You missed the half compression lever. This allows you to kick against half compression when going to kick start. The full compression lever allows you to get the engine over TDC but when you go for the starting kick your kicking against full compression again. The half comp lever makes starting a Panther a dream and to my knowledge the only such device found on a motorcycle engine.

I could watch guys start their old Panthers all day. My Honda Minitrail Z50 sounds like a baby Panther with its' eyes not open yet. Those old Panthers sound like a grown cat times twelve and arf!

Thank you for this! I have a 1932 9a, recently restored and it does not (yet?) sound as sweet as yours!

Hi Andy, Looks like a nice example. New purchase? I've owned mine about 2 & 1/2 years and still trying to put it right. Takes some getting used to the controls when riding but comfy and sedate riding position. Would be good to hear more about it. Check out www.theliberator.be/liberator.htm if you haven't already. Best regards, Peter.

Hi Peter, sorry i've only just seen your comment, .... a year later :( i owned this bike for 10 years or so, the video was a starting demonstration to the new owner following the sale of the bike, an American serviceman came to see another bike i had for sale and saw this and had it instead, i think it's back in america now where they are pretty rare i think, i loved this bike
