    Why not just use color managed workflow and set the input color space to s-log3? Isn't that the same thing but without having to explicitly create a cst node?

  • @DannyGan

    To avoid doing things “under the hood”, you can specify what goes in log color space and what goes to rec709 color space specifically.

    Do you know why when I add the CST on my D-Log M footage, it becomes over exposed and extremely over saturated?

  • @DannyGan
    @DannyGan17 күн бұрын

    Because D-Log M is not actual Log. It’s just Rec.709. Try getting the manufacturer’s LUT from their website for colour management 😊

    Good stuff! How does one get ideas and create different looks like the gold look you talked about? Is it taught someplace or does one just play around with different settings to discover new looks? Having a good grasp of the color palette and color positions on the color wheel would help I guess.

  • @DannyGan
    @DannyGan18 күн бұрын

    Yes and yes, you must first know how to analyse a grade, really break it down to hue, saturation and contrast levels. Being exposed to more looks does help also, whether it's films, commercials or photos.

    I have a question! So, I have always "sandwiched" my grades to work within dwg/aces but you work with the camera's log instead and skip that extra node. Is it for more efficiency? Is that always the case/ best practice? I'm curious! I appreciate videos that show the practical use aka the "but why that choice" answer so I thank you for sharing!

  • @DannyGan
    @DannyGan16 күн бұрын

    Yes, you can sandwich it if you wish to work in DWG, there’s a lot more techniques you can apply but this is a rough framework of the processes. I might make a separate video on DWG & working color spaces.
