    Extremely awesome! I’m going down this path myself. I have made up a 338 & a 358 dummy . I’m leaning towards the 338 version myself. But My minds not fully made up yet . Any advice to offer or things to consider when embarking on a Lee Enfield bigger bore build ?

  • @Ballisticstudies
    @Ballisticstudies5 күн бұрын

    Hi Cobber, the one issue with .358 in the Enfield is that it doesn't feed all that well (some projectiles feed OK, others not so). If you are leaning toward .338 already, I would suggest you keep on this route due to feeding issues. All the best.

    @@Ballisticstudies thanks mate. I am going with the 338 . If I’m paying for a reamer I’m thinking of a body reamer with as much shoulder angle as possible upto 28*-30* . If I can still have that feed ! Then neck & throat whatever caliber to suit . I’m trying 1st with the Grendel & mating that to the 303 case & seeing if that will feed. It has to feed most importantly , I’ll settle on the std shoulder if I have to , but would like to get as many benefits out of the case / action as possible. Thanks mate.

    My 308 weighs just shy of 7lb with suppressor. It's a Model 7 that wears a VX-3i scope in 2.5-8x36 (planning to replace with a VX-3HD 3.5-10x40 to use the CDS dial), bedded carbon fiber wildcat composite stock w/ Kickeez cheek riser, #3 Contour Lilja 1:10 twist 18" tight bore barrel, LRI fluted bolt, Banish Backcountry using a Q muzzle break. The overall length of the barrel with suppressor is 23.5" and it's the best rifle I've ever shot. It's accounted for more game for my family over the past ~10 years or so than any other rifle I've owned from squirrel to deer. My favorite loadings include a subsonic 150gr cast bullet squirrel load, 130gr close quarters deer load (specifically for hunting in densely populated areas), 190gr subsonic hunting load, 168gr A-Max and 178gr ELD-X range load, and multiple experimental loads for fun and cast bullet loadings. The reason I don't switch to a 6.5CM as my main rifle is because I can't foresee the 6.5 having nearly as much flexibility as this one.

    Sad we cannot buy your excellent looking products in America. Why is that? It's not like people would not pay the shipping fees. These are bar none the best bedding videos on KZread.

    Yes unfortunately we lost our distributor after their business went down during the lock downs. We can only export bulk surface due to current regulations, but this of course requires a new distributor. Thanks for your kind words.

    Regulations. Government interference is what it is. You're welcome. Hopefully you find a distributor for North America. I am on the other hand going to buy all your books. Those I can get at very good prices. Have a good one.

    Hi there, if you want to, try using CRC silicone 808. In addition to this, I would suggest finishing with a dusting of powdered graphite as per the Matchgrade tips and tricks video. All the best.

    I cannot seem to get the two pins in the trigger group area to punch out. Actually afraid of breaking something I was banging so hard with a punch. I know mine may be staked but holy mackeral. Thinking of leaving those two parts sticking out when I bed.

    It doesn't matter what anybody says fragmenting ammunition will always be better , you dont want complete passthrough you want full impact force dispersed on target with massive expansion and tissue damage , its basically like getting shot 4 times with 1 bullet, people always assume you need more penetration but thats not always the case

    Enlightening. I have a WWII sporterized Mauser 98 that was very poorly bedded in a synthetic stock. I’m first looking at how much of the old bedding I can Dremel away. Thanks for the info. This 30-06 will be a backup gun in my truck in case something goes wrong with my finer rifle. I don’t want to leave an expensive rifle in the truck when I’ve walked mikes away.

    I always thought the point of pillar bedding was to have contact between the action and the pillar. That being said, I am slightly confused as to why the tops of the pillars were ground away. Can you explain why one is better than the other? Thanks

    Great video! I have an opinion question for ya though, 150 grain drt .308 shots within 200 yards for medium size black bears, avg around 300 pounds. Black bears tend to be softer animals as well they don’t have a shield like a pig either. Would this be adequate in you opinion?

    been thinking about this for a while, glad to finally see a video about it. i've been wondering if a no1 mk3 could also be used for such a conversion as the price of .303 british is through the roof and i'd like to actually use it instead of it being an expensive shooter (expensive for my means anyway) and what it could actually cost to do . been hearing a lot of things about the bolt head requiring to be changed for a tougher material and same for the receiver being a bit restrained in term of which pressure it could take. of course the posts i've read are from about 2012 and i think your video has proven them wrong. also been curious about how many rounds the magazine can take. a friend said not more than 7-8 rounds so i thought i'd ask.

    Excellent instruction that greatly helps me get started loading a custom 300 Savage on a 7x57 Mauser action. It was a professional conversion manufactured in 1946 and barely used. It has good potential. The advantages of the larger magazine should be helpful chasing the lands with a 180 or 200 grain Speer Hotcor ,and possibly a 200 Nosler Partition. We got lots of Griz up here, so it is good to bring along a round that can better deal with it just in case..... It would be better than nothing.... The NP would be better for a mix bag hunt, but the NP is now horribly expensive, so I'll use what I got. Thanks for all the excellent information you provide on your website. Top stuff!

    Really cool! How many of the 7.62x54r cartridges will fit into an unmodified No.4 magazine? Will they fit into standard Enfield stripper clips? That barrel looks really nice. Looks like a similar profile to the L42. I hope to turn one myself sometime. Steve

    Still a valid video even today! Im about to embark on this journey - I've bookmarked your retail shop for compound. Ive one question though - when you electrical tape up the recoil lug - is there a danger to use too much, that would make that too fat, that would then result in a loose fit? Guessing one layer is all is required? Howa 1500 application x2...

    Great video sir! I’m shooting out of a .308 Daniel Defense Delta 5 Pro 20”, and just received 2 boxes of Hornady 168gr ELDM in the mail today. Planning to use on whitetails this season. What is your recommendation on shot placements in distance between 50 to 200 yards with this bullet? What is your opinion on neck shot with this bullet? Thanks in advance!
