One interesting thing about controls in that time, is that most japanese games has the mind set that circle is the "confirm button" instead of X for western games (In Japan the circle symbolises OK while X symbolises no or deny), so that probably influenced the choice of circle to dodge and others things

Just gonna preface this with I didn't grow up with stick controls they are something I started using in the past 2 years. Honestly the best part about stick controls in MH was that more attacks had a dedicated "button" I have a few good examples such as great sword having a dedicated charged and uncharged swing button allowing for much cleaner combo GS playstyle (button control's longer on the swing because it has to start the charge animation before cancelling causing slower attacks), Tri and got new attack the require some funky button combos and different movement states to pull off but on stick controls it's just left and right. Dual blades has a left and right revolving slash that is finicky to get going the correct direction you want on button control's. Hunting horn has 2 different directions you can do your base swing from that you can't really control with button control's. Imo each control scheme has its advantages, clawing doesn't bother me because I'm gonna claw with either control scheme anyways.

Monster Hunter 1 is not worth playing if you are discussing the North American and European release. MH1 with no online is a shell of its former self. It is nice that we also get the save transfer from MH1JP to MHG and they both have multiplayer.

The X and O swap in the first Monster Hunter was only for the western release, probably an error when remapping buttons since in Japan you confirm with O and go back with X (like a Nintendo controller). In the original japanese release you roll with X and pick up items with O
@CanadianAdim18 күн бұрын
It was a very specific choice to swap confirm to X in the international release as for some reason outside of Japan most games went with X for confirm. They just went with a very jank way of doing it swapping all X actions with O actions. It's a little bit better in the PSP titles but still a weird change imo.

You can switch monster hunter world's controls to be a lot closer to classic monster hunter (dpad cam, flip shoulders and triggers, no radial menu) i personally use dpad camera and disabled radial since you can hotkey the number buttons on your keyboard with steam input. Right analog is never attacking though since "classic controls" for monster hunter is more like the 3ds games now.

It's such a shock going back to the ps1/ps2 era since there was no 'standard' control scheme, unlike todays 'L Joystick- movement R joystick- Camera' they were pretty experimental, played Armored Core last year and it was such a shock to see the control scheme, also fixed camera angles were common and are almost absent nowadays

Wich is a shame since good fixed camera angle games where and are really good, the best example to me are GOW and RE games, but I guess it is a good thing that they are gone since games that do it bad are REALLY BAD, since there is no in-between with fixed camera, it's either good or bad.

A couple of theories: Evolution is a thing in the MH universe so it is not far fetched to say that Wyverians may have evolved from wyverns/dragons and could possibly the first civilizations. Humans may have then evolved from wyverians or just like irl, from apes or "beasts". Wyverians may have been selected to be leaders to have a control over the human greed and to prevent the so called "dragon war" from happening again since they are more attuned to nature and can live long to understand how nature works including elder dragons. Wyverians can also have a bad influence on the MH universe due to how they slow down technological progress to adapt to monsters instead of social, science and entertainment purposes although, even if they allow progress, elder dragons will still destroy everything if it progresses too much.

Regarding wyverian wisdom and knowledge, I'd like to add to what you mentioned about how this is displayed in the roles they play in human civilizations. The majority of wyverians live in their own villages and rarely travel or associate with humans all that much. The minority that do though tend to end up in high, respected positions in human societies. In pretty much every game you can find a wyverian who is a chief or respected elder of a town (or an esteemed scholar), despite the town being 99% human. In Generation Ultimate there is even an NPC human who seeks to prove that a human can match a wyverian when it comes to smithing. Some other details about wyverian biology and physical traits I think bear mentioning include why they are believed to be related to wyverns. Aside from the digitigrade feet, their toes also tend to be pointed claws (though you can only see this in individuals that expose their toes), and a few of them even have green skin. Regarding lifespan, they don't only live longer, but also age proportionally, at least for parts of their development. At the very least we know they spend many decades as teenagers (Stories showing adolescent wyverians looking the same despite fifty years passing, and in the mainline games there is a NPC in Generations Ultimate that mentions wyverians have an "awkwardly long puberty").
