I found that removing that pinion gear is a piece of cake; however, putting it back on is a completely different animal.

The most preformance come from the commutator cleaning/lubing, properly done is the best thing you can do to your cars. I remember reading a slot car book (in 1973, i was in 3rd grade) to make your cars go fast, the very first thing it said was "never touch your power supply", well that is very bad advice. Over the years I kept upping the voltage, setting on 25V and a NOS button to get 40V. This single mod, made my 30+ cars and my brothers all fast and everybody that came over, instead of modding each car would of cost a fortune.

They say don't mess with your power supply cause it can potentially shorten the life of the motor

Was gonna spend $400 and buy a few newer Mega G+ Cars and after running theses new lighter, faster Cars. I am not really sure if it's going to be worth it. I have to say that the Mega G is a lot of fun to drive, even on the 22V!!! I am having trouble getting anything above 1/8th throttle and on the 12V the G+ is still a little insane !!! The straight line speeds are radical !!! But that first corner, its game over :(

My bet is you would be much happier if you had a better controller. When you start messing with faster inline HO cars at higher voltages, having the right controller with the right resistance is much more important. It can be the difference between blazing fast lap times and an undriveable car. For cars like SG+ or other inline chassis, high ohm controllers like the stock controllers that come in box sets can be like an on/off switch rather than a smooth increase in power over the entire range of the trigger. For a SG+ at 22V, I'd go with something like a 35 ohm or 45 ohm controller.

Quick question, have you ever tried to run a Mega G+ Slot Car around a Track on 22V ? Because I have, and any trigger input above around a 1/16" just jumps the Car off the track ! It's not actually controllable!! Maybe it's needing a little stronger traction magnets, or a little better pilot... My Super G & Mega G Cars are both most impressive running the same track!!! The Mega G+, not so much fun...

Since your voltage is higher, your gun needs a resistor with more ohms (I run 20Ω resistor), this will give it better throttle control. I have a few G+ cars, but we have much better racing with magnatraction cars, being able to slide the cars is much more fun to us, we run 25V and have NOS button to run 40V, on my custom power supply, it outputs 40V of two channels (one for each lane), I have a special switch on the supply to output 80V to both lanes :)

What's the best thing to use for cleaning the track, itself? I've heard everything from Formula 409, automotive engine degreaser and even WD-40 can be used, but what's best?

Ok this is a slightly dumb question, but when you say 30 weight oil, do you mean like 10w30 or 5w30 motor oil as in regular engine oil for real cars? Or is more along the lines of 3 in 1 oil or oil used for like model trains that are found in hobby shops? Thanks in advance!

Your basic push mower should run on 30 weight oil. So Briggs and Stratton and Kohler both market 30 weight oil also.
