  To learn about an introduction to proofs, I recommend looking into Discrete Mathematics, which is generally a first-year college course. Elementary through high school is about learning, and college is about proving. Additionally, you can use proofs to determine whether or not certain statements are true or false. This means that proofs can be utilized to discover theorems. Making particularly valuable discoveries might even be worth having a theorem named after you in a future textbook.

  The line of logic is "Okay, how fo I solve an equation? First, I need a tool to do something to the equation. Well, what tools can we use? Well, we can add, subtract, multiply, or divide any number from a true statement and it still remains as a true statement. What's an example of a true statement? 4 = 4. Therefore, since the equation with a variable implies that the left-hand side is equal to the right-hand side, then we can do the same thing for the equation in the problem itself." The obvious equation is just an example to illustrate that you can do the same thing with the non-obvious equation.
