That particular clamp is designed to stay open using a flathead screwdriver. Always blame engineers for not paying attention

@@cornf3d it still works using a flathead to force the tab thru the other side of the clamp. Please try it but be careful u don't pinch urself if it slips off.

@@RCDisiac sure let's say it does slip through and locks open I don't think it would be easy to unlock it. Along with the limited space I was working with would have made it challenging while on the car

@@cornf3d u unlock it it by squeezing it. Wrap ur hand around it and with ur thumb push down on the tab side of the clamp while squeezing. Be sure ur holding the clamp in the exact spot u need it to be in when it releases.

There is a tool you can buy that looks like a wire cable connected to pliers that is made for these kinds of clamps. The wire end of a cable is like 2 feet long and is attached to the clamp and the other end of the pliers pull the ends of wire cable together thus expanding the clamp. I guess the zip tie would be lot faster and cheaper.

Those clamps are extremely dangerous when held open, they may slip and hit you in the face breaking your nose or teeth.
Or use large straight jaw pliers or remote cable hose clamp pliers.
They make a clamp kit for this type of problem.
