I am a big RUSH fan and like everything about the band - the musicianship, the songs and lyrics, the live performances and the fact that they've achieved incredible success entirely on their own terms.
I spent countless hours in my teens and early twenties trying my best to learn these songs note for note.
I recently dusted off my basses and revisited some of my favorites.
In addition to my Rush covers, I play along with other songs that I think are interesting, specifically from a bass player's perspective.

I still have trouble believing a human being came up with the bass parts to this song. A simply otherworldly performance by Bruce. great cover!
Bruce is the man!
2:37 always loved this section ahh
Yeah, it’s such a changeup, isn’t it?
Goomby's favorite.
I’m very glad to hear that.
Goomby enjoys watching a robot play pop covers. Bass guitar is such a dance anchor for these kinds of songs, never mind the into. The Goomby Brothers reluctantly approve. Nice bass selection.
Bleep bloop buzz🤖
Tina is my 2nd favorite.......... #1 is Carol Kaye
Very cool.
That's what I'd call a happy bass line. And, it makes the song! Well done!
I would agree with that. Thanks!
Any chance we’ll see some more rush?
Probably, at some point.
Great song.
Totally agree.
Fantastic cover!
Awesome 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Thanks so much
is it possible to do it on a 4 strings bass?
Yes, but you would have to tune the E string down to a D. It would change some of the fingerings, but it's possible (and most likely how it was actually recorded).
Ainda chego lá !!! I was born in 1958 !!!! I finely start to study guitar bass at 1 and 1/2 years ago and I love love old rock music and this music is my favorite (best) music, could you send me the tabs ? Taks a lot ! From Brazil !
Everything about what I’m looking at and listening to adds to the song.
Mind blowing stuff. Never knew there was that much going on. I think the song is so perfectly structured that Rutger could really stretch out and still serve the song. But the playing contains 100 times as many quirks as Bill Wyman on MIss You or Emotional Rescue (I know - Ron Wood wrote the bass part). Great job!
It is, isn’t it? Thanks so much for watching and taking the time to leave such a great comment. Take care!
One of the best album tracks ever Great Job 👍 🎉🎉🎉
You are always my go-to tutor when I need to learn something quickly Troy! Watching how you fret bass lines is such a timesaver! Great cover, thanks!
Always happy to help!
Bass beginner here, what effect makes that bass sound like that?
I was using a Phase Shifter... the one offered by GarageBand.
This song built the whole sound for the band jellyfish
I can definitely hear the influence.
You nailed it. Love the feel and tone. Your staccato feel with the ghost notes are wonderful. 👍👍
Thank you kindly!
Paul Goddard was known for his Ric basses but occasionally used a Peavey T40 in the studio. He was on a Peavey catalog or brochure shown with a T40. Incidentally, there is a great article about Goddard in the August Vintage Guitar magazine. Great cover, Troy. As always I learned to listen to the spaces and not overthink this tune. Thanks.
I did not know that... pretty cool. Thanks!
Well done Sir.Good, Good. Grettings from Ecuador.
Many thanks!
I allways enjoy watching you play all these awesome tunes! you rock!!!!! your on another level with your abilities and technique!
Thank you very much!
hey, i was just wondering if you had any updates on my request hand of doom? Not trying to rush you or anything im just curious.
Not yet, still contemplating it.
Beautiful song, beautiful cover!😎
Agreed! Thanks so much!
Bass in the drivers seat on this tune!
Truth!
Best song. Your timing is a bit of ate but.
I think it's a good song as well. Not sure if the remainder of your comment is good or bad, but I thank you for watching and taking the time to comment.
Good job man
Thank you very much.
Oh my god your tone 🫨🫨🫨😳
I'm glad you liked it.
I love his song ☺️ love that bass too, has such a good sound,.. 🥰
Me too! Thanks Cindy, I'm glad you liked it.
Very nice cover. A cool bouncing bassline. ;-)
Thanks a lot! Truth!
My man! Jeez you"ve covered a LOT of good stuff!
Hey, thanks!
Bet you could have played it better if all those weird people weren’t staring at you! Hahahahaha
Haha… DeathStudios.
Perfect spot on!
Thank you!
Any effects being used?
No, must a SansAmp Bass Driver (probably a Ver. 2) for my EQ.
It's almost like the bass part was a jam and they built the song around it.
A very loose jam.
Double Pbass like on the BC Rich Mockingbird!
Next stop!
Use Audacity to change the pitch.
Too advanced for me.
Maestro, cuánto talento hay aquí
¡Debes estar hablando de Chris Squire!
@@TJH3113 de ambos, es genial todo tu trabajo
Sweeeeet❤😂🎉
I'm glad you liked it!
❤ super playing and sound, have you à Spector NS2 ?
Thank you! No, but I did have a Euro and a Woodstock-made NS4 (bolt-on). I sold both of those, but still have this bass, a Pulse Ver. 1, and an NS2A.
Hi Troy I'm trying out voice dictation to write this comment. Sorry I haven't commented more but just haven't been on the computer in a while. My son wanted to try out this voice dictation to see how it works. If this works out I'll be able to comment more. This is a great song I love it and watching you play it.
Hi Marvine! I'm glad you're ok and the voice dictation seems to be working great! I can read your comment loud and clear.
A masterpiece bass line from Graham Maby, and you nailed it down beautifully! I was in a band in the 80’s that covered this one, and it was an absolute joy to perform!
Very cool! It sound like one of those songs that you really don't need to know in order to like.
Hi Troy, Rich Graham here, I turned my friend Wayne on to your channel. He is a upcoming comedian and through watching you he has stopped breaking my balls about always practicing and not watching movies all the time. Thank you for showing your video technique as we are going to start a podcast. I won’t be doing any tutorials on the channel but we want to promote music and comedy for the Hudson valley. As always thanks for all you do and look forward to seeing more of your videos. They have helped my playing a lot.
Hey Rich! I just responded to a comment that Wayne left, saying he'd lay off you for not watching movie... haha. There is all sorts of equipment available now that is strictly geared for pod casts. Let me know if there's anything I can ever do to help. Thanks and take care!
@@TJH3113 thanks Troy
My best friend is bass player Rick Graham and I always get mad at him because like you, he has no attention span to sit through a movie and I’m a nerdy movie guy. I never understood how he could sit for hours and learn songs but can’t get through a movie. Now after hearing you say this I’ll have to give him a break. Thanks Troy.
Very cool. I don't remember mentioning that in the video, but I must have because it's true.
Hi Troy, I live in Westchester and i would love to see you play live. Are you doing that lately.
Hey! I haven't played outside of this room in many years. I really don't have much of an interest to.
@@TJH3113 understood Troy. Please keep doing what you are. I’m similar socially awkward and into movies. I’m trying my best to be a honest person and put love above all.
It was a better time to listen to the radio back when this was a mainstream hit.
Truth.
So lively! Another fun and uplift video, thanks Troy 😁😄😊🌞🌼🌈🦄🐦🎈🍉
It was my pleasure!! You should check out her video for the song.
Oh yeah!! This was such a fun song in the 80"s and even now lol. Thanks for uplifting my day 😄👍😊👌🙏
Glad you enjoyed it!
Wow. Olivia Newton John really should have laid off all those cigs for the damage it did her voice. ... Ohhhh. :)
Haha... (I've actually got an ONJ cover off to the side. Keep an eye out for it)
That was a fun song… Nice tone on this as always. Thank for sharing.
Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment!
