So the starter is spinning, but the engine isn’t??? You’ll think I’m crazy, but it sounds like your new starter is bad. When you turn the ignition key to the “start” position, the gear inside the starter housing spins and moves forward and engages with the teeth of the flex plate and cranks the engine. When you let off of the key (from the “start” position to “run” position) the gear retracts and goes back inside the start housing. So, it sounds like the gear is spinning but it’s not moving forward to engage with the flexplate. Try tapping it with a hammer. If that doesn’t work, you’ll have to take it back to the parts store. 😕

Two things, first i think you twists are too tight, you want 8 to 10 twists per inch. Second mistake, the tail, you want to reverse the twists so it doesn't come up over the head of the bolt. The twist from the first to the second bolt are clockwise, from the second bolt onward is counter clockwise. This is the twist, NOT the wrap direction.
@HotRodsHowTos3 ай бұрын
Thanks for the tips. I’m probably in the 8-10 twist per inch range. I’ve done experiments to see how far I can go before the wire begins to feel weak and break. So I’ve been going off of “feel” through the pliers, and what looks cool. (I know, looks shouldn’t come before safety 🤦🏻♂️). But, the next time, I’ll definitely count the twist. And yes, I should twist the tail counterclockwise. Seems obvious now that I read it. I just have a cheap set of pliers that only spin clockwise. I have a tendency to get “locked in” to certain ways of doing things. (The pliers spin clockwise, therefore the wire has to ALWAYS go clockwise ). (My factory defect 😂). I got a deluxe ultimate tip for the 4.9 fuel pump. One that will even allow you to use cheapo ones. I previously had an issue where you could only use motorcraft fuel pumps but not anymore. The fuel pressure is so high in these that it will blow the cap off the off brand FP modules causing the fuel pump motor to get dislodged internally. So you take wire or hose camping to reinforce the cap from ever blowing off. And you'll never go through multiple fuel pumps in a row wondering what the hell is wrong.

If you haven already, look at lupegalven’s comment and read through the replies. His issue ended up being the ecm. I’m beginning to wonder if the egr restrictor plate is just a bandaid for a bigger issue. You’re not the first person I’ve heard of with an egr delete, and still having this issue. My truck has recently developed a stumble at idle. Diagnostics say it’s “spark output wire open”. Research suggests it’s 1 of 3 things. 1) short in the spark output wire 2) bad PIP sensor in the distributor 3) faulty ECM. 🤷🏻♂️ who knows 😂 Thanks for commenting and good luck!

Yes, both hoses were hot before I flushed it. Coolant is getting through the heater core, that’s why both hoses are hot. But the heater core is partially blocked and not allowing it to heat up completely. (At least that’s what mine was doing).

Lol my honda accord randomly bucks like a horse or should i say once i hit the gas to take off,its like struggling to get up😢. My car is fast so im like wtf is going on😫😒😬,my mechanic says it could be i need to check the transmission fluid, but i also read it could be a clogged catalytic converter 😮
@HotRodsHowTos7 ай бұрын
In my experience, when a catalytic converter gets clogged it smells like rotten eggs when it’s running. You should notice some sort of funky smell if it’s the cat. If the engine rpm’s come up, but the car isn’t accelerating like it should, it’s probably a transmission issue. Low fluid will cause that. When you check the fluid level, look at the color. It should be red. If it’s brown, you’ve got issues. I don’t know the fluid level check procedure on a Honda, so you’ll have to do a little research. On a domestic car you: 1) get the car up to operating temperature 2)) put the transmission in “drive” for a few seconds 3) put the transmission back in “park” and check the fluid level. FYI, running a transmission low of fluid can damage it. Hopefully everything is ok.

