Dogwood is number 5 on the btu chart I looked at. I know of a particular tree that breaks the stereotypes of a dogwood being a small tree... I found the conversation enjoyable, humorous, and insightful. I am a noisy neighbor at times, actually they "check" on me if the axe is not echoing or the saws screaming...that has to be aggravating...excellent session sir, I enjoyed it...

How is this at chopping and do you know if there is a queue where are you have to wait before pre-ordering
@axe17962 ай бұрын
It's a great chopper, probably better at that than a splitter! They historically have a year or two wait.
@blakeg70622 ай бұрын
I got a question for you. I’ve noticed that you have both the forest and the splitting ax. I have their finnish splitting maul on order. Do you feel like getting a splitting ax In addition to the maul would be a waste of money? I was looking for more of an all-arounder to go with the splitting maul
@axe17962 ай бұрын
@@blakeg7062 Hey! I have swung the splitting maul in country. It's big but not super heavy. Hard to say without knowing how you plan to use them. For cutting up trees into rounds with a saw, I would recommend one of the felling axes to compliment it. The splitting axe punches above it's size but a feller gives you more flexibility. That all being said, if all you are doing with any of them is splitting cut rounds, then the splitting axe would be my pick.

@axe17962 ай бұрын
Well I've never split too big sycamore but I would think that would be the worst of those three. Ash should be easier than this stuff and hickory just behind that.

No, my bro makes knives and when I wants one extra sharp I let him take care of it. That being said, some 400-800 sand paper and a leather strop with some polishing compound can really touch it up nicely.

Hey Do you sharp your steel wedges or it is not necessary?
@axe17963 ай бұрын
Hey! 1. It's not necessary, in the way that a maul doesn't have to be sharp. That being said, I would rather always have a sharp axe/maul than a dull one. 2. I do sharpen them when I clean off the chunks that mushroom on the striking end but never to any crazy level. Steel wedges often drive through the rounds into the ground, and too fine of an edge will just get dented or chipped. Also, I have to stack wedges and they bang off each other from time to time... A nice convex edge, like on an axe is good but no need to pop hairs.

Im about 3 months in and split maybe 2 cords with mine. I feel about the same way. If its easy splitting wood, its really nice to swing and I also really like the handle. (Its grippy when wet, but not enough to tear up your hands) I usually pair it with an Adler super splitter to break the big stuff up, then switch to the axe
