I read somewhere that the heads at the BBC hated the show but could not take it off the air because the audiences loved it...... sometimes being loveable just works

OMG, 1ST TIME hearing of Humphries. So freaking funny . Humor use to be this way. No questions, just laughs. I thoroughly enjoyed.

He was not “the” gay icon of the 70s. You are forgetting Truman Capote, Andy Warhol, Janet Jackson, Madonna, Joe Dallesandro, Divine, Tab Hunter, Rock Hudson, Elton John, and Sal Mineo to name just a few.

I have no idea how I got hooked on watching this show as a kid. I think it was because they took their basic jobs so seriously. And that nurse with her seXy voice & face, and it was a funny show!

I wonder, does anyone have any footage of the AYBS cast from the televised PBS pledge drives? I remember Mollie Sugden on Memphis PBS station asking for pledges.

Mr. Humphries is my hero. While he could be discreet on the job, he could also revel in who he was. John Inman always said Mr. Humphries was just a sheltered boy. He was discreet about LGBTQ+ issues and I appreciate that. No reason to except him to be a warrior. Just give us some sugar to make the medicine go down easy, as Mary Poppins said.

One of the best things I’ve been told about Mr Humphris, is that the actor who played Mr Lucas was actually a homosexual. He never found Mr Humphries offensive but hilarious. They remained good friends till Mr Lucas died. I believe it was from cancer
