Exploring our world one hike and one adventure at a time, together!
We own Hike On Guides, love the outdoors, and work hard to protect and enjoy open spaces. Together since 1997, we’ve spent much of that time in the great outdoors. Today we work, live and play in the Catskills, but over the years, we’ve been all over the northeast US! Moe thru hiked the Appalachian Trail ('16), and has also thru hiked the Long Path, Northville-Placid Trail, and Cohos Trail. Jeff's got some thru-hiking to catch up on, but has thru hiked the Northville Placid Trail and hiked extensively throughout the northeast.
The Hiker Trash Husbands is our effort to provide positive LGBTQ+ representation in the hiking world. We look forward to showcasing our own hiking adventures as gay hikers, along with finding other queer outdoors folks to highlight and celebrate.

Hey boys, love you two. Im doing Madison this weekend! Any trail suggestions for a vaguely out of shape 40 year old lol?
Easiest ascent to the hut is via Valley Way trail, which starts at the Appalachia Trailhead. From there take the Appalachian Trail up to the summit of Madison. Go back down the way you came up. Every other approach is longer and or steeper (or both).
Patiently waiting for your White Mtn & Maine video.
We’ve been working our way thru Moe’s old pics and videos to see what we can pull together.
@HikerTrashHusbands Super cool stuff. Doing the 4ks on the weekends and found your stuff recently. Watched thru alot of AT thru hike stuff and your NH hikes. Glad I found your channel!
@@buckaroobanzai2551 Awesome of the 4000-footers! Glad you've enjoyed the videos - we've got some new NH content coming up after a few more videos from our Arkansas trip. Thanks for watching and maybe we'll run into you in NH!!
Happy birthday Moe!!
Thank you 😊
Given what I know? You wouldn't believe what you guys hiked through. 🍿😐 You guys see anything "strange" on your hike by any chance?
Just a great section of trail
Good videos.
Thank you!
WOW..LOOKS LIKE A GREAT ADVENTURE..BE SAFE !!!
It sure was! Loved the hike and the amazing view from the Imp Face!
Mount Tremper = best views of any of the Catskill Fire Towers. Nice video!
They are some great views! Glad you enjoyed the video.

