Do you have a video that shows this process for a square (or not so square) piece of wood. Eg. a pen blank. Thanks

Geez... The "science" is useless... And this does nothing of the motor is plain and simple LOUD!! Buy a quiet shop vac. I have 3 different brands, and the ShopVac brand is the worst! Stanley is okay. Canadian Tire MasterCraft is the quietest, and good suction too!

Of curse when you have a drill press its so easy. I will like to see it done just with the hand drill. Make another video using only the hand drill and the wood stick and let us see how good you are.🤔🤨.

  • @luca6635

Not that easy. As others have pointed out, drilling the first hole straight is difficult due to the wood grain, which are going to deviate the drill bit off the wanted trajectory. And if you don't get that first hole right, then you have a problem. I find the best is to start by hand using a 1 mm think metal tool (not sure how it's called), then start to drill the hole slowly.

I tried this freehand and with a drill press, the drill kept wandering off center. Perhaps it works for most, but not for me.

We can see you working but we can't see what you're working with. Can't blame you if your filming yourself and you don't have a flip screen on your camera...

it would have been nice if you showed how you made the jig slower so it was easier to understand. I understand how you made the jig but how you got it large hole lined up with the larger hole.

Looks good. Boring machines rotate the stock, not the drill. Much more accurate because rotating the stock automatically corrects itself. The combination of small pilot holes and rotating the stock will give you a perfect hole.

Thank you for the knowledge. I am unlikely to complete this specific project, but 5-10 years from now I will encounter another piece of knowledge in a seemingly unrelated field and this videos knowledge will click together with my future problem like a final missing puzzle piece you find under the couch. I don’t want to be immortal, except I occasionally wish I could live long enough for all my stray/loose ends of knowledge to be tied to something personally and physically relevant.

Your block jig was drilled on your drill press. No wonder you were able to get dead center. I was expecting some phenomenal tips to get this done exactly. If you don't have a drill press then you can't replicate what you did. Seems to me like one of those DUH moments.

Hi, Looks like you have a Porter Cable Bandsaw with a riser block. I have the same saw but not able to find the riser block - it is no longer available. Where did you get yours. If you can share some details that would be really useful. Thanks in advance.

    I’m not a mathematician but 80db is not a 50% reduction from 95db. It’s an approximate 15.75% reduction.