A clear coat makes all the difference in the end. 5 feet away those wheels look fantastic. Maybe try the Eastwood 2K Aero-Spray clear coat, pretty much the closest to a paint shop you can get.
Thanks for the info! Have you tried any of Eastwood’s rust dissolvers, converters, encapsulators by chance? I’m curious on how well they work.
@@HotRodsHowTos I haven't used the Eastwood rust stuff. I have used the PB Blaster "metal rescue rust remover bath", and it worked as expected. I use the PB Blaster "Surface Shield" stuff like trailers that are bare steel. I think it is the same stuff dealers use for under-carriage rust proofing.
Ok cool. I’m going to check those out. Thanks again man!
Whats the grill on the wall from? Looks dope.
Thanks. It’s from a ‘68 Ford Galaxie.
The part I needed to see was how to remove the top bolt holding the starter, but you skipped it. I cannot get a socket wrench on the bolt due to the exhaust and brake lines. HELP!!
Sorry, but I can’t remember off the top of my head. I either used a wrench, or I used an extension with a swivel and snaked it through there.
My Uncle (78) has both the Dodge Nitro and Jeep Liberty and BOTH have same heater problems... he stops on the road and switches in/out lines on heater core and it works again for a time....... the BIG PROBLEM (I think 45 years Auto-Body) is the main ENGINE WATER PUMP.... same as a Jet Ski stops pumping at high RPMs... The main Engine Water Pump stops fully circulating high road RPMs and is wore out at 150,000km but still keeps the Engine Cool..... !!! FIX !!! a 12Volt Pump on the Heater lines (RV or transfer Pump from CANADIAN TIRE or PRINESS AUTO) or a NEW ENGINE WATER PUMP that seems to be working fine but isn't... Hope this Helps someone :)
I had a buddy that bought that same setup truck with the 4.9 6 back in 95. He tore up 2 transmissions under warranty, but the engine was bulletproof. Those engines put out nearly as much torque as the 8s, of course less hps
Thanks for sharing
I have this issue it just started and all my smog been ripped off, i got the egr blocked off, i just put new cap and roter plugs wires on it
If you haven already, look at lupegalven’s comment and read through the replies.
I’m 72, live in northern Saskatchewan, Canada it’s been -31 Celsius for 2 weeks! Heater blew cold air or lukewarm on hot. Trouble shooting with dealership said it was blend door actuator. I did more research and found your video! If you were here I’d hug n kiss you! My mechanic and I as I’m a mechanics daughter did what you said and my Liberty has never blown such hot air! Bless you and all your family 💙💙💙 thanks for posting 💙
Hey that’s awesome! Thank you so much for the kind words! I’m glad I could help. FYI, you may have to flush it again next winter. It’s annoying, but it’s better than spending 2 days replacing the heater core. 😂
This same thing happened to me I bought mine this summer and never realized the heat sucked real bad on drivers side. Then it got below cold here. My local mechanic did this for $75 and now my heat is burn your face off hot.

I've never seen any vendors there? Does anyone have any video of what they were selling on the side?
Just got mine a 4.9l automatic a little under a yr for 1500 with 150k miles thank you for all that you do
Awesome man. Sounds like you got a great deal! Thanks for commenting.
Was one hose hot and the other cold on my wife’s jeep both hoses are hot to the touch. So I’m thinking it doesn’t need a flush but I guess it can’t hurt. I already checked both blend acuaters those are good. No coolant leaking at all. So I’m almost positive I shouldn’t have to replace the heater core. Any ideas?
Yes, both hoses were hot before I flushed it. Coolant is getting through the heater core, that’s why both hoses are hot. But the heater core is partially blocked and not allowing it to heat up completely. (At least that’s what mine was doing).
I'm glad I didn't start parts cannon'ng my 94 f150. This absolutely fixed it. I disconnected the vac line off the EGR, plugged it and went for a drive. After about 5-10 minutes of cruising its like a whole different truck. No more surge, no more bucking, no hesitating. Thank you for this video!
Great to hear! Glad it took care of the problem!
I'm so glad I found this video. I was wondering if I had gotten rusty at driving a stick.
😂
Great Vid, I'm convinced after watching this and several others my wife's 2012 Jeep liberty needs a heater core flushing. I checked all the mechanics, Flow valve...good, Cabin air filter, changed and good, I get very little heat from the passenger side and cold air driver's side. I liked your method the best and will be duplicating it. Just ordered CLR from Amazon, now I have to get a couple of sample lengths of heater hose to hook up so I could flush it. Appreciate you taking the time to show this, I hope I can get er done!
Definitely sounds like the heater core. Good luck. I hope the flush takes. Are of the problem.
Thank you so much, I've got a 91 i6 that bucks, many parts changed, still bucking now I can buy some more parts😮
Good luck man. Hope you get it fixed.
I hope you see this question! I have a 2006 Liberty 3.7 2wd. It looks similar to your setup. So do I need to do the drive shaft? I've only looked a couple times and don't even recall seeing a drive shaft near the starter.
Should have said, "Do I need to drop the drive shaft?"
No. Not on a 2wd.
Built a lot of motors,,the brushed finish isn't anything to worry about,,after it rides in the bearings for a little bit it'll shine up just fine,,but the machine shop should have cleaned it up and wrapped it up with some some plastic rap or something
Thank you! I was hoping someone with experience would say something in the comments. That definitely makes me feel better.
@@HotRodsHowTos you're very welcome
Great video man.
