Im very fortunate to own Erics 56 Fender Stratocaster that he used in tandem with a Les Paul back then. He owned it for over 40 years and through all of 10CC and on 3 Paul McCartney albums!
Easily my favorite beach boys song pre pet sounds era
I posted this years ago: kzread.info/dash/bejne/qWWuwa5veqi6mbA.htmlsi=Zp4IJiiX-BapoxQe ...which I believe to be the intended version. In the version here, the baseline after the extra lyrics sound out of time.
@@andylinton2798 wow, thank you... The plot thickens!
@@smacreavyindeed! How fascinating!
@@smacreavyActually - here’s a story: Several years ago I was working at a radio station when the presenter told me he was going to be interviewing Kevin Godley, (on the phone) and asked me to suggest what song he should play beforehand. I said yes, play this version of I’m Not in Love ! He did so, and afterwards Godley said “wow, I haven’t heard that version since we recorded it - and I still think we were right to take out those lyrics!”
Thank you for your work in the transfer and for posting. I bought this in 77 (huge 10CC fan) and I really liked it. (Sadly my box set got mislaid or lent? in the late 80’s) A difficult album for some and not all of it works for me, but the perfect example of the difference between music then and now. The innovation, production and songwriting was brilliant and they got to licence a short section for a rather expensive and famous cinema ad.
That cut 'middle eighth' verse (Don't feel let down.....etc) brings a whole new vibe to this classic, and it still retains the 'big boys don't cry' bit to boot! If only it didn't fade out early in this version of the master recording (the fade is much like the single release from here in the U.S.), it would have been the ultimate version. As it is presented here, it's still awesome none the less and brings out nuances you don't hear in the final release. Thank you for sharing this!
WOW, great job filming the looping of the tape, I could never quite imagine what was exactly meant by the looping, but now I SEE. well done.
@@ELECTR0HERMIT 👍🙂
Criminally under viewed!
I remember this. You could have knocked me out with a damp lettuce when that curtain opened! Anyone know if Brian ever played Night Time live again?
Brian ❤
AMAZING SONG !!! CRYSTAL SOUND !!! 70S WILL BE THE DECADE OF THE BEST WRITTEN MUSIC .
Never find a Group that could Harmonize like The Beach Boys.
Who else came here from The Album Years recommendation…?
Of course 😅
Yup
@@michaelantonyaustin Hi Michael. Interesting! Do tell... where can I see The Album Years? Thanks.
@@smacreavy Herec on YT! 😉 Just look for The Album Years. It’s Steve Wilson & Tim Bowness.

I was there, three of us under an umbrella , I still have the t-shirt, amazing day, will never forget it, we missed Steve coming on for the encore but heard him being introduced as we trudged back to my Mk 1 Ford Escort in the mud, shame he did not play on more of the gig, such memories , brings a tear, thanks for this and the 10cc gems, the solo Steve stuff and more, gives me a buzz but also sadness at the passing of time and some people

My God I didn't realize this was available Sean! Mike had told me to make sure I didn't miss that year's convention. And i did. I'd left my tickets in my office in the West End where alarm systems prevented me from going back in to retrieve them until the Monday. I knew there'd been a change of venue from the previous years, but couldn't remember where and it was on the tickets. I tried phoning but Mike and Margaret had already left the house. Anyway it wasn't until a couple of weeks later I was on my way home on the Central Line flicking through my copy of the weekly music paper Sounds, when I saw the headline "Good Vibrations in Greenford". Well to say I was gutted would be an understatement. So thankyou for putting this up after all these years. Finally after 36 years nearly, I got to do the next best thing to actually being there. I remember the Lets Go Away for a While competition by the way. It was at the Harrow and Wealdstone centre near where Mike lived. Heather Smallbone who used to run The Beach Boys Appreciation Society was one of the other entries if I recall. I won the quiz competition that year and received the whole back catalogue of Stomp magazines as a prize , which as I'd only found out about Stomp a few months previously, was very welcome!!! I hadn't realised the version of LGAFAW on your first album was different to the one played at the Convention for the competition. Both are great though. Well done!
@@hunnagazunna Fascinating - and thanks so much!
Classic masterpiece incredible piece music
I wish American Top 40 had been in broadcast during this period. The songs that were offered during 1964 were pure, shining gold.
It was the one convention we missed😢thankfully met him a couple of times in later years. Fantastic! Amazing ❤
Goosebumps …. Great upload … thank you Sean 👌👍🏼xx
Love this…. Play it everyday 🤗👌🥰… Eric’s voice, guitar playing 💙💙💙 be still my beating heart 🫣🤣
excellent video.. being from the 70's I always thought 10cc were particularly advanced in what they were doing.. outstanding vocal harmonies.. captivating lyrics.. unexpected melody changes and superbly composed.. one hell of a massive effect on me as a teenager.. my god even now in 2024 I cant get through *Im not in love ..without having tears in my eyes.. 😳 talk about Big boys dont cry!! 😂 Thanks for this video.. fantastic xx
Fluff freeman, Jimmy young, Kenny Everett Terry wogan, Ray Moore, Ed stewart and Steve Wright.God we were spoilt back then. Please take us back!!!!!!!