Beautiful! And that cute little chipmunk 🐿️

So good
👍
Nice video. The views are awesome. Thanks for sharing. subd & 👍22
Thanks!
Looks like the highlight was Imp Face. Seemed like you had the trail to yourself. I’ll bet folks use this trail to reach the Carters
Yes, definitely the Imp Face, but overall it’s a nice loop (especially without snow) for a 3-4 hour hike that’s relatively moderate for White Mountain standards.
I’ve gone up that way to do a big loop of the Carters. Ever been to the Imp campsite? I’d like to check it out at some point.
I haven’t been to the Imp Camp, but it’s on the list of places for us to further explore.
@RhodySeth, just got back from a Wildcats-Carter-Moriah traverse. We backpacked it. Stayed at Carter Notch Hut and Imp Shelter. Imp Shelter was brand new in 2017. I highly recommend staying there.
@@OutdoorsWithJohnUSA good to know, thanks John!
@@OutdoorsWithJohnUSAthanks for the info!
Imp trail.? Interesting names. Amazing range. I like the snow line at the peak.
Not sure where the name comes from, but it’s a great hike and you can’t beat the view from the Imp Face/Cliff itself.
Beautiful nature
It sure is!
I was there a few weeks ago and to me, this is one of the most beautiful trail closest to NYC. Nice video guys!
Glad you enjoyed the hike and the video! It sure is a beautiful mountain and a great hike. Hope you check out our other videos too - lots of Catskills’ hikes
Gorgeous view. The Catskills are beautiful, and I hope they make a comeback.
One of the best in the Catskills
Looks rugged like some of the cat trails. Cool vids of new hampshire.
It had its rough sections, but the view and the waterfall were worth it!
You guys are bloody adorable!
Thanks! ❤️
damn, full day! nice job fellas
Definitely a big hike! We enjoyed dinner that night lol
Absolutely gorgeous views!
💯
Colors are amazing... GOD'S COUNTRY..
It’s a beautiful spot!
If you haven't done the Bemis brook trail to the end, it's well worth it. Pretty short, and 3 awesome waterfalls. In 20 years of hiking I was too focused on the big falls, and never went to see the 3 on Bemis brook. Coliseum falls was my favorite.
Good to know! Going to go back and bring Moe this time and take the side trail out to the other cliff above Frankenstein Cliff and we will definitely go down along the Bemis Brook Trail - sounds like it’s worth it!
What - what a great area - LOVED the falls!
It’s really beautiful! It’s one of those spots we’ve drive by for ages saying we’ve got to visit sometime and then finally did! Definitely going back with Moe to show him and to explore the other side trails.
Love this hike!! Been to the Falls but not the Cliff.
The cliff is well worth the climb! Great spot to kick back on a beautiful day and enjoy a long lunch.
Beautiful! Haven't done the Frankenstein Cliff Loop yet. Nor have I seen a bear in the woods yet. Drats!
I guess what they say about bear populations growing are true because I’ve now run into more in the last few years than I ever did for like 20 years before that. We’d driven by so many times I finally said let’s just do it. Turns out it’s a fun little loop - great evening option, which also avoids the crowds.
A couple suggestions: 1 Go in winter. Beautiful! And you may get to watch climbers. 2. Go back and take that side trail. Two pretty falls and a good short hike anytime of year!
Moe has already requested that gets to go so we’ll be sure to get the side trail this time. As it was, the sun was setting when I got to truck so I didn’t want to tempt fate!
Enjoyed the hike, great video!
Thank you 😊
Love the hiking trail and views. The Falls were Awesome!!!
It was a great hike and we’re glad you enjoyed coming along!
What an interesting hike, beautiful nature. Thanks for sharing and liking 5. best wishes
Many thanks! It really was a great hike with lots to see and experience.
What a beautiful hike! Those views! 🤩 Was it slippery on the way down? Some spots looked pretty slick!
Not too bad on the way down. The trail that I took up the Frankenstein Cliff would have been slippery than the trails I came down by Arethusa Falls. All in a good hike with relatively good footing.
@@HikerTrashHusbandsI went down. Intentionally on my butt. You sit down, you lower yourself, live another day.
@@beckiejani7782love it ❤
Peakbag it. Yeahhh!!!!! You can do it !
👍
Thanks for sharing. Love the videos you guys make. Gives me a good preview of hikes I plan to do in the Catskills or to relive ones I have already done. It's been my experience that the miles indicated on the trail sign err on the side of being too low. For example when I got to the trail junction for Batavia to Escarpment it resd .9 of a mile to Blackhead but it took me two hours to get to the summit of Blackhead. I know I am a slow hiker but I find it hard to believe it took me two hours to go just under a mile. It generally takes me about a half hour to go one mile. I can only assume the distance given is if were a straight line and doesn't account for vertical ascents and descents.
We’re glad to make and share! We really enjoy being able to share our adventures and hopefully a little wisdom along the way. Tend to agree with you on signs and mileage, but you’d be surprised at how much you slow down on the real steep stuff in the Catskills. We average around 2 miles an hour, but we know certain areas knock us down to an hour or more per mile. Real steep ups, and just really bad trails (which we have a lot of on our NH hikes) always slow us down. We usually plan with a 1.5 mph pace, knowing we’ll be faster some of the time and much slower some of the time.
Did Blackhead loop trail clockwise yesterday. I have to say so far it has been the easiest high peaks hike I have done in the Catskills. From the parking lot to the Batavia Kill trail up to the Escarpment trail was an absolute breeze. Of course it got pretty tough after that for the rest of the way to the summit of Blackhead. I stopped frequently to rest and catch my breath but I finally made it after about 3 hours. Except for one section, the trail west to Lockwood Gap and then back to Batavia was rather tolerable, especially when compared to the experience of going back down Wittenberg to Woodland Valley two weeks ago. Oh, and there was no log book in the trail registration box, so I had to rip a page out of my hiking journal and write my info on that. Oh, and that switchback section felt like an eternity.
It’s a beautiful loop and you’re right, besides the piece from the Batavia Kill Trail Junction to the summit of Blackhead, the rest of the trail is a really enjoyable hike. The descent from Lockwood Gap can be a bit endless too, but not overly difficult. Glad you got out and enjoyed it!
Thought about you both yesterday! Did the Austin Brook but continued on to the end - Gentian Pond Campsite. Hey Moe!!!!!! (sorry couldn't avoid the literary allusion😂), you may have syayed there at the nice shelter when you did the AT! We're gonna check out these places now. Thanls!
❤️❤️ Moe hiked past, but remembers that shelter!
That is very beautiful scenery. 🙂
The Wichitas are a stunning area.
I did this exact hike last year ❤️
It’s a good one!!
Fantastic work, this looks and feels amazing man! Lovely hike 🥾
Thank you, we really appreciate the kind words and support.
