  Hi, While there are many variables such as the intended application and the climate and elements the bamboo will be subjected to will make a huge impact on its lifespan. “Increasing the shelve-life and durability of bamboo to 50 years or more is possible by applying the appropriate treatments which is also more economical and sustainable in the long run.” (Schröder, Stéphane. “How Durable Is Bamboo?” Guadua Bamboo, www.guaduabamboo.com/blog/durability-of-bamboo.) In short, will the amount of heating and bending applied to bend a bamboo of this diameter and length keep it preserved for 30-40 years: no. It is likely this pole will be further preserved in a boric solution, if not it could need replaced as soon as 1-2 years! Flaming this species of bamboo (large diameter/length) will not fully cure nor leach starches out making it potential food-source for insects and fungi. Flame-curing is generally best for shorter lengths or smaller diameter poles prepared by perforating membranes. This is an amazing sustainable building material that can be applied to practically any application, given attention is paid to select the correct bamboo type and proper preservation technique for the specific criteria.
