7:40 - Completely miscalculation here. 1700 meters distance to US corvette, torpedo speed 30 knots (55 kph = 15 m/sec) means 113 seconds. In fact no real chance to hit small ship as WW2 corvette.

The Germans would never have been able to pull this off at the distance between the submarine and the destroyer. The G7 torpedo launched by the U-boats armed at a minimum distance of 300 meters. If I am not mistaken the distance between the submarine and the British vessel was considerably less than that.

British Destroyer being portrayed careless and stupid to not grow any suspicions even by not seeing any enemy U-Boat's white surrender flag. The other British Destroyer's crews were sensitive enough to start noticing something bit unusual. (The U-Boat still slowly drifted with front towards their Destroyer, despite its crews out to water) But they just could not immediately make any reaction decisions with the admiral away onto the U-boat! (Likely because they worried if any preemptive neutralizing counter-attack would also kill the admiral at the U-Boat. Or at least the Destroyer knew it could not keep going forward, even if not staying still before the admiral returns)
