World Flying Disc Federation

The World Flying Disc Federation (“WFDF”) serves as the international governing body of all flying disc sports, with responsibility for sanctioning world championship and other international flying disc events, establishing uniform rules, and setting standards for and recording of world records. It acts

-To promote and protect the “spirit of the game” of flying disc sports play;
-To encourage flying disc sports play throughout the world and foster the establishment of new national flying disc sports associations, advising them on all flying disc sports activities and general management;
-To promote and raise public awareness of and lobby for official recognition of flying disc play as sport; and to provide an international forum for discussion of all aspects of flying disc sports play.

    Keep it out of the Olympics!!!

  • @jonasibiza6416
    @jonasibiza64163 ай бұрын

    Why?

  • @squidge903
    @squidge9033 ай бұрын

    @@jonasibiza6416 so many reasons: 1) Ultimate as we know it won't work in the Olympics. Too many players and not enough revenue - so they have to change it. Look at the 4v4 version they made to court the IOC - it is incredibly awful. Anything but 'normal' Ultimate will change how the rest of us play, forever. Normal Ultimate is great and doesn't need to change just for the the Olympics. 2) Ultimate still doesn't know how to manage high intensity games or cheating - Game Advisors are useless at stopping cheating, and only barely mitigate calls (and don't fix the worst problems of the average person spectating anyway.) The Olympics WILL encounter intense games and very probably cheating, considering the monetary value of Olympic visibility and medalling. GA's are still an immature fixture of the game and aren't ready for Olympic exposure. 3) Ultimate is not yet a good sport to watch for people who don't play. The average person won't want to watch people talk about calls, even for 30 seconds. One single bad call and the sport will get laughed out of viewing circulation. (See point 2 about calls and cheating at the Olympics.) 4) As great as self-officiation can be, it looks and seems dumb to people who don't know the sport... And will especially keep looking that way til we figure out points 2 & 3. 5) We keep spending money trying toget in the Olympics, and will never get in - too much required of the organizers in space, accommodation, etc, which increases costs, and relatively zero income it will bring in (no major sponsors, no large player base, no spectator interest.) Our WFDF money and time should be spent on grassroots development, growing the sport, and returning investment to the community, not wasting time on the pipe dream of the Olympics. 6) The exposure would be massive, but it's not the only pipeline for sport exposure and legitimacy. Numerous sports have exploded in popularity over their lifetime with no Olympic exposure - US football, cricket, squash, pickleball, and lacrosse, to name a few. Chasing exposure at the expense of ignoring the downsides is stupid and wasteful. 7) The Olympics is corrupt AF. With all of the above, this just adds to the mess we don't need to get into.
