Dude! If you weren't my hero before this event, you are now. Here's a very odd thought that occurred to me as I watched. During World War II, the Japanese used to torture prisoners of war by beating them on the bottoms of their feet with bamboo sticks. You kinda did that to yourself, and yet, you completed the event despite the pain. Almost 40 years ago, I did a few triathlons here (just the short ones, about 2 hours or so in length). That interest led me to read about an American triathlete named Mark Allen. Allen won the Hawaii Ironman, I think three times. Obviously, one of the toughest endurance athletes ever. Allen used to say, "The truth is out there". By that, he meant that when you are at the edge of your capacity, when you are 'in extremis', that's when you find out the truth about yourself. If that's true, then you have found your truth, and that is that you are one bad MFr. Hats off to you, Ryan. I'm a big fan. Oh, and yeah those SA guys are tough. I find that reassuring. As a UK citizen, you've gotta feel good about the SAS defending you. 😊

Great video! I'm new to zwift as of now. One point I would make is that even though the Aero power up will help you up the hill it should give you far more benefit on the flat or downhill as Aero gains increase at higher speeds. Aero gains are also close to non-existent once you get to 5% gradient for ppl of our level (for pros it's more like 7-8%).

Hi m8 well done for even finishing it’s tough course I did it with my sons in winter time and it was brutal plus we were camped on the hills too, my son also realised at bottom of Jacob’s ladder he’d dropped his phone cus he slipped on first part of going down so he knew where it would be he said wait there dad with my pack and ran to top and back down again and said got it without breaking a sweat but getting to the point he was a royal marine who after this actually did summer selection and finished the fan in 3.20 but with 45lb without water food plus rifle another 10lb and as you said a week of beasting behind him and went on to pass every march but failed on endurance 20 mile in rolled his ankle bad loaded up with brufen but slowed him down too much so got pulled off on next checkpoint he was gutted and refused a second selection said he wouldn’t put his body through it again and as you can imagine he was super fit but sometimes it’s the luck of the draw with injuries

Kudos on finishing with a load. Tip for you next time, get a pair of tight cotton socks, dust them well with talcum powder, then put on a pair of the thickest wool socks you can comfortably manage that will fit when you put your boots on. Then snug your boot up... any movement will be taken care by the socks and you should not get any blisters. Did that prep on all of my military marches and never had one. The regular soldiers that attempt this selection would have been in the military for a minimum of two years , their boots will be perfect for this endeavour, so with newish boots you were doomed from the start really. Of course, as you are aware, the Fan Dance is only part of the selection process and at the end of it, they dont go home, they go straight into the next gruelling phase. Stops stopping the adventure because all the kit is soaking. Just saying.
