I loved my 240 14hp w 48in deck. Used it for 20 years and a gx48 walk behind in a small mower business. Had 2300 hours on it. Shame jd decided not to make anymore.

Nice setup ya got there. I mounted my 60 gal. tank on big castors, so If I had to move it, it rolls out to where I want it. Works great and isolates the vibrations.

Thanks Paul. You've taken the mystery out of deck maintenance. I bought my BX22 used and have the front loader, backhoe, box blade, rake, grapple, and tiller. I was thinking about a flail for weed control but I've found a used deck that might do just fine and eliminate my walk behind mower on the lawns. At 73 I'm getting lazy about mowing. Bearing changes might be fun to watch.

You might want to try "truck bed coating" for the under side of the deck. I've always used the "Dupli-Color Truck Bed" brand. The debris will still wear it but it lasts a little longer than paint. I think it is also "slicker".

Nice video - thank you. I noticed you have a nice grass catcher on back of your tractor. Would you mind sharing where you purchased that from? Thanks again.

I got a 72inch iseki deck very similar to yours, when i change my gearbox oil i take the tension off the spring to disengage the outer spindles and ducktape a drill to the pto shaft and spin the oil up to get any metal particles that are sitting on the bottom off the bottom, the oil comes out aerated holding any metal particles suspended in the oil and it looks white its that bubbly, after a wile the air goes and i check how much metal came out.

Does he mow with his? I’m having an issue with mine. When I put the deck in its raised locked position and rotate the adjustment knob on the floor it don’t seem to do anything. I can feel it getting harder or easier to turn but don’t seem to adjust anything. Help.

Hello, gentlemen! I just stumbled onto this video and am hugely impressed with Richie's JD 240. Richie's right...they stopped making those for a time, but I just bought a S240 last summer, so the beast is back! It still has the Kawasaki engine (primary selling point for me), V-twin 18.5 hp. I hope it gives me as many years of service as Richie's, but I know his came from a time when they were built more solidly, body-wise. Take care and best of luck!

The S240 is a cheap very light duty lawn tractor. That old 240 is a quality built garden tractor. Not even remotely the same. The numbers don't specify anything anymore.

It's funny to see people trying to throw the snow 20 feet when it needs to go 3 😁. I was just waiting for some random rock sitting in the snow to go flying through that window. Don't get me wrong... sometimes it's got to be thrown a long ways to get it where it needs to be and the impeller mod seems to really work well for this. I just laugh when people get excited about being able to throw it so far when it can be dumped so close. I watched one guy in a video throw all of his snow all the way across the street onto his neighbors lawn area.

J D doesnt make them like this anymore. My only real problem is with the brakes. The shoes wear down enough (still plenty of pad) that they quit working. They are expensive to replace. So I had the local welder build up the shoes 3/16 or so then filed them flat so assembled they would fit in the drum. Presto brakes work I hope for another bunch of years.
