there. This was very encouraging, thank you!

when I was young and for most of my twenties, I didn't 'get' art. I could understand when something was attractive to my eye, or if it was architecturally beautiful, but other than that shallow level, I couldn't get it. And I hated impressionism. I was at the national museum one day when I saw the Salvador Dali piece Lobster Telephone - and I can't tell you why or how but that one stupid sculpture unlocked almost all of art for me. It was like suddenly I realised the art was actually supposed to make me think about it not with an objective mind, but specifically with an emotive one. You're meant to feel art like to feel anger or sadness or contentedness. I think when they tell you that you're meant to find art good, that you're meant to try to critique it, but that pretty much misses the point. Art isn't meant to be comparatively good, its just meant to be good for you like lunch is good. Lunch can be better or worse than yesterday, but its still just good.

It's just timing... will I see it at the top of my list or will other notifications push it down? Same goes with our content. Somehow we have one video out there getting millions of views while others just hover around a thousand 😅

So climate change, like art, is for everybody? And it can change you? Fair enough, that makes sense. Unlike your radiator stopper - you know that they work by convection rather than radiation, don't you? That's why yours doesn't work the way it should, as you say. I do like your less-than-obvious metaphors. They make me feel more intelligent, unlike most stuff which just makes me feel that everyone else is more ignorant.

Totally agree! I don't think having artistic ambition is at all pretentious. I think that having something meaningful and sincere that you want to share is... like, NORMAL. That's kind of a human standard, that's the human condition. We want to communicate and share and be understood on a deep level! It's having absolutely NOTHING in you that you want to share or create or convey that's noteworthy. Being artistic is human. Not being artistic is... Probably Symptomatic of some serious social ills. 😅

You're so right, as you were talking about how art changes you my first thought was music. My life started loving rock music (guns n roses, thanks to my brother). Years later I got into rap like Dre and Eminem (thanks to my other brother). Now I love all things folk and I mostly listen to Paul Simon or Bob Dylan... so if I just used algorithms to choose my content I'd still be listening to fucking guns n roses 😂 (which ofc I still go back to once in a blue moon).
