I love the song, but I need the backing vocals. They drive the song, making it triumphant sounding and heavily support Diana where it's needed. Diana's isolated lead vocal track is grating by itself, and shows her singing outside of her range.

I was the young guy(17 at the time) who she invited up on the stage and danced with. If anyone knows/remembers during which song it was I would be happy to know!

I love Diana Ross. I can’t stand the way she sings in this video. So nasal and grating. Valisia Lekae leaned into this version of Diana in The Motown Musical, and that is why I couldn’t bring myself to see the show. Diana could always sing beautifully, and I wish Berry would’ve steered her out of the Little Anthony waters during this period.

This aired when i was in college and my friends all came to the room to watch. All the guys mentioned how beautiful she was. All the gals mentioned in the "Tell me again" song - is she going to twirl around in that big purple dress? Then later I got the album at the local record store. It was an event. She is a legend. She is an icon.

That was the whole idea behind the song. Chess records out of Chicago called Motown and asked them if they could have some tips on how to obtain that Motown sound for Franella bass on this track. As you can guess Motown really didn’t give them too much info on what the Motown sound was but somehow they got close enough and they scored a very big hit with this one.

@@jacquelinelowery5589 I could see that but in 1965 Aretha still wasn’t a superstar she was still at Columbia. It was like 1968 when she became Iconic. Aretha probably laughed her ass of knowing how many songs could have been done by her. I wouldn’t be surprised if she played the piano and she would sing the latest hits with her sisters Carolyn and Erma and said girls this could and should have been my hit!!!!

Oh wasn't that so nice of Diana to allow Mary to speak for herself. Mary must have been so grateful that the extraordinary Miss Ross would let such a minor mere mortal be allowed to speak on behalf of the Goddess. Wasn't Mary, Florence and Cindy so lucky to have been able to follow Miss Ross and breathe in a little of her expelled air from both ends :-)

Diana's kids must listen to these old interviews out of curiosity. Listening to how she speaks fibs about Florence...I wonder what they think about their mother and her narratives. Now they can hear all of her early b.s. and it must really challenge their thoughts of what she claims versus truth.
