What we fail to understand is that.... That is the lions home. And if he were walking through our living room.... What would we do? They have no where else to go. Bad humans. I think the lion was curious and was polite. Stay out of nature if you're not fighting for them to have their own space through government and state.

Just last month in March, a cougar attacked and killed a 21 year old in California. He was with his 18 year old brother looking for antler sheds.

Whith the pure benefit of hindsight, I'm wondering if having neutral energy like that is confusing to the animal. You are either prey or predator, and its trying to make up its mind. And speaking gently just keeps you in ambiguous land. I always carry bear spray with me, and where legally permitted, a gun as well. I was briefly stalked by a cougar once, and my immediate instinct was to take out my spray bottle, but not deploy it, and instead run, faking anger, directly at the cougar, full speed. In half a second, it turned tail, and literally blasted shit as it ran away, for me never to see it again. Same thing the couple of times I encountered an overly inquisitive black bear that would not leave me alone while backpacking. I immediately got big, into my extremely angry voice and charged at them. Same result, poop included. I'm not sure I would try that with a brown bear, but frankly I would play it by ear. For me to progression is very simple. For me the progression is pre-programmed and simple. Angry charge first, if that doesn't work deploy bear spray, and only if that does not work use my gun. Option A of the triumvirate has worked every single time. But I personally advise not using that gentle "please eat me" voice with a predator. Dear God that took some balls to do it the way you did! I would feel as safe doing that as if I just slathered myself in peanut butter and berries in front of a bear, or covered myself with raw steaks before a cougar. Honestly, there's only so much you can tempt fate, Mr. Evil Knievil . . .

I was in a car with my brother and sister going to the mall during the holidays. We were staying at my parents house in suburban Sacramento. Leaving the neighborhood I saw a mountain lion on the front porch of a house. It was facing the door and then turned only its head around and looked right into my eyes. I started repeatedly saying "just saw a mountain lion" over and over, and can admit my tone wasnt very convincing, as I couldnt believe it myself. About 4 years later there was a youtubr video posted where a mountain lion was captured on a doorbell cam. The homes in the background were familiar looking. Then, I realized it looked like my parents neighborhood. Finally, in the description, it said it was in North Natomas. I zoomed in and realized it was my parents neighborhood and the experience years earlier came back to me and was dumbfounded. Shocked. Not only had I realized I wasn't crazy all those years ago, but that the lion likely remained in that same area for so many years unseen. Weirdest thing ever.

The thing to keep in mind is lions never expose themselves to real prey. These cats didn't know for sure what you were. The fact that they showed themselves tells me they were testing you out. The second cat crossing the foor bridge pretty much revealed his intentions. As soon as you took a step towards him the game was up and he backed off. I've come across a few lions in 50 years of working in the Idaho forests and they all took off. Stand your ground, look big and tough and never back down or worse yet run. Yes, a can of bear spray is a great thing to carry. Other than hunting season I never carried a firearm in the woods (not allowed on my job).

I’ve watched this video over and over, so at the 3:18 mark, the video stops and restarts with the puddy tat walking across a footbridge. And so why did the video stop abruptly and restart in a different area? Are they in the same area? Two different cats for sure, the markings on feet are different, as one has black on top of front feet on the toes, both with black on footpads, both have black just below the nose. The second cat coming across footbridge is younger and a bit smaller IMO.

What NOT to do if you see a lion. Dont baby talk them, and don't act afraid. Originally this cat was probably just curious. Ive yelled and chased them 4 times starting from 10 feet distance to 30 ft when they first appeared, and they always run like the wind. They're so fast! Exception is one time from about 40 feet, that one just picked up his pace a little bit, got to the property border, about 50 feet, stopped and looked at me, and then left. And I was yelling LOUD at him. That encounter changed my world for quite a while. Couldnt figure that cat out because it was the second day in a row it had come into my camp even though it knew I was right there both times. ( I live off grid in the woods in my bus, and Im outside a lot.)
