    Mr. McBride, first and foremost thank you for your dedicated years of service to the the Line Trade/lifestyle and secondly for sharing this content with the current and future generations of lineman. I’m not a lineman yet(prospect working on going to lineman school this October) the wealth of knowledge, experience, wisdom and camaraderie you take with you is irreplaceable. Again thank you for this glimpse into the life of a Lineman.

  • @oldlinedude

    There are several outfitters that offer pack trips around Colorado. Just google Horse Pack Trips in Colorado and you will find them. There are some around Silverton and Durango that will take you on the Colorado Trail where we were. The Colorado Trail follows the Continental divide across the state. That was a perfectly awesome vacation for my Dad and I. Sadly that was the last horsepack adventure we got to go on together, as he has passed on since then.

    Hi Mike, May I ask what is the best to of year to camp there? I have a brother that lives in Montrose, and I am planning a trip up there most likely for the coming summer.

  • @oldlinedude
    @oldlinedude Жыл бұрын

    Camping is good mostly anytime from around May 15 thru October. If you like fishing, early spring is best or October is good for fly fishing. I try to avoid camping during holidays because a lot of people camp then and it can be difficult to find a good spot away from other campers.

    Thanks Michael for your long service in the electric industry! I know you saw a lot in your day! I’m a power company distribution lineman. I’m in IBEW local 457. I’m getting near the end of my career though with 35 years of service. Posting really cool old video of the way men were men is very cool. I took pictures & thought that was cool? Your from the generation of iron men & wooden ships. I got to do my apprenticeship with folks like you years ago. Nothing seemed to faze them? Long hours under adverse condition & away from families. I took it for granted then. Now I fondly remember them after they are now all gone.

    @@MattMorris481 I agree the technology has really advanced in the last 50 years. When I first started they weren't using helicopters to set poles in the mountains where you couldn't get trucks, we actually used a team of horses to drag the poles in and set them. @@oldlinedude If you would love to go back then I have to tell you about a very similar but not so famous fully intact honest to gosh ghost town population zero That I found quite literally by total accident it was set back aways from the main highway that went from Rapid City to Keystone on the left side. I stopped on the way up to Mt. Rushmore to help a broken down motorist (I can only assume that we were nicer to each other before cell phones and the internet redefined how we interact with each other as I have been rescued a few times myself while the 3 years stationed at Ellsworth in SD no questions asked pretty much the first car that would pass stoped and helped and happy to do it.) Anyways. While helping a lady change a flat tire it must have been the exact right time of the year to see down in the valley through the trees after the leaves fell I caught a glimpse of what I thought was a shed of some type upon further snooping it was a entire dirt street with vacant builds on each side I have to tell you it was like going back in time sans people one of the buildings was obviously a old 1 room school house in which a partial alphabet lesson was still visible and the little desks and chairs each building had looked as if all the town just stoped what they were doing and left. There were such things as old steamer trunks cast iron skillets empty old liquor bottles and so on I'm happy I got to explore it but it got a bit scary as it was getting dark out there were no roads leading in or out and only accessable on foot that is probably the best reason that it was still so complete I'm by no means an antique Expert but I know from putzing around Rapid in the used/ antique furniture store the same exact kind of items were selling for pretty high prices even if you could bargain with the owner and just pay half price that was still kind of exspensive.
