Econ Lessons

Econ Lessons

Hi folks! I am a Ph.D. student in Poland and teach college economics in the US.
Thought experiments in the history of economics with some humor.
I look at the great economists of the past and their theories, relate them to today, and make them relevant to your life.
e.g.
Economics of the Great Depression
Adam Smith
Karl Marx
Ludwig von Mises
John Maynard Keynes
F. A. Hayek
Knut Wicksell
Monetary Economics
Digital Currency
Stock Market
Geopolitics

By learning economics theory, one will be better prepared to objectively analyze business and life choices, making your life richer on many levels. I will explore today's relevant economic ideas floating around the collective unconsciousness and use objectivity and research to separate hype from facts.

I do not have all the answers, but I love exploring ideas and searching. Please join me.

Ph.D. candidate year 5 Economics University of Gdańsk, Poland

Basically the Russian Economy is so bad that to register growth, you really don't need to do much to improve things.

Just go nuclear, but ask the nuclear industry to develop nuclear technologies specifically designed to take nuclear waste into the mix (so-called third generation, or three plus generation reactor designs), or run pretty much on nuclear waste (fourth generation reactor designs). Currently, there is enough nuclear waste lying around globally to run the entire planet on that waste for centuries (not even talking about the waste that is still going to come in during the rest of this century). You would be killing two birds with one stone, producing basically all the energy you would need globally for the foresee-able future, while at the same time getting rid of a problem, namely nuclear waste. If it is technically possible to combine those technologies with small modular reactors, and micro and mini reactors, start with those, because you can build a lot of them in a factory production line setting in a fairly short time period, compared to a regular reactor complex, which takes decades to set up and build. This would give us all the energy needed to deal with most of our current problems, from climate change, to energy and water and food scarcity, plus there would be no more need for any fossil fueled energy systems, cleaning up shipping and air travel by switching to cleaner alternative fuels, electrify roads so you could charge any vehicle on the road wirelessly, needing smaller battery-packs, but the most it could give us is peace, and time, to look into other forms of energy creation, like fusion, geo-thermal (there are some really interesting things going on on that field as well), maybe even work towards the development of things like anti-matter power production in the longer run. And, of course, become a multi planet (or as i call it, a multi world) species, by leaving the planet, and start colonizing, and developing, our solar system, by moving to other heavenly bodies, and, eventually, start building space colonies.

The world will be a better place. The opposition's politicians won't be locked up, churches won't be closed down, TV stations won't be silenced, minorities will have a vote and a voice, big corps won't be owning the farmlands. Now who needs to win there to achieve this ;)

It is a classical surivorship bias mistake . Check the Wiki. You can't compare a 100 years old item, survived several generation to a random sample from another process. Simply saying, all rubbish sickle scraped 99 years ago. You can find only the ones that still usable after 100 years, means these are the best ones made back then . I have nail puller made in germany in the 30s. More supperior than the ones that you can buy now. But, it doesn't proove anything about the capability of the industry back then . It could be a very expensive, heavy duty tool, made for military. But I don't know- I haven't got enought data to make an assesment. Could be more interesting to check a random US made sickle with a random Russian one. Or the cheapest one from both source . Sampling is hard and expensive.

Whenever a leftists claims proof, they use the words “definitive, exhausting, overwhelming evidence. Scientific knowledge and factual evidence. So much of it. It’s hard to know where to begin. It’s everywhere. All over the place. Only a fool can’t see it.” And then proceed to use misdirection and metaphors while sprinkling in science words.

This is all garbage. The Russian economy is the best economy in Europe. They have huge military industrial capacity. They have all the mineral and energy resources to make them. Europe does not! Also Russia has over 30000 volunteers a month wanting to join the Russian military. Thats not including mercenaries from central Asia, north korea, and Africa. They have a huge back up called China who's industrial capacity literally dwarfs the West. And China has stated that if Russia requests China to come in and help, China will be there in a heartbeat. Because they dont want warmongers like the US at their doorstep. Believe me, when China does things, they do it big. Everything they do is large scale which dwarfs the west. Napoleon Bonaparte even predicted "let china sleep, for when she awakes, she will shake the world".

This probably could represent the real events. The key thing that this model does not reflect (and in fact cannot) is Russia's and their allies reaction to the deteriorating state of the country. It's likely the leadership would shift gears one way or another to prevent a collapse, or just to react to battlefield losses or successes. They could go full communist and communize the private property, or China could ramp up its support for Russia to avoid having an unstable neighbor. Or maybe China would pour into Russia to reclaim territories they consider historically Chinese. Static models cannot predict that.

Ukraine has been targeting refineries and refined product storage but mostly not targeting crude operations and infrastructure because they (and allies) want Russia to be forced to sell crude instead of refined products because that keeps most of the profits out of Russia’s hands while keeping the crude on the market. Oil prices stay reasonable and Russia doesn’t get the real value because they need to sell crude out of desperation for funds.
