Thank you very much. This was the first time for me to hear his speaking voice. Sounds like a cool guy.

Alan wasn't so socially awkward, as many have said. Very articulate, at least when discussing music.

He loved to sleep outside in nature, 50 yards up the hill from whatever house he was staying at the time

Some bios claim Wilson killed himself, in an OD. But actually, he did not even do drugs. He had a bad case of insomnia, and regularly took legal sleeping pills to manage this life long condition . When he died, he was found with a bottle of mostly unused sleeping pills. His death was officially ruled accidental. Sleeping pills build up in your system over time, if you use them regularly. And quite often this happens, you simply don’t wake up because you have much more of the drug in your system than you realized. This is what happened to the Beatles’ Brian Epstein as well. Another insomniac, it was the build up in his system over time, from regular use, that killed him.

Blind Owl's performance on Refried Boogie on the Livin The Blues album is enormous. That chunky intro and his guitar solo relaxes me.

Besides Wilson’s technical knowledge of The Blues and music in general, he sang with the feeling required to be a blues singer. He was a gentle soul. I saw Canned Heat many times at The Boston Tea Party.

Wilson blossomed into the dedicated musician/historian because The Blues grabbed him by his soul. He found his purpose and it lit him up. I admire him greatly.

Al Wilson had a great analytical mind. He knows exactly what works with his sound and what doesn't. Great musician. The Blues was his life.

He's so thoughtful and articulate. The way he dissects the music into small pieces for a blues player is surprising. He also really know his blues players. He seems to be the eternal student. What a sweetheart.