Dear Sean! You have made the world a great service by providing this masterpiece availabe to the public. I've been a fan of Lol and Kevin since the start in 1974, and before. I managed to get hold of a copy of this triple album in 1981. I cherish it dearly. They've made a tremendous historical timeless piece of musical history. My eyes are filled with nostaligic tears listening to this piece of music. Give my regards and respect to Lol and Kevin if you have the possibility. Also cheers to all absent friends taking parts in creation of this incredible piece of art. Sarah Vaughan, Peter Cook and others. I am now 61 years old. I will listen to this til I die, and I will also spread it to all the young ones around me. Vänliga hälsningar Per in Sweden
@@PerHämäläinen Beautifully said, thank you!
It didn't sell very well at all. I have it on cassette tape. I think they are fascinating, one of a kind.
La mejor voz que escuche, un verdadero angel, hermosa e inolvidable 😢😢
Have had the vinyl since 77, just got a 5cd reissue beautifully packaged with amazing sound.
incredible...
Imagine how much cocaine was consumed on this tour! 😄
Paul’s voice is in fine shape.
I THINK THE BEACH BOYS ARE THE GREATEST BAND THAT EVER PLAYED IN THE EARLY YEARS OF MUSIC.
All that is so lovely - thank you guys❤
I was in a real Beach Boys mood in the summer of 1987 (I was 17 y/o), and obsessively rented/watched this doco on VHS while also reading the Steven Gaines book
That middle eight is even more mind-blowing in this version
No Bruce Johnson here?
Sorry but not g and c that’s for sure.
That’s da best UTD song I had on a 45 as 9yr old lad in Chorlton Manchester 🇾🇪
My god… I remember having a bad acid trip once and watching this performance, the rendition of Surfer Girl especially sent me overboard.
Great body of music
Wowww. What a great evening and so envious. We are certainly blessed for this video. Thanks for sharing your experience with us.
This concert bought back some good memories of seeing all the beach boys at knebworth and again at margate last june, minus some great names. God bless the beach boys and the members of the group no longer with us. The music will last forever .
Thanks for this concert. Really appreciated it. Charles lloyd sure had some groovy moves during gv. Haha. Americas greatest band.
Mike Love is so handsome, even at 83. His premature balding made him look older as The Beach Boys started out in their teens and early 20’s. But once he figured out hats detract from that look, his fabulous bone structure shone through, and still does.
Best BB documentary I’ve seen yet.
Transported back to a better time in the UK when optimism was in the air 👍👍
Love this. The Hotlegs track has bits that remind me of “Lovely Rita” and a bass line reminiscent of what’s on “Come Together”. Love 10cc. Interviewed both in Hong Kong after their tour of Japan and still remember saying that I would love to hear them work with McCartney. Close. Jeez, I hear lots of brilliant bibs and bobs here.
Now we just nee to AI-isolate the vocal and the instrumental for this version.
Crazy how this documentary that was released in 1985 feels more complete than the one released on Disney+ in 2024.
I clearly remember renting this on VHS tape in 1989 when I was 17 and becoming absolutely obsessed with their music.
@@GeorgeCrocco I am from Germany. My father was a big Beach Boys fan when he was a teen in the 60's. He bought that VHS Tape in the 80's and I saw it in 1988 for the first time, when I was 15. I also became obsessed and listened to all the BB records in my fathers collection. It's still fascinating that this music was created without any digital equipment. I was the only Beach Boys fan in my school, and all the Guns'N Roses and AC/DC fans gave me a hard time.
My favorite 10cc song! Would love to hear the history behind the composition of this masterpiece. Amazing how all the interviews cover other song they did but not this one.
Check out our Consequences 10cc podcast on this very subject! About 90 episodes in, I think?
what a beautiful gem from the past. i'm crying.
My sister is doing her homework on the kitchen table, dad's in the garden, mam is getting tea ready and this on the old Cosser radio. Pure nostalgia.(sigh)
Exactly! Enjoy. 🙂
I'd be interested in hearing from someone more capable in this area. My point/question is, although, it sounds brilliant, is the problem with it that just around the corner immense changes were taking place with technology. Did they fail to consider the possible problem of Technological obsolenscence? Though does, in fact, the newer synthesizers do as good a job? Or any other technology?
Good question! Frankly IMO, synthesisers knocked spots off the Gizmo in terms of practicality and reliability, but that sound has never been matched or emulated!
@@smacreavy Cheers for that. But it's interesting that the sound achieved has remained unique.
